This is the spoiler for Aggie vs Killer. No Killers allowed in here [}:)]

ERIKK

he he Kill 'm all!

Lt. Killer M
21-03-2003, 17:21
Aggie: could you ask someone to set it up? We are agreed on everything IIRC, I want to be...... say: Japan?

Aggie

Well, we played the first 11 turns today. I've got a nice starting position and go for the usual 'Pottery'->granary sequence.

Here's my start:

Aggie

We are at turn 65 and I still didn't meet any other civ :(. Killer knows at least two: the Arabia and Russia. He's playing with matches, looking at the open thread. I am building as much as I can with the tech at max. I still appear to be average in technology. Which isn't bad, being alone as I am...

Meli: next time...no barbarians :(

anarres
26-03-2003, 22:36
Ouch. That's a fair way in and no contacts.

Can we have a minimap please?

Aggie

My world at turn 65. No contacts... not good..

Boy this took long! 75 turns before I made first contact. I have the Kreans as neighbours. Not bad. The Koreans got me communications with the Greeks and Chinese as well. Also not bad. Civilized continent I live on! I managed to get horseback riding, mysticism and warrior code. I'm still backward. But a lot of room to expand. And two commercial civs on my continent. Good for trade.

Turn 101.

The Chinese, Koreans and Greeks got me on tech parity. Killer says that he will finish TGL in 5 turns. So I guess I have to keep up using force.

I just got map making and I will build a galley to discover the rest of the world. I hope that I'm faster than Killer.

I'm not doing bad and just have to keep up until the Sipahi [}:)]

Aggie

Turn 101:

I'm not short on resources!
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/aggiekiller100resources.JPG

Aggie
04-04-2003, 07:40
Turn 112:

It's just unbelievable. Killer is constantly at war and I'm still expanding. Besides that I built my first galley and started exploring. I know that if and when I meet the other continents, Killer will get more techs for free. But prices will drop for me also. And trading communication also helps my income.

I suspect that my continent is ahead in tech slightly, with peace all around and scientific civs like Greece and Korea.

I'm definatelly not going to research as long as Killer has benefit from TGL...

ERIKK
04-04-2003, 08:00
If you stop researching you will fall behind. I would only research techs that the Ai's already have (the cheap ones)...

Did Killer got the GL from a leader?

Aggie
04-04-2003, 08:19
No, Killer got it with a pre-build. I'm glad that he warned me six turns before he finished it, because I was building it too. Ábout the research: you could be right about that. I naturally want to get Military Tradition ASAP, but Killer will profit from my research. That's a difficult situation I'm in...

Aggie
04-04-2003, 16:53
Turn 115: 290BC. I jumped into the middle ages. My free tech is Monotheism. Korea has Feudalism!

Aggie
08-04-2003, 21:50
Turn 130: Here's my suicide galley attempting to reach Killer's homeland...

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/agkisuicide.JPG

Aggie
08-04-2003, 22:16
Turn 131:

Yes, I made contact with the Russians. It strange that I meet that one civ that almost got killed by Killer. I make a lote of money getting their WM and selling it to the Koreans, Greeks and Chinese on my continent.

This is our world:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/agki131_map.JPG

This is the histograph:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/agki131histograph.JPG

I also acquire the tech Republic, so:
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/agki131anarchy.JPG

Aggie
08-04-2003, 22:23
Turn 132:

I decided to sell all the contacts, because I'm afraid that Killer otherwise would beat me with his own suicide galley.

I got about 1200 gold and feudalism for it. Killer gets Philosophy, Republic, Monotheism and Feudalism for it with his Great Library.

He would have gotten them anyway.

Aggie
12-04-2003, 08:13
Turn 163: My military is average compared to Korea. I'm weak vs Greece, but they are on the other side of the continent. They defend three corrupt cities near my border. Two of them were MINE[guns].

Within 20 turns I will have Sipahi. Guess what happens with Greece and Korea then [devil].

There are still good things to mention: I'm the most advanced civ in the world! They only took corrupt cities. I can get leaders now!

Aggie
12-04-2003, 08:30
Turn 164: the battlefield.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads4/Agkibattlefield166.JPG

Aggie
16-04-2003, 08:33
Turn 170: Konya and Sinop are mine again! I've got saltpeter back.

Meanwhile Killer is starting to destroy the Celts on his continent. Combined with me having Sipahi within 12 turns, I predict that we have a 1vs1 within 40 turns. :( I have to, to prevent Killer from getting a domination win.

Aggie
21-04-2003, 18:45
Turn 176
Korean people more and more understand the way of the Ottomans:

Turn 180:
Korea built the Great Lighthouse for me.[evil]. I still have a grudge against them, traitors. [mgun]

And would you believe that I get 30 gpt from Russia? They have money, although they are reduced to two cities by Killer very early in the game[crazyeye]

I made peace with the Greeks 2 turns ago. I get them later...

Aggie
25-04-2003, 14:40
Turn 190: Korea is gone. I have found a good reason for the next war: incense!

Aggie
25-04-2003, 22:07
Turn 197:
It took a while, but I'm confident that I'm strong enough to take out the Chinese. This is what they call a 'Blitzkrieg'. Two cities in one turn:

Aggie
25-04-2003, 23:32
Turn 199:
I enter the industrial age. We are playing 1.21 and my free tech therefore is not Nationalism. I get Medicine. The cheapest of them all. But needed for TeO.

And oh, I razed Beijing. [hammer] I also asked Greece to join me vs the Chinese. My military is weakening a bit and I can use help [coool]
Killer declared war to the Celts.

Aggie
26-04-2003, 13:42
Turn 205:

I discover Steam Power, Killer gets Magnetism. I'm two techs away from TeO and have a pre-build ready :D

I find NO COAL in my entire territory. This is just NOT funny. [cry] However, luckily a Chinese city which name I forgot was easily captured. It has coal and iron! Now, how to get a leader [coool]

WildFire
26-04-2003, 20:45
Nice! Is that city near anywhere good?

Aggie
27-04-2003, 17:40
Turn 208:

Wildfire, it's on the edge of my empire, but a reasonable place if I can move my palace:

My GA is over so we have honest demographics. Not to bad, considering my troubles with Greece and Korea:

I have Electricity in 5! And I'm building railraods with my industrious workers [cool]

I actually will get it in 6...

Killer discovered Steam in the same turn:

52.53KB

I'm worried about him getting domination. He razed Athens to avoid me having Sun Tzu and the Pyramids...

Aggie
27-04-2003, 21:45
Turn 215:

It's getting better. Just compare these demographics with turn 207 [cool]. I'm also rushing libaries to prevent a domination win from Killer. And I'm planning to invade Greece.

Aggie
28-04-2003, 19:47
Turn 220:

Hehe. Killer really didn't expect me building TeO.
He then offered to trade Industrialization. This is the only tech which he is ahead. I think it's important to have it (needed to get those hydro plants working) so I offer medicine and electricity. Good deal for Killer, money wise. So I also want 20 turn peace treaty and his world map.

This gives me the opportunity to:

- Build factories
- take out the Greeks and expand there like crazy
- Get extra shields with Hoover (still 19 turns to go for that...)

ERIKK
28-04-2003, 20:49
2 techs for 1 is a little bit to much IMO!

You could research it yourself and prebuild those factories!

Aggie
28-04-2003, 21:27
ERIKK, maybe you are right. I was greedy.

Aggie
03-05-2003, 12:27
Turn 228:

I just discovered Replaceable Parts. Killer doesn't have it yet.
He made peace with Greece and didn't demand a city for it! My troops also need a little rest and since Killer and I agreed to have 20 turns more peace, I also offer peace to Greece. They give me three remote cities in return. These thre cities are close to my core though.

The Corporation is next: in 5! And my new core hasn't been developed yet. I moved my palace to former Chinese land a few turns ago.

Aggie
05-05-2003, 17:43
Turn 232:

I'm nr one in population, so Killer won't get domination soon. Also I will have Corporation in one, while Killer still doesn't have Rep Parts, Atomic Theory and Electronics.

Aggie
09-05-2003, 11:21
Turn 240:

Killer offered furs for gems. I don't know what he wants with it,
but this is perfect for me!

It means 20 turns more peace. In that time I will:

- crush the Greeks
- Occupy all terrain on my continent
- Discover radio
- Build radar towers to prevent Killer from easily capture my land

My aim is to win the space race. I'm three techs in front: Atomic Theory, Electronics and Refining. I don't know what Killer has over me. He's a democracy while I am republic.

anarres
09-05-2003, 14:16
Going for the space race sounds like a good idea. All you need is a decent amount of infantry to defend, and your free modern age tech will really put the pressure on Killer. :)

Aggie
09-05-2003, 15:15
That's exactly the plan :)

Aggie
09-05-2003, 19:18
Turn 242: I know that I have to act quickly to achieve my goal and occupy all territory of my continent. I waited 10 turns, but with 20 Sipahi I feel confident. I declare war to Greece and raze/capture 5 cities.

The last three cities shouldn't be a big problem. I'm more worried about a possible Japanese city to the west of Greece. Killer didn't settle yet. Why? I surely knows that he must invade me to win. [confused] I know that he can't do it until turn 260, but at least he should have gotten a bridgehead by now. He's not to late, but will be in 10 turns.

Greece, or what's left of it:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/200359191829_AK242mapgreece.jpg
56.16*KB

Aggie
09-05-2003, 19:24
Question: should I revolt to democracy or should I stay a republic. Faster workers are nice, but do I miss other benefits? I'm worried that I have to revolt back when at war with Killer.

anarres
09-05-2003, 19:49
Remember that WW between human players is significantly reduced if not removed completely.

I would worry more about losing 7 or 8 turns of science research, although reduced corruption may make up for this. [hmm]

Aggie
12-05-2003, 17:39
Turn 243:

Part one of my mission is completed. I destroyed the Greeks in two turns [evil]:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/2003512173633_AK242greeks.jpg
37.02KB

Part two is in progress (occupy all land on my own continent). Seven settler are one turn from completion.

I'm a bit worried that Killer can gain on me in the tech race. I am discovering techs before him, making research for him cheaper. He now is only two techs behind, instead of three.

anarres
12-05-2003, 17:58
Maybe you should consider what buildings/units are required for tech research and be carful not to build things you don't need.

Aggie
12-05-2003, 18:10
So I should build libraries, marketplaces, banks, stock exchanges, universities, Wall Street. Everything to make money and up the tech speed. Right?

anarres
12-05-2003, 20:38
I would hope you have at least built libraries and marketplaces in every city by now. [:o]

Banks and uni's are important too, I would expect you to need these in all non-corrupt cities.

Personally, if tech is what I am after and my science is over 50% I build libs/uni's/research labs if possible before building the money bringers.

Don't forget that you should have 100% of tiles improved too. Crank out the workers form your floodplain cities or wherever is most appropriate. I remember from your game with ERIKK that his land was almost 100% terraformed and yours wasn't. You have to maximise your core cities as quickly as possible too. It makes sense to pump lots of workers from semi-corrupt cities < 6 with granaries, and when your land transformation is nearing completion to add them to your core cities. You get pop growth for 10 food then, instead of 30. ;)

Aggie
12-05-2003, 21:20
I have markets and libaries in almost all my 'old' core cities, but I moved my core not so long ago :) Thanks for the tips!

Aggie
13-05-2003, 17:24
Turn 246:

More income:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/2003513172024_AK246wallstreet.jpg
54.48KB

These demographics make me very happy:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/2003513171949_AK246demo.jpg
22.48KB

However, Killer can easily steal techs and get level in science. Considering that, I think that I shouldn't be so happy about the prospect of a Space Race.

Aggie
13-05-2003, 17:32
We still didn't build this one:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/2003513173145_AK246noBach.jpg
13.61KB

Aggie
14-05-2003, 08:16
Turn 247:

We agreed to have peace until 267. This is fine with me, because I am ahead in almost every area and still ahve to build up my new core fully.

I discovered Radio and now I'm researching Sanitation (hospitals).

However, Killer is stealing all my techs and gets them very cheap. Even if you consider that he will fail once in a while. He stopped research I think. I seriously think about stopping the research myself and use the money for improvements and military.

Is that a good idea? Or should I keep on researching at max, not allowing me to rush-build?

ERIKK
14-05-2003, 08:34
If you want to launch that spaceship you will need research... Maybe you can halve the science rate and confuse him.... Maybe he will try to steal while there is nothing to steal! ;)

Aggie
03-06-2003, 17:35
Turn 252:

I discovered Sanitation and I'm rushing hospitals in my core. Next tech (steel) will be researched at a slower rate :)

PS. With my Palace built as a cover (not to be seen on F7) I will grab Bach within two turns. I hope that Killer forgot about it, allowing me to do with less luxuries from Killer and less war weariness when it's getting serious.

Aggie
05-06-2003, 20:30
Turn 256:

I almost control all land on my own continent after rushing a few libraries. First the first time in the game, I have more land than Killer [band]:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/200365203026_AK256demograph.jpg
28.19KB

Aggie
08-06-2003, 10:01
Turn 257:

Killer has Nationalism!

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/20036894832_AKnationalism.jpg
11.06*KB

I've got to have this tech. It will allow me to draft citizens while I keep on building up my empire for a space race victory.

Good thing that I stopped research a few turns ago. Now I have the 1965 gold that is needed for a careful steal.

After that I draft 35 riflemen. I will keep on drafting until the military advisor says that I'm average with Killer.

I decide to investigate another one of Killer's city to check if he's researching still. I guess he still is (30%), but look at the state of his terrain:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/20036895556_AKkillercapital.jpg
107.48*KB

This is my capital, as a comparison:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/aggie/20036810045_AKmycapital.jpg
129.81*KB

Since he still is researching, I decide to keep mine at 0%. I bet he is researching espionage. I'm ahead in refining and sanitation. Still 7 turns to go in our peace deal...

Aggie
09-06-2003, 09:09
Turn 262:

I drafted about 100 infantry and now Killer only has an average military :). I think that he changd his plans when he saw that. We have 20 turns more peace and I started research again.

Killer tells me that his tech steal attempt failed. Only fair of him to tell, because I wouldn't be told: another bug in PBEM. I still had sanitation over him, so it's not that he was tricked by my research pause.

I will use the next 20 turns to further build up my empire and turn it into a difficult-to-conquer bastion. I guess we have to wait for marine before one of us can attack. And I will just sit and wait for Killer. [sleep]

Aggie
09-06-2003, 23:47
Turn 263:

I tried to steal a tech from Killer, but it failed. Why: well for the first time ever I saw the explanation that the opponent didn't have any. I did cost me 2000 gold to find out :(

However, otherwise things are looking very good. I have 20 more turns to build and I will use that to make it next to impossible for killer to conquer me. I hope. And then we have to wait a looooooong time for the decision. I think that I will be able to beat him in the space race. And also, if we reach that stage, I will probably be the first to build nucleair weapons [evil] . I plan to have about 10 icbm's before killer has one.

Aggie
14-06-2003, 18:23
Turn 275: We had a couple of quiet turns. A lot of MM-ing.

In this turn I managed to steal Espionage from Killer for 1450 gold. [coool]

Meanwhile I am certain that he stole Steel from me. I still have Combustion over him.

Aggie
14-06-2003, 19:28
Turn 277: I discover Mass Production. Killer now trails two techs: combustion and mass production. Tanks in 5 turns!
