The game got restarted again. I am playing Shaka of the Holy Roman Empire.

This time for real (at least it is going for some months now)

I am doing ok. I plan to focus on military after getting CS.

On the other continent, Mayic might be running away with the game. I just built my first caravels to make contact.

To the west Arkipeller is rather weak, seems like a good victim if not someone else will go after him first.

Hm, I'd be worried about an attack on your NE city - there is a jungled hill two-tile approach to it. Once you have an enemy SOD sitting on that hill with an absurd defence bonus you're in trouble!

So what's the team aspect of this game exactly?

So what's the team aspect of this game exactly?

The team aspect is that all players are also part of the CFC team of the current ISDG.

And that the world was built with similar settings than the ISDG map.

But in the game itself there are no teams...

Good point.

And probably I will look like a better target for him than the guy in the upper left.

barbu, can you move a few units close to that city?
But maybe not all should be visible to him.

my big step would be cutting that jungle ASAP, and putting roads on the hills, then a fort on the one next to the town and a bunch of units in. ;) One spear, one crossbow, one axe for now.

I wouldn't bother with a fort, if they get that far you'll want to be in a city with cats getting healing bonuses anyways. I don't think you've got enough workers to think about wasting time doing that. I'd pump some more out workers quickly and start making yourself productive.

CFC?

Celtic Football Club, of course

What did you think anyway?

Definitely a mistake, having too little workers, I already built some more, but probably you are right, that a few more would help.

(And another big mistake is that I already switched to Organized Religion, but didn't chose a state religion)

The fort seems a bit too much indeed. For the moment, I have sent workers there to chop the jungle.

As for workers, do you want me to do chopping, or would you like to preserve some forests for later fast builds.

socralynnek

I think, chopping makes sense, where the city builds some useful building or if the tile gets improved and used soon, otherwise the forest can be kept.

A great merchant is born. (Jacques Cartier, good coincidence, me playing this turn. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_Cartier )

We are still early in the game, it might be good to make a super specialist. Although, your empire is big, his weight is little and may be better used on a GA.

+1 food sounds too good in my opinion.

so make him a super specialist, I think the capital is best suited for this.

Trouble ahead. All forces have been called to defent the city, but I'm not sure our the Holly Roman Empire will survive the attack:

ha! I *knew* that was too good an attack route! Now just imagine there still was jungle on the hill next to your town - uh oh!

I need help about strategy on this one. I don't remember exactly how civ 4 works.

He does have 19 cats on hand. IIRC, it will be useless to stack units in the city. They will get killed by the units after he sacrifices all the cats.

I should instead build a stack of my own and strike when he is inside my roads. This will mean loosing the city, but I don't think an can do otherwise.

Or will the city defense protect me from collateral damage?

BCLG100

Well Civ4 mechanics will protect you somewhat from cat attacks. IIRC it's the top 6 units lose a percentage of their health with all collateral damage. He also has the axes to suicide if necessary. It really depends on what you have, with a stack that size unless you have a decent amount of cats/he plays poorly then you are screwed.

I would say a better option would be to sue for a peace treaty, potentially ceding that city in return for 50 turns of peace or something like that. Alternatively, convince someone on his border to invade. I don't know what the power graphs look like but he surely wouldn't have much more left hanging around anywhere.

How many units do you have? If more in his SOD by a margin (5-10+), you can sit it out in the city and kill out his SOD with crossbows in the retaliation attack. If not, it is a tough call. Need also about 25+ cats to be able to attack that stack of oromos with crossbows. Also, need to upgrade however many axemen you have IMO.

It looks like a well planed attack comming from 2 civs.

I've left only 2 defensive units in both cities and regrouped most units in a future SoD.

I don't think this will be enough, but we should go down with a fight.

Lt. Killer M

Yep, that's coordinated ;)

To answer your question: in CIV the attacker ALWAYS has the advantage if he brings a mixed stack, unless you have more catapults than him. The reason is the very powerful collateral damage and the city attack boni for catapults. Thus, either you can weather the attack - but be prepared for ridiculous losses if he has enough units to mop up your wounded after using his catapults. Or you must pre-attack the SOD in open terrain.

I guess you do NOT have 20 or more catapults ready for the NE stack? And roughly the same of the second one?

Well, that is something I'd never do. Attacking someone's sub two turns before the player itself comes back.

(There is no rule against that, of course, but I wouldn't do that)

Anyway, my fault, as I never tried to contact one of them for a NAP (or contact anyone)

Whatever. I guess, both cities will fall (or if I see correctly they have fallen already)
Let's see how much damage I can do.

And I guess, the game will be decided on the other continent anyway.

So, the two cities fell, the units were gathered for some counter attack.

I had my stack sitting in between the two stacks that were coming closer, when the road under the stack got destroyed by a spy. Which meant, that I wasn't able to retreat with the stack to gather more units (and giving up another city)

So I attacked with that stack, almost killing nothing. (In the end it would have been better to just sit and let him waste his catapults, but it wouldn't have changed much because his units are superior)

Which now basically means game over for me...
