I suppose I'll find out when I get my turn in the mailbox :) What's your e-mail addy btw, Matrix ?

digger760
24-07-2003, 15:06
i got the sav, but i can't really spend half an hour getting familiar with it at work.

To be honest i can't remember having played modern age civ3, oh hang on once...but i never built stealth units...i dont even know what some of these other units can do[blush].

I'll try to send it when i get home b/w 5:30 and 6pm.

digger, build MA's and MechInf units only, the rest are fairly useless. Oh, and nukes. ;)

IIRC the race to the internet is pretty quick...

Black_Waltz
24-07-2003, 18:55
Col is Japan and Jack_Merchant is India. Not sure about Mel.

Hmmmm... Well so far I'm liking this scenario. It's nice just to be able to start and churn out units!

digger760
25-07-2003, 08:29
i found it a bit un-nerving, all those modern weapons, and dodgy nieghbours

Added. ;)

jack merchant
25-07-2003, 14:18
As Matrix suggested, it might be a good idea to agree on a number of turns of global peace first - how about 5 turns ? Please post what you think :)

Matrix
25-07-2003, 15:20
I'm in favour (of course). ;)

Black_Waltz
25-07-2003, 17:08
I know, Digger. I hate having a border with more then one civilisation. It's scary!

Matrix
26-07-2003, 15:57
It doesn't go very fast, is it? Where is it now?

Nightfa11
26-07-2003, 17:03
I sent it to digger yesterday at 5:21 GMT-6. It keeps getting emailed to my hotmail acct and I don't check that but once every few days and I tend not to notice the message in MSN messenger that I have email. Please email to the email in my sig.

Obviously remove the smartass @blahblah and just leave the mike@ and the dickey.cc (yes, I hate bots than scan UBB's for emails to spam)

jack merchant
26-07-2003, 17:57
This is turn #2 we're talking about ?

Nightfa11
26-07-2003, 18:47
Yes, I sent turn 2 last night

jack merchant
26-07-2003, 19:46
I suppose it may be held up by Melifluous....and I don't know when he can play again

Black_Waltz
27-07-2003, 05:56
Digger will probably get it on Monday. He's usually busy over the weekends. That'll mean I can play it as soon as he can (I have no life).

Ehecatl Atzin
27-07-2003, 06:03
Where can we find maps of your fair lands?

WildFire
27-07-2003, 06:59
Look for the scenario and you'll see everyone's land [:p]

Black_Waltz
27-07-2003, 12:27
Would you say its cheating to do this? Or since it's a scenario it doesn't matter?

Black_Waltz
27-07-2003, 13:57
For our spectators...

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Black_Waltz/2003727135434_deathmatchmap.jpg
7.83KB

I think this'll be an intresting match. All that we have is 2 Mech Infantry in each city and so I guess we have to start an arms race. Nukes can't be built yet either. [crazyeye]

Ehecatl Atzin
27-07-2003, 20:30
Oh, nice, thanks. Didn't read the scenario part [crazyeye]

WildFire
27-07-2003, 22:02
I think nukes should be illegal in the game. We should only be able to use MA, MI, and the other units, NOT any nuke type weapons.

Black_Waltz
28-07-2003, 01:07
I agree. I think nukes should have been modded out of this anyway. I'm up for that if everyone else is.

Ehecatl Atzin
28-07-2003, 07:47
No WMD?!? The Tyrant in me awakens in anger! [:P]

digger760
28-07-2003, 09:24
sorry guys, i was away for the weekend on a stag weekend chasing hens;). have sent the turn now.

i thought we could build nukes, once the manhatten project was built.

Black_Waltz
28-07-2003, 10:45
Well. Theoretically we can - but do we want to? The last Deathmatch kinda had a nuke fest quite early on and once your cities get nuked it kinda takes the fun out of playing. At least you can defend against MA's.

Matrix
28-07-2003, 11:52
The fact that nukes aren't fun is because none of us care when someone uses them. If we acted a bit more like AI, declaring war on anyone who uses them without a reason, I think it won't be a problem allowing them.

That's the whole reason why reputation counts for AI. [rolleyes] To try to maintain the balance.

Black_Waltz
28-07-2003, 20:04
Ok. So the rule is if anyone uses a nuke on someone else we all declare war on the person who used it as a first strike.

Black_Waltz
31-07-2003, 01:51
Who has the save?

Nightfa11
31-07-2003, 04:42
I don't.

digger760
31-07-2003, 09:52
Melifluous most likely has it and he is on holidays this week....and....i am on holidays next week, but there are some RL concerns that may couse me to cancel the holiday, i'm not sure yet.

Skyfish
31-07-2003, 10:31
Cancel the holiday ????
Good news :D

Black_Waltz
31-07-2003, 12:09
Luckily I'm a sad prat who doesn't go on holidays. Its good to have no life when your life is Civ-oreintated. :)

col
31-07-2003, 13:21
I'm on holiday in Florida from Aug 2nd to 10th. I have a life too. [coool]

Black_Waltz
31-07-2003, 19:49
Strange people.

jack merchant
31-07-2003, 22:14
Wishing all these people a happy holiday......

But it goes to show that multiplayer PBEMs had better not be started during the holidays .... :)

Right, that's about exactly the point when Melifluous returns.[crazyeye]

Good point, jack_merchant. ;)

Black_Waltz
31-07-2003, 22:45
*grumbles* I don't get holidays. You pack up and leave everything you WANT to do behind and go and be absoloutly bored for a week or two and pay out loads of money! What's the point!

jack merchant
02-08-2003, 15:03
Received the turn from Melifluous today and sent it on to Matrix

Black_Waltz
02-08-2003, 15:14
Bleh. I think it'll get stuck at Digger before me... *sighs*

digger760
05-08-2003, 09:26
It is infact stuck with wildfire as he went on holidays. I had to cancel mine...which is very unfortunate cos this week will is forcast to be perfect sunshine 27-29 degrees, which has'nt happened in the 3 years I've been in Ireland.

Black_Waltz
06-08-2003, 17:16
It's too hot here. I saw on the weather that it was forcast to be 42 degrees in central France... It's just getting silly when Western Europe has higher tempretures then Iran...

Black_Waltz
06-08-2003, 17:27
*coughs* Oh well. :-p

anarres
06-08-2003, 17:39
In cambridge it hit 38 degrees today. [eek]

Hmm, air-con all the way for me!

Skyfish
06-08-2003, 21:03
You got air con at home ?
[eek]

digger760
06-08-2003, 21:39
I think we had a sea fog here in Dublin, it only got to about 23.

anarres
06-08-2003, 23:04
I've got aircon in the office, it's the only thing that keeps me sane atm...

Nightfa11
07-08-2003, 01:44
Ummm....most of you don't have air conditioning at home?

Well, I hate to be the "ugly american" here but that sucks. Esp if it gets to 38c/100f. Anything above 80 is mandatory AC for me. My computers would wilt and die if I let the temp inside the house get over 90....

Black_Waltz
07-08-2003, 02:23
Air Conditioning... In Scotland? That's akin to having Air Conditioning in Siberia most of the time!

digger760
07-08-2003, 10:15
thats one thing i dont miss about Oz...constant 40 degree summer heat. I used to work out for about 8 months in Australia's hotspot...near Marble Bar... where the tempreture between October and March constantly hit 43-45 degrees.

WildFire

you did remove the nospam, right? just checking because I haven't gotten it yet

Nightfa11
13-08-2003, 19:21
Got it. I'll play as soon as I get a computer to play on.

Matrix
17-08-2003, 15:52
This game goes very slowly. The most probable explanation is that I didn't take the time to inquire about at what time we play usually/preferably. So let's do that now and if those times indeed do not match (at all) that I think we'll have to restart.

Every game can be played at one turn a day IMO.

My preferable time is around dinner: 16:00-18:00 GMT. :)

jack merchant
17-08-2003, 15:55
Anywhere between 6pm-2am GMT is usually fine by me.

Black_Waltz
18-08-2003, 04:39
I can normally play anything after 6pm GMT weekdays, all day weekends.

Who all is still on holiday?

digger760
18-08-2003, 10:38
I thought it was stuck with nightfal cos his PC is broke.. and people were on hol's before that.

Anyway i can play 7:30am to 4:30pm weekdays GMT (now that i have a laptop i can play weekends but probably wont be before midday.)

Nightfa11
19-08-2003, 13:46
Play was stuck because My pc was broke...sending now

digger760
19-08-2003, 15:50
sav sent to black waltz....i see i Berlin is number 1 city..yah...i wonder how long for...i see somebody is building the manhattan project

Matrix
19-08-2003, 17:51
No restart necessary then. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/said.gif

jack merchant
20-08-2003, 00:24
It's a small Wonder, isn't it? I don't remember whether I started it, but I'd advise you to do the same Digger (and get some alliances, or you're toast [help] [:p].

Black_Waltz
20-08-2003, 01:25
Sent to Col. Hah. Manhatten Project is simply a waste of resources!

jack merchant
20-08-2003, 11:56
Black_Waltz, the MP is a Small Wonder in this scenario - i.e. you *need* to build it if you want to be able use nukes. If you don't though, that's fine - but don't be surprised if you discover a nice little radioactive present on your doorstep soon [nuke][fdevil][evil].

Unless everyone here agrees on a non-proliferation treaty of course :).

Black_Waltz
20-08-2003, 18:14
Ah yes. But there are other small wonders much more worth building!

I didn't even realize it! (uh oh)

Black_Waltz
23-08-2003, 08:14
*lol* I'm thinking maybe next scenario's nukes should be removed completley. As seeing what happened in last Deathmatch...

jack merchant
23-08-2003, 13:44
Shall I just take the win by default :D ?

digger760
27-08-2003, 09:02
I accidentally clicked on your deathmatch spoiler thread Black Waltz....though i did'nt read much, just the last post and maybe 1 or 2 before that that were posted by other readers. then i wondered why you were posting stuff that you probably should'nt be telling....then i relised DOH!!!![wallbash]

Actually i think i've almost done that a few times, then relised, maybe you could highlight the Thread a bit better (just for me [blush]) i use *** SPOILER *** at the start of mine. Not sure if that helps, but i think you thread title is less obvious and i'm still waking up when i check CDZ.

Matrix

Black_Waltz
27-08-2003, 18:34
*roflmao* Maybe I should block you from my forum before you read the CrocPBEM too! :-p Actually, not putting *spoillers* there was made conciously because I thought it would be kinda pointing out the obvious with my forum named 'Black Waltz's spoilers'... Obviously not. :-p

jack merchant
27-08-2003, 21:31
Meli still has it - perhaps someone could play his turn for him ?

Samildanach
02-09-2003, 23:37
I have a question for you guys. Since you have all agreed to declare war with somone who launches a nuke strike - how is this being enforced? Like say jack sends 5 nukes melis way do you all have to launch a punitive nuclear strike against Jack or can you get away with a phoney war ? All of you declaring war on Jack but effectively leaving Meli to his fate.

jack merchant
02-09-2003, 23:57
Un, I don't think we actually agreed that - I wouldn't mind an NPT (non-proliferation treaty), but let's vote on it. We can go nuclear in an instant too.

Anyway, without a replacement for Melifluous, no-ones going to nuke anyone. Would you like to join in, samildanach ? :)

Samildanach
03-09-2003, 00:21
Thanks Jack but I think you should grab someone who hasn't read the spoilers [groucho]

It's like playing Hearts: if it looks someone gets all the points someone should try to get points himself. Someone should sacrifice a bit to make sure the one trying to get all the points won't achieve this.

Translated into this game: we should make sure no one can get away with a nuke strike. If someone does not give the aggressor a hard time, and he's the only one, it's in the advantage of him. But if no one attacks the aggressor, then he did get away with it, and you can expect some nukes yourself, bringing ultimate chaos.

At least, that's how I see it.

WildFire
04-09-2003, 21:09
If the game ever continues...

Matrix
05-09-2003, 14:56
Well, we need a replacement for Mel. Perhaps someone can mention it when there's a massive conversation going on again with MSN...

jack merchant
05-09-2003, 15:16
Maybe we should restart ? That way, some of the people who have read the spoilers could join in..... (that obviously means giving everyone a different civ, too)

Sir Eric
10-09-2003, 08:53
I'm more then happy to take Mel's place

Matrix
10-09-2003, 10:39
Cool! Then Col should send the last savegame he has to you and we can play on. :)

Sir Eric
10-09-2003, 13:37
Ok my email is mandmyoung[at]optusnet.com.au

col
10-09-2003, 17:15
Okey dokey - save is on its way.
Someone will need to pass on melis password or the admin password.

Sir Eric
10-09-2003, 21:33
Got the save just waiting for the password.

Matrix
10-09-2003, 22:00
I forgot the password. [eek] We should ask Mel, or restart after all.

http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/wallbash.gif

col
10-09-2003, 22:18
The irony is that Meli knows how to crack passwords too.

Sir Eric
11-09-2003, 09:40
I sent an email to him yesterday but if that fails then if someone else has picked up a game of his that has a pasword, if they send it to me then I can give that a try... Just maybe I'm not the only err... person to use the same password for all their pbems

jack merchant
11-09-2003, 11:08
Mailed Mel's password from the 8-player game to you Sir Eric :).

Sir Eric
13-09-2003, 12:59
Thanks Jack. Could you resend it cause I haven't received it yet.

Matrix
13-09-2003, 18:09
Just sent it to WildFire. [yeah]

digger760
17-09-2003, 16:13

col
17-09-2003, 16:26
Maybe we should restart.

WildFire
17-09-2003, 21:17
i sent turn 5 to night the day I got it.

Matrix
18-09-2003, 11:08
"to night the day I got it"? When did you send it exactly?

Though it doesn't really matter; it seems you need to resend it anyway. :) Could you please do that?

Nightfa11
22-09-2003, 20:01
I dind't know this was sitting in my MSN as I check that email about once a month (as specified previously here). Now I know and I've played and sent the next one (well, going to send it as soon as I figure out from the beginning of this thread to whom it should go)

digger760
23-09-2003, 10:09

Sir Eric
11-10-2003, 13:54
This game needs a damm good shot of adrenaline. It seems to have overdosed on valium though
