Whether or not you believe civ5 to be a game worth to play or not, with the release of the upcoming Gods&Kings expansion (http://www.2kgames.com/blog/civilization-v-expansion-pack-announced) Civ5 will have religion in it.

Fans of Civilization V have been begging me for an answer to this question for quite some time: will Civilization V get an expansion pack?

Today I am extremely excited to tell you all that yes, it will! Sid Meier's Civilization V: Gods & Kings is currently slated for a late Spring 2012 release.

It will come as no surprise to those of you who are familar with expansion packs for previous Civilization games that Gods & Kings will add more techs, units, buildings, Wonders, and playable Civilizations. But what about the big brand new game elements that will change the way you conquer the world? Let me lay it out for you:

Tons of New Stuff. I know I just mentioned it, but I want to draw attention to just how many new things we've got here: 27 new units, 13 new buildings, 9 new wonders, and 9 new playable civilizations. Among the new civilizations are the Netherlands (William I, Prince of Orange), the Celts (Boudicca), and the Mayans (Pacal the Great).

Religion. That's right; quite possibly the most requested major addition to the game is coming in the Gods & Kings expansion. Using the new "Faith" resource, you'll be able to found your own religion and grow it from a simple Pantheon of the Gods to a world-spanning fully-customized religion.

Reworked Combat System. The expansion has a reworked combat system along with an AI that places more emphasis on balanced army composition. Among the changes to the combat system is the addition of melee naval units, which will force you to really rethink the way you execute your naval assaults.

Enhanced Diplomacy, with Espionage. In addition to being able to establish embassies with your rival civilizations, spies will now be an important part of how you conduct your foreign affairs. Surveilling foreign cities, stealing advanced techs, and garnering influence with city-states are some of the things you'll be able to do with this new powerful mechanic.

New City-States. With religion being added to the game, it only made sense to introduce Religious city-states which will interact with your religion in special ways. In addition, Mercantile city-states will be attractive for those of you who love to grow your civilization's treasury. All city-states will use the greatly expanded quest system, making city-states more dynamic and diplomatic victories more challenging, while decreasing the importance of gold when dealing with city-states.

New Scenarios. Three new scenarios will be coming in Civilization V: Gods & Kings. Experience the fall of Rome, explore the medieval era, and my personal favorite: a unique scenario in a Victorian science-fiction setting.

So there you have it. What do you think? I'm sure you guys have tons of questions, so come on over to our forums and let us know! Or if you'd prefer, you can also reach us on Twitter or Facebook. We'll be reading all of your questions!

Oh, and the dutch.

Civ 3 and 4 have taught a couple of things.
A) don't buy anything until the first patch out.
b) skip the fist expansion, there will be another one a few months later that will include the first one.

I do agree with barbu1977, but still it looks like a great improvement. :)

They changed that slightly with civ4, in that they left some of the scenarios out. Of course you could probably just redownload them and most of the scenarios they included on the final expansion pack were created at cfc anyways!

Not sure, looks like a big step towards Civ4 fan requests. Main question is whether they will fix MP, PB, PBEM, hot seat. So far, it does not get better despite all the claims. People have to use some hacked VPN client(s) to be able to play, save, and report MP and there is no trace of PB or PBEM. And hot seat is bugged to the point of ridiculous. Single player is not what makes the game interesting to me, I've had enough of this with Civ1, Civ2, and Civ3.

It seems other mp Playstyles apart from the steam lobby are low on the priority list. I fear we won't see the return of pbem anytime soon, which is à pity cause it suits a game like civ really well. It won't happen that i'll spend 30 hours straight on an internet mp game, i need that chopper into bitesized pieces :)

I won't be buying this the day it is released, maybe in some holiday sale.

If they get the combat system right, then (after the first patch is out), I might buy CIiv5 finally. But of course only if I got a new machine until then...but that is planned anyway in the next few months.

In Civ3 and 4, I also skipped the first expansion pack, but whereas with Civ3 you were able to load saves from PTW, Civ4 warlords games couldn't be played with BtS. But that was not a big problem for me...

I have to see it to believe it, I think 1 UPT is just too complex for the cpu too feel as subtle as giant SoD. It can be better with simple priorities (heck, enough games that got it to work). Although I haven't played multiplayer and don't intend to, I think 1 UPT is suited for human vs human on small maps. At least it takes the game away from a "my stack of doom is bigger than yours" contest.

What I find to be most interesting is that they want to make dealing with CS less to do with money. That's a good thing, but somehow I have the idea the game will be even easier if it's not about money. Usually I found myself without CS in the endgame because the AI bought them all.

Also PP, about that bitesized chopper...

Yeah, that's what you get when you post from your iPad. I already had to correct half the words and apparently Apple feels 'the' should always be 'THE' and 'a' should always be 'à', god knows why. But the chopper slipped through, I think it would be nice for

Remobing day brightens up everyons day. Unlike the price of apple products.

No, remobing day was entirely my own creation.

I might pick it up during a holiday sale, definitely not on day 1.

It's the queues at the start of the day which cause it.

I came across this article on Destructoid (http://www.destructoid.com/pax-have-some-faith-in-civilization-v-gods-kings-225436.phtml), which gives a nice overview of what G&K will bring. As usual there's the mention of "better AI"

One change I like is that it's going to be more difficult to gain favor with city states. Now all you have to do is stockpile cash, buy a mercantile cs and turn the excess food into specialists, gain more gold than you spent in the process and then proceed to win on deity. This makes that the whole game just revolves around gold and not much else. With G&K, you'd have to perform some tasks to gain favor with a CS, so perhaps the game will (finally) get an additional layer of strategic depth.

Besides that there will be religion and espionage, which will work similarly to culture. I don't feel this adds strategic depth, just more options. Options are nice, but it doesn't make the game better.

It might make the game more entertaining though, and that's what civ5 is: entertainment. That's definately not a bad thing, and I think it's a pity not more of you give this game a chance.

I play civ V a lot. And I like it!

But nowhere near any of the previous editions. As it is, it is simply the "least best" of the series. All civ editions had their ways to exploit whatever features. So I don't really care about this money trick. What's really bad is the AI...., yup an open door, but it is really, really, really crap. I've read an article on CFC which explains why and it appears to be the non-stacking idea which is too hard to chew for the AI.

Espionage and faith seem to refresh the game enough for me to buy G&K. I still find civ5 to be highly amusing, but it's not difficult enough to keep me playing for long. This shakes things up a bit.

Not really excited about it though

Amazon seems to have it cheapest for UK. £12.99 compared to £17.99 on steam. Don't know what € prices are though.
