Very nice,Beam,safely into monarchy and almost ready to go on the offensive.
I suggest building a slew of Inkies,they only cost 10 shields,to free up our swords. Objective #1..Elephantine to deny the Gyppos iron. #2....drive south,take the furs and if possible expand south. Build F.P. in Lagash or Kish,I think it makes no never no mind where it is built in conquests. Build some temples. Play as many turns as you wish,P.P. and then bugger off to darkest South America.[lol] I'd also build some cats but that seems to be too defensive for our agressive Generals. Byz and France have no iron,as yet and Beam says that Ragnar is also lacking iron. |

I'm now in Mayhong Son, northwest of Thailand at the border with Birma. It is about 35 degrees with a nice burning sun! Sweat is dripping from almost every part of my body, but it is worth it. I'm going to jump in the swimming pool soon. I've just visited the long neck tribe where the women wear a collar or something like that to strech the neck. I'll post a picture when I get back to Holland. Tomorrow I fly back to Chiang Mai for another 2 hour massage :D. I'll try to make a nice picture for you Tarly :) Next I take the train back to Bangkok and travel futher south to spend 2 days at the beach. After that I fly back to Holland. The last two weeks were very exciting and I've seen lots of things, like small temples, medium temples, medium-large temples, large temples... All of them have nice buddha statues. I played 20 turns to get the game moving.
As there is so much action,I've condensed the turns to 7.7.6.Early.Middle.Late. Basically I don't think that I did very well.It will need a great general to pull us out of the clag.I think that we have the troops to attack the AI,now. Early.turns 1 to 7. I tried to get a sod together to attack south,the Celts,but the AI started to come at me from all points of the compass. I built trebuchets and finally walled our most vulnerable cities. Hardly any infrastructure was built,I may have been over cautious. Stats:- Total losses 2 swords. AI losses 6 archers 1 spear 3 warriors 1 horse 1 sword. 12 to 2. trebuchet hits,1 misses 0. Turns 8 to 14. Our losses 5 swords + 1 archer. I lost 3 swords on the trot trying to defeat 1 num merc. AI losses: 4 archers 9 warriors 2 swords 1 num merc 1 horse 1 spear. treb hits 8 misses 0. total losses 6 to 18. very dodgy[help] Turns 15 to 20. Our losses:- 2 swords. AI losses:- 10 archers 4 spear 3 Gallic swords 1 warrior 1 sword 1 horse 1 num merc. trebuchet:- hits 21 misses 6. Total:- 21 to 2. As you say, the main issue is fighting on 2 (or more) fronts. Imo reducing / defeating the Celts will solve a lot because the front will be mainly W to N then. With their Gaelics they are also the fiercest of opponents atm.

I also think we need one or two gallies to explore more of the continent, we've met all but one Civ so no worries there. Our golden age will end soon. We are paying a lot of gold per turn on unit maintenance. I think that when the GA ends our economy will crash! We need more cities fast, therefor I think grabbing the furs site from the Celts is a priority. We have enough units down there to do the job. Don't forget to build a road to the furs. Banzai! |
What would really make all the difference would be an army.We're at 210 A.D. with plenty of combat but no M.G.L.We're bound to get one soon and my advice would be to form a sword army and build the heroic epic.Once the G.L's start coming we can form several armies and attack/pillage our neighbours.The R.N.G has been against us in giving M.G.L's.Pillaging is the name of the game but untill we get the wherewithall,we're stuffed.

Couldn't agree more Banzai. I just managed to destroy Gergovia and a settler can build a new city on the furs soon.
Not only is unit maintenance sky-high, it is maintenance for weak units. We should have used our income from the GA for upgrades. I am stuck now with loads of EW and Swordies and about +4gpt at 10.0.0. Can't say I'm enjoying it atm. |

Sorry for that! Because of the golden age I didn't realise we were paying so much gold on unit costs and used our income to keep the science high. I noticed it in turn 7 or 8 and that was too late to make any significant changes (besides disbanding lots of troops - which I did not do). I hope that with a city at the furs we do not need so many units for military police so we can send a large force to our enemies. When on the offensive we will lose more troops, but with a force like this we will be able to land quite a punch.. Hopefully you can enjoy the combat! Banzai! |

Be sure I've done everything to get a MGL Tarly.
The main factors hindering us is the shitty terrain requiring many many workers to improve a tile and the central position on the map with civs on all sides. The Civ itself isn't a real issue imo, we have a tech lead and therefore should be able to produce superior units easily and early. Right now I can't upgrade however because of the cash position. As a matter of fact I'm almost happy losing a cheap unit cause it means less gpt.:( Nevertheless, here is the sav at it's current state. Right time to have some discussion how to move on. Here is the map: http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/up...464_de map.jpg 106.07KB It looks like we are a bit short on offensive millitary units at the northern front [crazyeye] The elite archer at Sumer is about to die to the NuMerc unless we can cover him or kill the NuMerc. We do have a sword in Ur, but we will probably lose both units if we attack. Move at least the med inf at Isin straight north to assist at the front. On the southern front found the city on the spot (north of the ruins) and use the two celtic slaves to build a road north to connect the city. All units in the area should enter the new city and heal. We have only one pike down there, but Bad-tibira at the west has some enkidu available. We should send at least one to defend the new city. I think we need another pike to defend our offensive southern forces before attacking the eastern Celtic city Burdigxxxx The new city and the marketplaces due to finish will greatly increase our income.. i hope ;) Maybe we can do a single scientist research?
