The Space Race game!

turn 04: pop a hut get warrior when settling my 2nd city
turn 07: meet ottomans, trade alphabet for marsony + 4 gold
turn 09: pop 2 huts both barbs, both warriors survive from 1 attack!
turn 11: Aggie meets the Persians, he has a stronger enemy but has the hoplite!
turn 13: all barbs are dead now, no casualties on my side
turn 18: ransack a barb camp!
turn 21: pop hut, again barbs, again the warrior survives the attack!
turn 25: Ottomans decide to start building the Oracle :)
turn 27: pop hut: barbs again, they do not attack my warrior!

turn 32: pop hut, gives warrior
turn 34: aggie signals he is being approached by Persian troops...
turn 36: research writing and trade it for 84 gold (all) and Ceremonial Burial
and Warrior Code. They have Mysticism over me. Embassy in Istanbulfor 34 gold,
they are Polite now :) Start researching Pottery and then Map Making. Barb
horse spotted (so fast!)...
turn 37: ransack a barb camp! Persians pass aggie's city.
turn 38: was able to kill the horse before he could reach my worker...
turn 40: lose two warriors on one barb, he ransacks Pusan and steels 18 gold!
turn 41: trade 61g +3gpt for Ottoman worker, they have mathematics.
turn 42: sell Pottery for 71 gold to the Ottomans. Map Making in 35 turns.

turn 69: luanch suicide galley! He sees new coast waters! He sinks..., as I
already lost two arriors against barbs I thought I could be lucky with the galley!
turn 74: luach 3 galleys, two surivive, see red borders! Grrr!! I dont
have horses...
turn 75: two galleys survive, trade contacts first selling contact
to the Ottomans for money + new contact. After that buy the techs that
Otto's not have yet, then trade them to the Otto's and get tech par.
Then new trade round in tactically selling the WM with my and Ottoman
money. I end up with almost all the WM. The Otto's dont have enough
money yet to sell them the my version of the WM... Must be worth
another 100 gold or so... Buy a embassy in Babylon for 38 gold. I
need two more turns to reach the Persian border (visible in the FOW).

turn 76: Meet Persia they have CoL over us (and the rest). They also
have 650 gold. With some mean trading I eventually dry all AI's (who
were all rich) and end up with the WM, all techs and I now have 1295
gold! Aggie is 6 techs behind and I see that the Persians have the
iron connected... I do not sell contacts to Aggie.
turn 78: India has Construction and 270 gold??? (where did that came
from?) Persia has 61 gold. Aggie must have bought contacts through
Persia... (There is no other way except me of course!) I have RoP with
Ottomans and Babylon. No other embassys bought yet... Connecting the
iron for mass upgrade (in 12 turns)...

The plan is to only hit the big productive cores of the Ottoman empire
and leave them with jungle and toundra cities. I have 4 strike groups
2x 1spear+4swords, 1x 1spear+5swords, 1x 1spear+5swords+1horse. In the
north and south there is 1 horse to counter incoming archers...

Nore: Antalya's borders just expanded!

I lost three swords but killed 8 or 9 spears, 2 medinfs and a pike
and captured like 10 or so workers... I am hoping that the ai is
gonna build settlers instead of medinfs now with all the open lands...

turn 104:

So far the blitzkrieg is doing fine allthough I have suffered heavy
loses against the medinfs... I will be running out of troops if I
dont cut off that iron near Istabul fast! (And destroy it of course.)

In the north there is a settler on its way but in the AI turn
suddenly 2 more units showed up!

The main battleplan stays the same: destroy their productive lands
and deprive them of their strategic resources.

Reflection and sum up, any comments very welcome :)

Just played turn 106 this morning. In the next turn (107) I will be
able to raze Instanbul. In the AI turn they left my troops near
Istanbul alone... (In the north there is constant fighting going on.)
They will only have 1 out 3 horses left and none of the two irons
they had.

War was declared in the preturn of 99, so 8 turns later we take the
capital which is IMO quite fast! It will be the 6th city that will be
razed. If Istanbul falls easy I will certainly have enough troops left
to immediately continue the offensive as planned in earlier
posts.

After that I decide either to stay at war and go leader fishing on
the archers and settler-combos the AI will continue to sent at me
from their artic and jungle cities or start milking the Ottomans
in a peace deal.

The reason of my succes in this game is the fact that I was able to
upgrade 18 warriors with the money earned with the MapMaking-galley-
gamble. I now need a bit more luck to get a leader for the FP in the
Istanbul area.

Aggie just signed peace with Persia. He razed a city but gained
nothing in this war (he was attacked of course). He has to take
them over in order to get the resources of the later game (uranium
(we do a spacerace game), coal, oil, rubber, saltpeter, maybe
aluminium). Skyfish (the map maker) ensured us that all resources
are on our homecontinents.

Why are you razing all those cities anyway ?
RCP reasons ? Scared of flips ?
The other AIs will land loads of galleys with settlers once they see this beautiful
green pastures :D This will substantially delay your acquisition of the whole
continent or even make it impossible if you want to play a builder game and not be
at constant war with far away AIs...

I am afraid of flips and need my troops in the field. Only the Persians are
able to land on our shores so far... I am building my own settlers who can
move very fast (all roads) to the settlement-locations. The Persians move
slow and yes; I think I will have war with Persia too some time...

Also I hope that the Ottomans build settlers instead of weapons... [evil]

Turn 111:

Terrible turn: lost 3 swords and a horse taking Bursa. My 3 catapults
all missed. But still, the progress is doing fine and the AI sends
all his troops to Mampo (the nothern iron-horse city... I had a
Persian threath so they will back off for a while. The Babs settled
in the west. My only elite died but I got another one.

I dont have time to kill the resistence, I am doing a blitzkrieg here and Bursa was size 5.

I have only 2 culture per turn (the palace), the other have 100 times more or so... [eek]

turn 115:

The last 3 turns the Ottomans had a revival: the trew 1 horse, 2
knights, 1 pike, 2 spears and a number of archers at me!

Fortunally almost all were in reach of my 3 catapults so I could
use my elite swords and ver horses to finish them off. They have
lost their sources of iron and horses some time now so I think
these knights and pikes will be the last the will sent...

I fear the Korean people will be very xenofobic as they want to
have their continent only for themselfs... It is waiting for a
leader named Pim Fortuyn to stand up!

turn 128:

I signed peace with the Ottomans after killing 6 archers in one turn.
This turn I had no loses but the last 10 turns were a drama for me. I
have lost too many units to maintain an offensive. Maenwhile the
Ottomans were trowing more and more at me but either my elites die
or the fail to generate a leader. So I stopped and the FP will be
finished in 188 turns... Some day I will finish off the Ottomans,
maube I will be able to get a leader that time,

Aggie is in anarchy, I will revolt in a couple of turns. First I
need to fill the new cities. In the peace treaty I got 2 cities,
a worker and Theology. I had all my troops (including 4 catapults)
near his capitol strengthening my demands...

In 20 turns I will attack again with 10 knights or so to reduce them
to 1 city. Then I can extort them some techs and cities again...
Meanwhile I will be handbuilding the palace and FP in two better
located cities. The Ai's are flying in tech but I think a world war
will start soon... Also aggie has to take over the Persians
to get a chance to build his spaceship...

Quite remarkable: the only wars in this game yet were:
- me attacking the otto's
- the persians attacking aggie
- the babylonians attacking aggie after refusing a treath

So my situation isnt that bad yet. I am Theology ahead of aggie,
maybe he has Invention. We are more or less on tech par. I hope we
can make a research agreement to help each other against these ai's...

Congrats ERIKK, I had to take desperate measures in desperate times. It didn't work, the Persians had rifles while I had knights.
