Turn 2:

I guessed that I had to go east with my second settler, because I was on the western edge of the map. Did I guess wrong?

You can put it 2 tiles west on berlin on that hill... :(
...or move him NE.

Turn 5:

I moved south and found fresh water and a cow. Guess I'll be doing a RCP on 3 and 3.5

RCP is nice except if you have to jump your palace in the early game :D

Aggie
18-08-2003, 14:01
Why should I jump the beautifully located palace? I see great possibilities for a (tight) first ring and also a decent number of second ring cities...

Aggie

Turn 91:

I'm taking a gamble in this game. Skyfish made a great map, but the best spots to settle are actually not near the palace, but more to the south. Still I didn't decide to palace-jump. Instead I created two rings, one around Berlin and one around Frankfurt. After building a courthouse there I started the FP just now. This is my territory:

This is the world is I know it:

I sent a galley out to find the other continent. But India probably will have more luck, with the Great Lighthouse.

I feel that my position is great. And once I have currency, money will be no problem at all :)

I'm going to hook up the horses in two turns. My first war probably will be about the French bordertown Chartres and the Ottoman cities that will be placed near my borders very soon. War is unavoidable, since the continents known to me are getting full.

Skyfish

Very good job on building those cheap harbours ! they are real powerful for militaristic civs.
Too bad you did not follow the Map Makers' hidden advice though it would have benefited you more ;)

Any AI wars at all in this game ? [groucho]

Aggie
28-08-2003, 14:48
You'd expect AI wars. But I haven't seen any fighting near my borders. I still don't have embassies with everyone. But I don't trust Rome. I know that they are after me!

EDIT: Like I say, I took a gamble. But when FP is ready, Frankfurt will be a powerhouse!

Turn 92:

Jack knows the world [aargh]. And all ancient techs except currency. He also went into anarchy.

But.... I have two spices to trade, giving me everything but Republic and Construction. This is the world map:

Turn 96:

Currency is known. A couple of leaderheads have changed, so they are in the Middle Ages. Time to start trading:

France : I give world map, incense, 10 gpt, 25 gold for Currency
India : I give Currency, 13 gpt, 16 gold for Construction and Spices

I get Engineering as my free tech.

France : Eningeering gives me Republic, world map, 28 gpt, 121 gold
Rome : Engineering gives me Monarchy, 11 gpt, 3 gold
Persia : I give Engineering, 150 gold and wm gives for Monotheism
Otto's : I give Monotheism, world map, 17 gpt, 18 gold for Feudalism

Needles to say that I'm a tech leader at the moment [hammer]

I go into anarchy and draw 5 turns before I am a Republic.

Skyfish
29-08-2003, 07:55
Nice trading round but I would not spend so much for Monarchy...not very important anyway...
[goodjob]

Aggie

True, now that I read it again I wonder why I did it [confused]

I bought Education from the Persians. The Persians need to grow, they are Jack neighbour :). Next goal is to conquer an Indian enclave, developthe new core and get banks.

Turn125:
[aargh] Why can't I force India to leave? They are tresspassing with a clear prupose of stealing a city [eek]

EDIT: I defended the city with a couple of horses, thinking the India now would retreat. I was wrong! They declare war and the warrior manages to kill a horse. Oh well, I was waiting for this and now I can take one of their towns :)

Aggie

Turn 131:

I buy banking for 55 gpt and then can trade:
- Printing Press
- Invention
- Gunpowder
- Chemistry (for tech and 100 gold with the Ottomans. Maybe my next 'victim', since I fear Sipahi).

The AI mostly have Metallurgy. I hope to get into the IA with the first of the AI, to profit from my free tech.

India still doesn't want peace :(. Jack might be able to profit from banking now as well, since I couldn't close the 2fer1, 3fer1 possibility.

Turn 132:

Jack trades me Astronomy for Chemistry.

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Aggie/2003920240_AgJM136persiawar.jpg
17.25*KB

Persia wants 19 gold. I refuse. Persia declares war. My income jumps from 40 gpt to 110 gpt [crazyeye].

I now can buy Metallurgy for 65 gpt from France.
France and Greece know military Tradition already :( And no-one can buy Metallurgy :(

Turn 133:

India and Germany make peace for Military Tradition, in return for 55 gpt. I still make a nice sum and will have banks soon. Now to build up those cavs :)

Aggie
04-09-2003, 17:37
Turn 150:

The AI is Industrial. According to Jack also Persia and Ottomans, the other two scientific civs. When I get the turn back, I can see that Jack at least does not have Nationalism.

I have to switch a lot of tiles to commerce, but I am able to increase my income from 75 to 110 gpt. This allows me to do the following deal:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Aggie/200394173046_AgJM150industrial.jpg
16.48KB

I get Medicine for free and I'm the only one :D. Cheap tech, but still I'm the only one.

Trade follows:

-France gives me 220 gold and 105 gpt for Medicine
-The Ottomans give me 1890 gold for Medicine
-India gives me 76 gpt and 100 gold for Medicine
-Greece gives me Steam Power for 181 gpt, 1550 gold and Medicine
-France gives me 130 gpt for Steam
-The Ottomans give me 2090 gold for Steam

I now make 184 gpt and have 2085 gold in cash :D.

Rome and India don't have an extra tech (both are broke), just like Jack. This makes it difficult for him to trade.

Turn 151:

A couple of deals end and now I make 255 gpt. This will increase in the next turns to 300 gpt at least. This is all before rails. I do have two coal sources, not hooked up yet. Jack also has coal, although he doesn't know that yet.

The world is at peace, but the AI is making MPP's.

ERIKK

Very good trading aggie!

anarres
04-09-2003, 18:57
That is an amazing amount of cash to get our of the AI at this stage! [eek]

Aggie
04-09-2003, 19:03
It is indeed amazing. The Ottomans and Greeks together had 12000 gold in cash. I was at first a bit dissapointed with Medicine as free tech, but now I'm only two techs from Scientific Method! This game is really fast paced too, because we are just at turn 150.

Good thing: stealing is twice as expensive and at this moment an immediate steal already costs 2500 gold.

I decided to leave the AI alone for a while. My first real war may start when I get panzers. Jack surely has a couple of conquistadors, but does het really have the heart to attack the leaders of the world, the Persians?

Turn 153:

I now make 393 gpt without rails (no science, lone scientist on sanitation). This is largely my own income. I pay about the same sum of gpt as I receive.

ERIKK
04-09-2003, 20:56
I think panzers will rock!

Aggie
05-09-2003, 07:50
We share a common foe in the same timeframe with the same civ :D Let's kick some ass ERIKK [hammer] ;)

Aggie
08-09-2003, 23:15
Turn 180:

We obviously both waited for the AI to discover Scientific Method and that took quite some time! But to my big surprise, when we get it, Jack isn't prepared and can't build ToE [eek] :
http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Aggie/200398231048_AJ3180toe.jpg
44*KB

I trade Atomic Theory around and get: 7000 gold, 430 gpt, Refining, Replaceable Parts, Nationalism, Communism, Espionage. [cry]...I'm so happy.

I decide not to trade Electronics, however I can get a good sum from the Ottomans. Hoover will be ready in 13, we'll see if I get it, maybe a cascade will kill the pre-builds from the AI.

Jack may want to steal, but with double prices a careful steal costs 5000 gold :D. Still he could snatch Hoover...but that's something I have to accept, because two pre-builds weren't really possible.

I started to research Radio, due in 12 at -25 gpt at max.

Jack wants to attack the strongest power in the world: Persia. He may trigger their GA!

I'm seriously thinking about a UN victory. My plan will be to get a strong defense and beeline to panzers. Then I will probably attack a lonely unit from a far away civ (for a GA) and get MA's vs them. Panzers are not very far from the UN wonder and with my free tech I just may get it right in time :D

However, I may actually like my panzers so much that I want to use them properly :D

Aggie
10-09-2003, 14:13
Turn 183: The Ottomans and Greeks have Steel. No-one has Electronics. Jack doesn't have Atomic Theory and Refining. Other good news is that Universal Suffrage was built, so the cascade towards Hoover is gone. I still have 8 turns for Hoover and 9 for Radio (100% research and making +80 gpt). I probably will get them both :D. Panzers may be around in 15 turns :D

Aggie
13-09-2003, 01:42
Turn 188:

Three turns from Radio and 5 from Hoover I decide to sell Electronics. It nets me:

- another 3082 gold, 105 gpt and Steel from the Ottomans.
- Combustion and 15 gpt from the Persians.

Now I'm 3 turns from Radio (and a sure new cashcow) and two techs from Panzers. When no-one gets a leader, I will get Hoover.

Jack is at war with the Persians and must be in a GA. He didn't gain any territroy on the Persians yet, but they also might have entered the GA.

Aggie
14-09-2003, 15:30
Turn 191:

I discover Radio [party].

Trading gives me:
- Mass Production, 224 gpt and 2292 gold from the Ottomans
- 226 gpt and 90 gold from the Persians
- Ivory, 97 gpt and 90 gold from the Greeks
- 90 gpt from the Romans

This is a detail from the F1-screen [hammer]:

Motorized transport is in 8. I hope that the Ottomans first research flight, because THEN turn 199 willbe a biggie with three strong scientific civs. We will then enter the Modern Age :D

Turn 192:

I now have Hoover and Wall Street. Jack still doesn't know Steels and Electronics. I wonder if he knows how far behind he is...

He managed to take a town from Persia. He may get stronger and become the first civ in size. Then HE will be against me in the UN vote.

Turn 193:

France and India pay me a total of 250 gpt for Radio. Now everyone has it but Jack. He did acquire Steel and Electronics last turn. My income at 90% science is 1290 gpt. I can obviously coop when I find out that the Otto's research Mot. Transport first, but it would be awesome when they don't. Jack got another town from Persia.

Turn 195:

The Ottomans have Mot. Transport. My research is not fast enough [sad]. I buy it for 240 gpt. Then I see that Osman didn't trade it yet [mwaha].

So:
- The Greeks pay me 144 gpt and 84 gold
- The Persians pay me 64 gpt and 140 gold. Jack will have a bit more difficult time now :)

World Map:

Turn 196 (800 AD!!):

Persia and the Ottomans are Modern! So I buy flight from Persia for 4700 gold. I get Fission for free [dance]:

- I sell the Greeks flight for 2 gpt and they get Computers :D
- I buy these computers for fission and 32 gpt
- Persia buys the computers for 4720 gold (my gold) and 276 gpt. Persia now has tanks and Mech Inf vs Jack.

Next I make the Indians angry by failing spy exposure:

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Aggie/200391423423_AJ196Indiawar.jpg
15.96*KB

The Indians attack me in my border and now also are at war with the Ottomans and Greece :D

Next turn is my GA. I set the research from palace to SETI, only to swap it the turn I finish it...to the UN.

Turn 197:

I attack an Indian warrior and enter the GA. Frankfurt has 131 shields per turn and UN will be in 4! I set up the world except Persia and Jack vs India to prevent a sneak attack.

ERIKK
15-09-2003, 06:33
Jack is dead!

Aggie
15-09-2003, 07:43
Turn 200:

Jack entered the modern age, but doesn't have a modern tech yet. My UN is ready in 1. I decided to not get alliances vs the Ottomans. Firstly because they are my next-door neighbour. Secondly because it would hurt my rep and thirdly: I don't think that Jack will do nothing in his last turn before UN. I'm not sure whether I will win this vote, but every result will be OK. Least preferable is an undecided, since I lead the histograph and a UN loss would also mean a win.

Grille
15-09-2003, 08:05
Wow! Modern times in 800ad and all this amazing deals! :)

On estimation, who'll be the other UN candidate (if it's just one)?

What happens if the ai (possibly Persia) wins the vote (I guess Jack wouldn't vote for you :D)?

Aggie
15-09-2003, 08:15
The AI candidate would have been Persia, but Jack took two cities. Looking at the powergraph my guess now is the Ottomans. I will win the ladder game when Osman gets the vote, having the highest score. But I really like to get a UN victory in 860 AD :D. Osman COULD win it though. He also stayed peaceful. I didn't dare to take the risk to set the world up vs Osman (see above). An undecided would mean that I beeline towards ICBM's [evil].

Aggie
15-09-2003, 16:56
The vote (Jack, Joan and me) was inconclusive. But Jack has no money to help himself when the GA ends. So he concedes.

Grille
15-09-2003, 18:52
Congrats!
[party]

[hmm]
Strange candidates there...
Maybe all human players are automatically chosen, as well as one random ai opponent? (Would probably make some sense in the regard of avoiding *preparation* of UN victory).
Has there already been a UN vote during a MP game?

From the map/stats (sooner) posted, I wouldn't even have expected that Jack was a candidate (that's debatable though), but France [???]?

Aggie
15-09-2003, 18:57
I have heard of other UN votes in PBEM, but I can't recall where and which game. But I remember that both humans are choosen now. I didn't while I was preparing it.

France was the weakest civ by far.

jack merchant
15-09-2003, 18:58
France being in makes no sense at all, and to be fair, neither does me being in (I would have had the UN the turn after Aggie though).
We can only assume that the human players are always in.

Grille
15-09-2003, 19:34
Interesting anyways.[:o]
The UN vote could really be a shot in the foot then, it's not such a no-brainer like in SP at least.
OTOH what if one ai builds the UN, randomly chosen ai candidate as well?
[hmm]
An eight player game would probably lead to a crowd of candidates?

ERIKK
18-09-2003, 21:23
[lol] nice bug!
