OK you're the scientist....explain this
If that's true then it begs the question why are some children frightened by the sight of a clown? They don't seem as afraid of the man getting shot out of a cannon.

Melifluous 06-06-2005 20:20

Cannons are cool. Cannons rock. They go bang and stuff.

Clowns are just creepy, and don't give me none of that "Western Clowns" are inferior crap, not every kid has seen "It" by Stephen King (although I was more scared by that bloke who used to be in the Waltons).

As with most things impressions are formed when first encountering the object.

Normally cannons are just firing people into nets or shooting glitter about, not blowing large groups of people armed with muskets into fractal red and wibbly shapes.

Whereas clowns look weird and probably smell and stuff.

The clowns in Dumbo when the elephant gets pissed will haunt me to the end of my days...

Melifluous

PS. We do fear the admins, I sacrifice a decent thread idea every night in some vain hope of appeasing them...

Ville 06-06-2005 20:36

I like clowns :) I especially like Mistfit's clown [nya]

I don't erase threads.

That's bad, wouldn't catch me deleting peoples posts or stuff [mischief]

Melifluous

Whomp 06-06-2005 20:53

But what about Dumbo's friends? They were crows. Nobody likes crows.
Don't you think crows are kind of scarier than clowns? The movie "The Birds" had lots of scary crows. Maybe they should've shot a cannon off and stuff. I'll bet that would've scared all the birds away.

In fact these birds were attacking people where akots lives...

Melifluous 06-06-2005 21:04

Only in America huh?

My son is really really scared of owls and cuckoo clocks, maybe there is something to this scary birdy thingy.

Whomp 06-06-2005 21:28

I like the part about the lawyer falling on his face and wounding himself.
Maybe he could sue the company that planted the tree that the little chick fell out of for faulty limbs.

I'm with your son. Why are cuckoo clocks cool? I think they're noisy, annoying and scary.

Crows (ravens) are the most intelligent birds. They are probably even more intelligent than cats. You have to be smart to survive in this harsh world.

Buy him a parrot. Little or large and let him feed the bird and clean the cage. This would make cuckoo clocks funny. [evil]

MUUWAAAAA, FEAR US!
If you could have adjusted my postcount to 1500, I would not have had to spam that much today.

Shit, a complicated sentence it was. @Meli: Did I make it right?

Another question. Do I need to make it to 1500 or have to get to 1501? And does posting a thread count as posting a post? If it does, it is unfair since posting a thread is a big deal and posting a post is just ... posting a post.

Perfect English.

If need I had, to post that bad, your advice I would seek.
This post I've seen, upon this screen, is the best I've seen this week.

Why are you limiting it to just Houstonians akots?
Speaking of Houston isn't rodeo coming soon? Weee whooo! Now that I think of it....rodeos have lots of clowns. Those clowns are always being chased by buckin' broncos and angry bulls.

akots 06-06-2005 21:59

Rodeo is in March here. Now all cows are mad hidden in air-conditioned stables. It is 96F here and 85% humidity. The milk would get sour in a minute and their meat will rot on a living animal in such weather.

Rodeo clowns are actually sometimes better in chasing the bulls than the actual riders. Or so it seemed to me while I watched this rodeo last year.

A child always gets a good laught when someone gets his by another object.

Remember Homer Simpson when he sees man hit in the groin by a football.

Nevetheless a child never seems to like when someone gets thansformed. I've seen many cry out when an uncle puts on a whig (sp?) or run away when some one they know grows a beard.

akots 06-06-2005 22:05

I'm 15 posts away from col and 17 away from Matrix. Almost there. Just a little bit more.

barbu1977 06-06-2005 22:11

I shaved mine 1 year ago. I had one for about 5 years.

This is where my nick comes from Barbu being "With a Beard" in french (Bearded a word?)

Whomp 06-06-2005 22:21

Woowho!
I'd bet that's about as welcome as a skunk at a lawn party.
Hot and "YouMid" there in H Town, "TakeSis".
Is that about how it sounds akots?

akots 06-06-2005 22:25

I just imagined bearded clown coming out of the hole in a cuckoo clock and spitting cannon balls out of his mouth which have "PSV" engraved on them.

Melifluous 06-06-2005 22:26

Bearded is cool.

Very English.

As in come see the Bearded Lady! More circusicity (not a word), where will it end?

My favourite English/French fuck upidness (also not a word) is the word

Concurrent - English - Being in accordance; harmonious.
I've heard its almost the opposite in French :)

Something like:

"Het an' umid hea in H Toun Tekses"

Tis a swamp, this H Town. A place for alligators and crocodiles, not for human beings to live.

Melifluous 06-06-2005 22:36

So, we have cuckoophobia, clownophobia, cannonophobia and moderatorophobia in one single scene then. The ultimate culmination is deconvolution, death, and ascension of all participants. Including cannon with a bearded balls ...

Whomp 06-06-2005 22:40

Beards seem ok. Moustaches? The Tom Selleck look sucks!

akots 06-06-2005 22:46

He's an OK guy. Bet few kids will run away from that dude.

Whomp 06-06-2005 22:48

See what I mean? What's he trying to hide?

barbu1977 06-06-2005 22:52

When I look at older photos of me, you wonder if it is realy OK.

It is certainly less work in the morning.

Mustache, I don't like because you still have to shave regularly.

Mel--When French people swear do they say pardon my English?

Melifluous 06-06-2005 23:04

I dunno - They would say it in French surely

I aint French - Ask Barbu he's Canadien...

I know what you mean though, it's an odd thing that people here say.

After swearing an Englishperson may say "Ooops, pardon my French" implying that they didn't say a rude word but a foreign word.

I didn't say that we made much sense.

Melifluous
Certainly the opposite.
There are a couple like that that you don't like when you learn the language like Black and Blanc (white)

What I'm still getting mixed up when you spell is "J" (english) is pronouced the same way as "G" in french and "J" pronouced in french is close as "G" in english.[crazyeye]

barbu1977 06-06-2005 23:16

I heard some people do that, but it is not widely used. I suspect it is done to mimic the english version of it. (I find those poeple less funny now :(, I tough they invented it)

What is often used here before using english words in frech speech would be "like they would say in China" meaning that that word is clearly not to be used in that sentence, but some of those english words are mutch easier to put in a sentence than the french equivalent.

Mistfit 06-06-2005 23:17

I won't pretend to understand this thread I'll just mention that I'm kinda partial to Clowns.

[shudder] [plead] I'll add'em in the queue.

barbu1977 06-06-2005 23:21

I'm going to spam the spam thread with non spam subject:D

Meli you have the save right? You should have it since yesterday.

Melifluous 06-06-2005 23:24

Oh and [scared] ...

Yes I have the save.

Been a funny day. Wife been off to hospital for emergency blood tests after a rather worrying rash, headache and stiff neck [:|]

I rushed home from work and not really playing games today.

I'll get to it later maybe, or might have to wait for tomorrow.
