Hopefully this will be available soon for us UK version players but meanwhile I have gone throught the list and check these fixes, the best one being last :D :

* Fixed lockup when loading pbem and switching to standard

* Fixed numerous bugs related to hotseat/pbem game modes and loading saves/scenarios

* Fixed Specific sequence pbem to scenario load crash

* Fixed crash when choosing scenario->load game-> then launching the loaded game

* Fixed a bug where units with 2 movement points would occasionally warp 1 tile when moved quickly in succession.

* Fixed a bug where diplomacy requests were sent to the wrong player/every player when loading a game.

* Fixed some display bugs in the Foreign Advisor.

* Fixed bug which caused walls not to be obsoleted by growing from a town to a city.

* Fixed an exploit allowing one to get extra shields during wartime mobilization.

* Fixed a PBEM exploit which allowed you to see other players turns even in passworded games.

Will also have to wait for Meli to find me a No-CD executable for that patch as I cant live without it anymore :D

Bleh. Roll on 2 months from now when they finally get the UK patch...

Good to see they fixed the mobilisation bug at last, that was a real killer bug!

Not sure what that last exploit is Sky, and I'm not sure I want you to post the details here thanks. ;)

I thought they promised us everyone would get a patch at the same time from 1.21 on??? Apparently I didn't get that one as it was meant......

I'll stop now before I start ranting....

gaargh, now there's another chance to trash Firaxis for bugs and you all will have a good chance to find them all before I get home :(

That last pbem exploit allows you to get into single player mode and play as your opponent. Won't post how, never used it (of course [:p] ) but I discovered that coincidentally.
I agree on the no-cd. I dramatically reduces loading time (and since I play on 2 computers I dislike dragging the disc with me all day...)

According to CFC the US version is also out. Guess which one we still have to wait for:

"Also, I emailed Jesse Smith today about the UK patch and he said it's not posted yet because the Atari localization person is new and didn't get the UK version wrapped with the right copy protection. The UK patch should be released tomorrow. - Thunderfall"

Anyway, within a couple of days we all will have it!

Oh no, and i was exploiting that city walls bug...now when i upgrade they will be useless[sad]

the password thing was almost useless, the only reason it was there was to stop you accidentally loading some one else's turn (from the main menu ;)). This is a good fix.

Yea i need that no-cd patch, i just got a free laptop, but it has no cd-drive, i had to borrow a cd-drive just to install the game.

hmm I see in the CFC patch center that US, UK and Euro version of the patch are downloadable...but i need a no-cd patch as i don't have a CD player in my new (free!!! C333 laptop)

I have updated the Patches page (http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/portal.asp?ContentID=21&CategoryID=5) with the UK and US 1.27f patches. If anyone wants a different version of the patch just let me know and we'll get it.

There was some doubt on CFC as to weather the UK patch is infact a copy of the US patch, I have posted in CFC and am waiting for a reply. If it is a copy of the US patch then it wont work for the UK version (because of the idiot factor again!!!!)

Have you ever compared file sizes of the original civilization3x.exe and the no-cd version? The patch is IIRC 800k smaller.

Skyfish

There is already a no-cd patch for the 1.27f German version, the UK version should be available soon as well [dance]

I think the NOCD patch saves loading time because the CD check is not done. Has anyone ever played any LAN games w/ the NOCD patch. I was having problems getting a LAN game going so I got rid of the patch but that didn't help. Then I tried on two new laptops and I'm still having problems....sigh. I really want to play a coop game w/ my wife and it would be the epitomy of stupidity to play PBEM when we sit 5 feet apart with a network.

Skyfish
06-08-2003, 21:50
Can you play other LAN games with no problem ?
Are you sure its a Civ problem and not a LAN problem ?
I heard LAN games normally went OK...

Nightfa11
06-08-2003, 22:11
I haven't really tried any other lan games. Maybe I'll try Heroes of Might and Magic and see how it works.

I doubt it's a LAN problem. I can access her drive and vice versa as well as all other points on the network. I probably will also go back to DirectX 8 (which is a problem in and of itself because I need DX9 for the new Nero) and see if that works. I have read of some directx problems with civ3 and dx9). However, it didn't work on my old setup with dx8 either, so who knows. When I get my main laptop back I'll do some more testing.

I doubt that this will work. You will be able to start the game, but some elements won't show up correctly or not respond to mouse activity. ... I know, cause stupid me once skipped the DX9 installation out of pure haste. (Clicking Yes to any and every Dialog box that would come up ... sometimes you really have to read that stuff...)

Anyway, I had a three-players MP game running, everybody no-cd patched. No problems.

digger760
06-08-2003, 22:36
i did'nt think you could uninstall directX drivers...besides PTW requirement is Dx8.1.

Did you try the direct IP connection. I never tried LAN, but i do have Dx9.0 and no-cd patch and have no problems with PTW otherwise.

Nightfa11
06-08-2003, 22:46
actually, dx8 is the proper civ dx.....dx9 came out after ptw. In dx9 I can't even see the other game, only internet games. In dx8 I was able to see the game but got crashes on launch.

DX8.1 instead of DX9 ...

...the ones who can read and remember have their advantages ...[rolleyes]

Nightfa11
06-08-2003, 23:44
direct ip=yes Same behaviour in dx9 (no connect) and dx8.1 (sorry, left off the .1 earlier)...crash

to uninstall directx, I have a file called directx eradicator that does the job. Let me know if you want it. It's only 90k. It does require an Operating System CD for Win2k and WinXP...so it can restore dx8

digger760
07-08-2003, 10:24
hmmm, don't really know then, maybe your video drivers need updating to use Dx9 properly.

But probably best you use Dx8.1 as it is more likely to be stable.

digger760
07-08-2003, 10:26
also it seems almost certain that the UK patch is a copy of the US patch and will not work (but i suspect it will if you can get your hands on a no cd patch)

I haven't yet, but will install it later tonight. I guess I will have to keep a copy of 1.21 running for those who drag their feet...

To quote Thunderfall:quote:No, Atari STILL hasn't posted a working UK PTW 1.27f patch yet. However, there is a way to make the US patch work on the UK version. Just follow these simple steps:

1) Install the US 1.27f patch (Download from Atari CivFanatics, 11.21 MB)

2)Replace the "Civilization3X.exe" file from the CIV3PTW folder with the "Civilization3X.exe" file from this zip (2.49 MB). This will fix the "insert CD" copy protection error that appears after you install the US patch over the UK version.

3)Have fun playing! So, it looks like a no-CD patch. :D

So, I just installed both the 1.27US+patch and 1.27UK versions on my PC, alongside 1.21.

The main conclusion was that the only difference between the US version and the UK one is the Civilization3X.exe itself, with the copy protection on. This file is what was provided in the workaround 'patch' for 1.27US.

I can also confirm that the 1.27 saves are loadable from 1.21, both single player games and PBEM games. :(

I changed the patches page here anyway with the proper UK version, I guess we should upgrade at some point...

Aggie
13-08-2003, 08:16
This weekend I'm going to test what the mapmaking features of 1.27 are. If it's still not possible to create a proper 4000BC save with 1.27, then I may for a while have three versions on my PC :(

Stapel
13-08-2003, 14:28
I only have 1.27 now. It works fine with my 1.21 PBEM opponents.

My problem: I used to have a no-cd patch. I want a 1.27 no-cd patch. When I attach a save in outlook, my cdr starts runing and slows thing down. That is really annoying!

Anarres, I have full convidence in your abilities to provide us with a 1.27 no-cd patch!

I here that you can play PBEM with players using 1.21 or 1.27.

I wonder what happens between patch 1.21 and patch 1.27 now that city walls obsolence bug has been fixed?

Stapel
15-08-2003, 14:59
I don't even remember the last time I have built citywalls....

digger760
15-08-2003, 15:06
i never built them either till i found out that the defense bonus for them isn't cancelled after reaching size 6, thus size 6 bonus (50%) + city walls (50%) = 100% defense bonus.

I normally build them near the AI and tempt them to attack the city and then watch them impale themselves mwhahahahaha[devil2]

I can confirm 1.21 and 1.27 is compatible in pbem (me and JM) playing now.

And on the no cd crack to 1.27. I have it on http://w1.250.telia.com/~u25006753

Shabbaman
05-09-2003, 09:59
I've had this before occasionally, so I don't know if it's a civ3x.exe problem or a system error: when I start the game a second time (not really uncommon when playing pbem...) I can't get build options. I.o.w. when I want to choose to build something, I can't. When I decide to save that game, I can't either, since the list of savegames plus the box where you can put savenames plus the save button are gone as well.

And that's when the program runs. Most of the time I doubleclick the icon and nothing happens. Which obviously sucks.

anarres
05-09-2003, 10:52
Shabba - are you talking about 1.27? [:o]

It works fine for me, I was jsut going to suggest people upgrade now...

Shabbaman
05-09-2003, 11:26
That's 1.27, that's why I'm posting it in the 1.27 thread. I also installed the no-cd, same problems. With 1.21, only occasional problems, with 1.14 major crashes if I had outlook open at the same time.

anarres
05-09-2003, 12:23
Sounds like a problem with your PC, since you had problems with the other patches too. Hmm, it would be good to be able to suggest something (other than trying a reinstall)...

In all seriousness, I think people should give it a go - several of us have been using it for a while without problems.

Ribannah
28-09-2003, 12:49
I also have European English PTW and when I install any 1.27 version this causes problems. Animations and screens slow down to hick-ups, texts and functions disappear, and finally the game crashes. It looks to me that there is a huge memory problem, and the (altered) US 1.27 patch is definitely not compatible with EU English PTW.
