View Full Version : Anyone got a no-cd patch for PTW 1.21f?
I have had enough of waiting for the 1.21f non-US patches. :(
If anyone has a crack for PTW 1.21 so I can install the US version on my UK PTW, please post here.
I dont trust the cracks that I have seen - an internet aware program like ptw is a bit dangerous to install imo.
Don't you run a firewall col?
Zone Alarm works fine for me, I have disabled PTW's ability to access the internet altogether, especially since it trys to act as a server...

Zone Alarm is a pain in the butt, but i figured out my parents password to it so i can change the stuff around and be able to play.
Yeah - I do run a firewall - Norton - I guess I should block ptw access but ptw crashes often enough when I try to host a pbem game as it is.......

Further to my above post.
I HAVE downloaded the deviance no-cd .exe and installed both the Patch and overwritten it with this exe.
It works on my machine.
Currently testing PBEM level bugs and infinite turn reload exploits in PBEM games.
More news on my forum.

This is good to hear, hopefully we can all upgrade soon.
I'm still running the 1.14 cracked version. I love it because now I don;t have to change CD's between PTW and vanilla :)

Hi all. Does this mean that the Americans are using 1.14 for the PBEM's?
I am running both 1.14f and 1.21f side by side. :D
You shouldn't need to downgrade, I will post how to do it (very simple) if people would like.

1) Make a copy of your CIV3PTW folder, call it CIV3PTW-114. You CIV3PTW114 folder should be in the CivIII install folder, along with CIV3PTW.
2) Update using the 1.21US patch.
3) Make a backup of your 'Civilization3X.exe' file from the CIV3PTW directory, copy over it with the contents of this zip file (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/utils/ptw-121.zip). (Thnaks to Mel for finding this!)
That's it! The Civilization3X.exe in CIV3PTW is now a cracked version of 1.21f, the Civilization3X.exe from CIV3PTW-114 is your normal copy of version 1.14f.
Note that each version will have it's own save directory, so your games won't get mixed up either. :)
Discalimer This apparently hasn't worked 100% for everyone, please make sure you are prepared to reinstall PTW from scratch if it all goes wrong.

Yep, someone on CFC posted how to do it.
I was very dubious so I didn't do it for ages. When people reported they had been using it without problems I decided to give it a go. ;)

They just reported in the Firaxis chat that the 1.21f European patches are going in to testing on Monday.

They also said that they were starting on a new patch, so nice to know that they realise they didnt fix everything in one patch I dont think...

If you use a firewall there is no reason to let PTW have internet access at all.

I bought both Civ3 and PTW at the highest price, I fully respect software writers and never "crack", my brother and my wife are both musicians/producers who live from "ROYALTIES" : at the moment people copying CDs or getting it from Kazaa is killing their job. People tend to forget about the small artists getting ripped as the "stars" (who don't really need royalties") are just the tip fo the iceberg...
Anyway, what I downloaded was a crack to a patch that is FREE anyway !!!!!!!! So I don't consider it illegal at all !
Am I right or am I ?

I think you are right skyfish.
My CD drive sounds like a jumbo jet taking of when it winds up. So the no cd crack is bliss for me.

Skyfish is correct. This discussion heated up only because firaxis refuses to back European players. This is no warez discussion.
Yeah, I support games companies that I like with cold hard cash.
The crack was required to get my paid for version of PTW running on the latest patch.

I installed the patch succesfully. Still a bit surprised it is much smaller then the firaxis one...
Can anyone explain why the fuck there is a difference between the uk and the us version?

I think is cos of the copy protection...which is why the US 1.21 patch works with the UK version with the no-cd crack.
