CivWorld (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/civworld), the Facebook game that is supposed to bring some meaning to both Facebook and the civ franchise, has started it's alpha fase. The helpful CDZ team was blatantly ignored. So, CDZ is now ignoring CivWorld.
;)
Anyway, how could a Civ game possibly need any alpha- or betatesters?
yeah, normally they let you buy the game first before you can beta test.
Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn :)

I don't get it.
There's been a post on CFC from 2kgreg announcing that those who sign up with Team CFC will get into the closed beta.

Honestly, I don't see much to miss.

btw, first comment: "FUCK FACEBOOK GAMES" [lol]
Looks like Traviam. Review on IGN was extremely positive, claiming this to be the best Facebook game to date.
We'll see. Well I won't as I dont have a facebook account, trying hard to become an old fart ignoring modern day technology :)
I got into the closed beta! Have played day now. It looks fun, but not something I will continue playing as it is. Main reason is the several civilizations are not equally divided which of course kills all competitiveness

I had forgotten all about this civworld business til I got the email today. Worth it or no?
+1 to everything kc said: just got the email as well.
Same here! But the login server is too busy. http://straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif
So are we in as a group or individually?
Is Facebook registration required for this?
I'm in too, woke up to the e-mail this morning. I've not tried to log in yet but I guess if we want to play as friends that's up to us.
@Beam, yes Facebook registration is needed, it's a facebook game. Not that you have to give Facebook any info you don't want it to have or use it for anything else.
Hm, will never stay never or is the game good enough to never say never again? A Facebook registration is not exactly what I am looking for.
Looks like we have to join a civilization to form a team, has anyone done so?
I haven't been able to log in yet. [bosd]
The server is continuously too busy.
I've got in OK, got disconnected a couple of times though.
Got disconnected and now can't get in. It looks like I'm in game 138 as CatherineB though.

I also got in.
I checked it 2 minutes from work. I'm going to have to get back to it later tonight as, at first, it feels more like warcraft than civ.
Decided to give it a try. I seems however beta subscription is closed and one can only be invited by a current beta player. Any takers? TIA. :)
When one of us completes a game we are able to invite a friend so can send you an invite then.
if the game is ok, I'll consider going facebook. :)

I got an invite, but since I can't scroll down on the page I can't click accept while browsing with my phone.

Okay, I played this a bit and I'm already done with it. It's just a stupid farmville clone.
@Beam: I can now send someone an invite but they have to be a friend on facebook. So you'll have to search for me (Furiey should find me, same Avatar and I'm CatherineB in CivWorld) and send a friend request.
I was in game 138 with a group of people who actually took time to plan. I believe we have won the game quite convincingly however there appears to be no notification other than that I can now invite friends and the game does not appear in completed games. This game was a good one, also playing game 154 (I think) and no one discusses anything in the Civ I'm in, really frustrating as a result.

This. Stopped playing after 5 minutes.
Not a single video game can be judged on five minutes of gameplay.
Just started another game (179) with the same group of people from game 154. We're in a small closed border Civ (Spanish) and it will be interesting to see if we can play as a team. The other games without teamwork have been pointless.

Well when it is a clone of Farmville and I have seen Farmville played (by my mother no less), sure it can. I read up on the endgame aspect after playing, and there is none. The object is to get medals and such and that doesnt seem fun to me. There is no real combat. The review I read was by Dale in the beta forums. The push seems to be to buy CivBucks.
On another note, is anyone getting viruses in their inbox from Akots' SBCglobal email addy? I got 2 in two days.
Well, I'm not with sbc or AT&T for that matter for 8 months and they closed the account immediately after I disconnected. I guess it has been hacked by some eastern hacker. The account was empty (no personal or other info, all cleared by me) but there was an address book which I could not clear. I'm getting these e-mails as well but they happily go into spam folder.

@Furiey, I''l try the Facebook friend option tonight @home.
@killercane: ok, reviews count. ;)
What a bloody shame, though. This had such potency!

Sure it can. In my C64 days I used to go through so many games I barely had 5 mins per game to see if I liked it.
Sure it can. ...
Certainly. These days, it has to look good as a must. This CivWorld looks ugly.
