We're at turn 20 and here is my crappy little world, Gothmog already had a few settlers it seems [crazyeye]
I only met the Chinese and there was no trade possible but I started a min science on Math at 4000bc so am not worried about techs.
I popped a hut with 3 barbs next to Shanghai and that really helped stall China, their 3 workers are now in their capital and I bought one of them for 5 gpt and 15g. Means I make no money now but it should pay out in the long run.
My capital is really badly placed so for the first time in ages I did not go for granary first, I will jump the palace to a more central location, maybe my second city short term.

This game is very difficult for me I totally messed up the original strategy and am going nowhere but in the wall (expecially vs such a great player as Gothmog...).
Seems I always have one PBEM that goes totally wrong and its this one now out of the current bunch having taken over from the ignominous Kemal game [V]
I am not playing RCP in this game and its a welcome change, I have also decided to bank on a late game and I am not building densily [eek]
I hate to always use teh same pattern or play the same game so I am trying something different here :D I have built a lot of infra early on, and being almost totally deprived of food bonus at the capital and around I had to build my second city (meant to become settler factory) very late and far...Evn though I am commercial I already have corruption in my first ring. My capital is also excentered and I intend to throw it away at one point.
Now on the good side of things : the Chinese my upstairs neighbours got a disastrous jungle starts and never expanded, they must have fought a disastrous battle with the Greek Hoplites very early on because they never got off the ground, theres no way I am seeing Riders in this game :D
The Greeks are mighty though and are great at researching : they made my early Math gamble (automatic with the French ;)) real valuable and I got amongst others Map Making and Iron Working from it !
So thats the second piece of good news : I will have a galley whipped in 2 turns and I sure hope thats quicker than Gothmog or the AIs. His score is humongous and it seems the other continent is doing better than us [sad]

Cheer up Sky :D You are not that far behind in points and you WILL have the Chinese land soon. Three luxuries are very nice to have, Gothmog has one trait that is now useless and YOU have commercial. The continents allow you to grow a little before Gothmog can hurt you. Continent games usually are longer and then the commercial trait really is going to help.
Aggie You're right my post appears too negative so I want to insist I really like this game and I get the strange feeling it will hold some very special events [dunno]

Despite Aggie's previous Inspirator session I still classify this game as "utterly lost" :
it all stems from very poor location city choices and most importantly NO USE OF RCP !
Gothmog is a huge player and there is no way I am winning this one.
We are in 610BC and I just came out of Anarchy to Republic.

So I am demotivated, which makes me lose concentration, which means
I am making mistakes, which means I am falling down a dark abyss no end....
The only good news recently has been during my Chinese military campaign :

After much hesitation, about using this leader to relocate my Palace
I went for an FP in Rouen, in ex-China.
The other good news was that China discovered Republic on the turn
my min sci gamble for Construction finished and 2 turns before I was
going to raze them off the planet. I was able to get Rep for peace
and the turn after my allies the Greeks eliminated the Chinese.
BUT despite my best effort Gothmog was able to acquire Rep very soon after me [cry]
and previously he had been the first one to meet the other continent just 2 turns before me !
Now I am in expansion/infra phase but I fear I will not be able to
grow fast enough in order to make up for lost growth coming from my
high corruption.

I am up Engineering and Monotheism on Gothmog and at parity with the
AIs thanks to a 2fer with Germany for high gpt, they might not
survive that long as they were the victim of Goth's very agressive playstyle.
As you can see he has a large empire and a very strong RCP core,
which I totally lack...
If I can survive until Hospitals I might have a slim chance...
I've just made too many mistakes in this game and "No RCP vs RCP" is
automatic loss at this level, fuck knows what went through my mind
on that one [sad]
