Thanks to a confusing message at steam I bought the G&K expansion. Steam said it was available now, apparently it still isnt till the 22nd. No biggie but still.
I'd like to play a MP game to get the hang of it, it will be my 1st G&K game. Can be 1v1 or a FFA, all the same to me.

Figured out firaxis basically has done nothing to facilitate normal MP games. Sad. No pitboss, no PBEM, just empty promises. [/rant]
Luckily some guys with too much time on their hand started http://multiplayerrobot.com/ I'd like to start a G&K games using their tool. I'm ready to start with who ever feels like joining but I'll be on holiday for 2 weeks starting next saturday, so I;m looking for a sub right away :) Just two weeks though.

KR and Shabba replied, gonna start with them if they're still up for it. As I'm leaving on my holiday saturday morning I'd like to start on the 21st when I return.
I suggest:
- normal size map
- pangea/archipelago if with an odd number of players, with an even number I prefer continents
- no city states
If more people like to join that's fine with me. I'd say we use the multiplayer robot site to play it like an old fashioned PBEM.

joining is easy as hell, just press the 'sign in through steam'button in the upper right corner, sign in using Steam and presto: you've joined the site and they import your avvie as a bonus.

BTW, one very annoying thing is that Civ V does not allow you to go back to the main menu after playing a hot seat turn. So you have to exit CivV after playing each turn. Thank you Firaxis for making life difficult.
How hard can it be to come up with some decent pitboss/PBEM in 2012.....

Cannot surrender as it is ShabaAaAaAaAa's turn. Cannot join game because in other game. rock-hard place.
Weird that you cannot join, I can join 2 games simulatenously and so can Shabba.
Also the MP robot FAQ says 2 games is the normal limit for non paying peeps like us

Slight problem, Civ V is tripping on me and giving BSOD.
I think it's because I had to reinstall my OS a few weeks ago on another hard drive. Gonna reinstall from the start, busy doing that now.
Deleted, downloaded, reinstalled, worked through several crashes and BSOD's but... It works now.

I chose the civ Spain, which I can play like any other civ, but alas, steam says no. You do not have Spain. But hey, I played Spain and I have it. No, says Steam. Have to buy it from us again.
Spain bought. I should have 2 Spains now. And got the Inca's too. Works.

Just played my turn.. so what about my forum, I might have some time to make some spoilers/reports perhaps if anybody 'd care.. I'm enjoying the new civ V from the beginning, (playing G&K).. I think the new policy system beats the old whatwasitcalled in gameversatility and the combat system makes for harder city conquering but more interesting army fleet invasion visuals.. spy system is interesting with some interesting new options.. only religion is still a bit hampered compared to the civ IV implementation (missing the city conversion) but it's still good... it`s definitely a different kind of civ in a good way, I believe.. now why do I feel a bit sick?? is there going to be a second expansion? is King Reno going to reopen my forum?? Will Matrix ever get even for the great backstab in which game was it?? Or will stapel and I ever garee on worker per city numbers...

Also playing my turn now.
Played game, had some weird stuff when I pressed f12 for a screenshot. Turn ended which was ok, done anyway, but wanted to save as turn 2. Replayed turn exactly and then all was ok. Will use greenshot for my screenies from now on.
OK, found out that F12 is Quick Load hotkey in Civ V. Pressing that to take a screenshot can seriously ruin your day. Two options:
1) Change F12 as Steam Screenshot key in the Steam options
2) edit the CIV5Controls.xml file to change this in Civ V. The file resides under <installation Folder>\Assets\Gameplay\XML\Units
Next time I'm gonna try F12 from the next player screen after I saved the turn. If that will trigger a Quick Load that might eliminate the weird Civ V termination that is now needed to end the game after saving a turn.
im going to try to keep a spoiler thread too, but wonder what KR means by guided conquest over us his opponents??

Never noticed this but Plux post made me check.
When you mouse hover over the threads mentioned on the front page the first sentence of the thread is displayed in a pop up box. Nothing of value to see there atm but cause it's mouse over there's always the chance of an accidental reveal. I think it's wise to start your spoilers with some:
- neutral banter
- cdz certified spam
- general insults to your opponents for good measure
That should solve it.
And Reno, why is that FTW?

it seems there is smth wrong with my system.. i wa splaying in another game as well and having the same problem now here as I had there. when I try to load the save I have a black out continue button at the pw screen.. anyone familiar with this?? I had to surrender the other game.. :(
btw, it seems there was an update/patch on the game yesterday, coz now there is an option to play the game with touch screen (?) in windows 8? and there is an icon progress bar for processing the AI`s turns.. that`s all I could see for now

I`ve had the same similar problem in another hotseat game, but before yesterdays patch update.. but that problem started with a crash while loading the save. the previous player then replayed the turn and then I also had the pw screen problem.. i`m a bit clueless (duh), but I`m getting crashes i9n single player now as well so I`m awaiting feedback from support

I reinstalled to win 7 64 bit, the game is stable now, but I still have the problem with save pw screeen. ICan`t get past this.. I messaged the GMR team on facebook, hope to hear soon
Installed a timer and gonna skip one turn for you. If we get lucky next turn might just work.

good Q, It`s important to know, but I haven o clue for hotseat. I suppose though, that the icon`s on the right all apear in these kind of games too, so I would think yes, religion and wonder messages are included.. Don`t know about the messages in the middle upper part of the screen..
PLayed the turn but when I upload the turn wont roll over to the next player. Will replay and see if that helps

arent you forgetting to alt-tab or whatever to get to the desktop and then just submit.. works for me
I always submit by alt-tab'ing to the website and submitting but this time the turn won't shift to the next player. Tried a lot of stuff, nothing worked.
If I dont get an answer from the GMR guys soon, I'll just skip the turn.

That's a new feature of GMR.
I think it has to do with the latest Civ V update that finally introduces a button in Civ V to return to main menu after saving a hotseat turn. This made it possible to end Civ V normally instead of forcefully closing it. The app auto close did the forced closing for you but that became obsolete now.
just played the mother but the client gave a bit of trouble so not sure if its gonna be good for the next.. KR?

much to the contrast of what I`ve been experiencing in some other 8-player game I`m playing through GMR.. only crashes and postponence of turns...
there`s a danish guy who created a game some weeks ago..if anyone is interested there`s still a lot of open slots, if he`s still around to start it up some day of course..

Okay, I can't load the turn anymore without starting a new SP game each time. This is... quite annoying. Spending five minutes looking at a loading screen seems a bit of a waste compared to the actual turn taking nothing more than pressing enter.

The graphics do suck though, and also the screen resolution is horrible (and I could not change it, or it would crash...).
On the bright side, pressing enter does not require a lot of eyecandy.

This worked, but loading took ages: about as long as starting a new game and loading the hotseat save in dx10. Odd.

It could be GMR, but to me it seems more likely Firaxis screwed up as usual. It's a simple savegame that both Plux and Propain can load just fine, so I suspect it has something to do with the game itself.
From what I got from searching at that other site I gathered that it might have something to do with Visual C++. There's an issue I have with Steam with that as well (some games that use it ask for access to my HD every time I start the game), but I'm too lazy to fix it. No clue where to start anyway. Another thing I came across is that verifying game cache (also a Steam thing) could fix it. I will try that. This makes (a bit of) sense, since every time the game doesn't shut down properly (usually due to a crash) the game cache can be damaged. I have no idea what GMR does after saving a turn, but as long as it isn't properly shutting down through the menu it might very well be doing something wrong.
I suspect Steam and/or CivV not so much GMR. Before I did a reinstall of my entire PC I had issues with Civ V not starting properly, Dota2 causing a BSOD each and every time and Steam always crashing the 1st time I ran it.
After my reinstall everything was fine but now Steam refuses to open the store window on startup, it always starts up with it's window minimised.
I love Steam's download convenience but their software platform has it issues.

That wouldn't be awful weren't it for the simple fact that I had changed to a different mail server some time ago. I just found a mailbox full with GMR mail! D'oh!
I noticed I stopped getting mails from GMR to remind me to play my turn. You mean replay those turns? That does not seem like a viable solution. Not that my folk at Masochistic Nuebla Zembla would do anything different but for you guys on the main land of the spears and atheïsm... that may be a different ballgame.

It was 800kb already at turn 18. Reverting essentially means starting over then. Where did you see a file this size is corrupt? To me it makes some sense that a file grows when we get more cities and units. I do agree the jumps in size for this save are big, but I have no clue whether this is normal. Never played another Civ V mp game and I haven't played an SP after reinstalling my PC so I have no material to compare.

So I notice there's a save waiting for me, load up civ5 in dx10 mode by default, obviously loading hotseat saves in dx10 still doesn't work for me, rage a bit, civ crashes after 10 minutes of loading screen, rage some more, push esc, game closes, rage on, go to bed.

I'll be on holiday, I've enabled holiday mode. I don't see how GMR would allow for subs.
I'll be on holiday, I've enabled holiday mode. I don't see how GMR would allow for subs.
I think the easiest way to implement a substitute player is to surrender and have your sub take over your civ on the GMR-site. I don`t think this route makes for any collateral damage.
