Thinking this would be restarted, I decided to test if barbs were on. Now I actually now they are on an will probably lose my capitol in 2 turns. Dunno for sure, as barbs sometimes move away.....
Apart from that, a publication of the specs would be fine anyway.

Check f8, anything not there is standard so barbs are on.
Also what barbs are you seeing? warriors don't appear for a long time, especially on noble unless they've been added.

I figured I could enter a goody hut with my useless worker..... In hindsight I should have stayed away, but it appeared a nice way to find out if barbs are on.... Really dumb, I must say.
Well, as SilentConfusion has also finished his 2nd move without posting, I suggest we indeed move on. Luckily for me, the barb moved away.

I would not say any of them are shocking or particularly bad. And they all are more or less equal overall but some starts have better commerce potential, some better production ect. I certainly didn't make them mirror images as no one asked for that.

A month ago or so, we've changed our internet subscription. Same provider though. We now have TV, telephone and internet in one package.
Consequently, we got a new modum. All worked fine immediately, but after a week, we lacked internet for a day and a half, without a proper reason.
This happened this week too. This morning, it simply worked again.....

No error messages but the PC wanted to install a Windows update (the fix for the .lnk vulnerability) so rebooted anyway.

Another thing. This a game with limited participants,most, if not any, of them regular CDZ-ers. So, why is it so incredibly slow?
I missed a turn or two recently due to being busy.
SilentConfusion has missed a couple of turns in a row now...

The general rule for me was 5 turns and then I start winging.
I think I crashed the game. I connected to the game and logged in, but waiting for the window that shows the download progress took ages. Then I clicked on "go back" and tried to connect again, but that didn't happen.
I was able to log in just before, so game's still up I guess.

That happened to me about a week ago, i just left it an hour and game back. I'm not sure if that helped but it did work when i got back!
It did a full virus scan this morning, that could have slowed things down.
Next time do it overnight. ;)
It usually does, and was having another attempt to do it when I went upstairs so I'm not sure what has interruped it. It all seems to be getting rather slow to connect though, so I'll give the machine a re-boot to clear things out.

I've had a PM from Donovan Zoi on the other site that he's willing to take over from Silent Confusion.
Edit: I've found out why I had problems with the virus checker - the secondary hard drive on the pc has failed (only left in there so I could copy stuff off when I upgraded to XP on a new drive) and the virus checker was desperately trying to check a dead drive. I've currently got it excluded from virus checking and the machine is running again, but when I have time I will have to take the server down for a short time to remove the drive. Glad I had already copied everything off that I wanted!

Found it down this morning. Have disabled the dead hard drive now so Windows doesn't access it, but am getting the internet game service is unabable when I try to load pitboss. If it doesn't clear quickly I will transfer the game to my new machine while I sort it.
Any objections to kicking SilentConfusion?
Does anyone feel we need to give him more time?
If not I'll kick him.
It seems the main MTDG may be down with the same error.

Loaded from the barbu autosave so 8 hours to go and barbu and SC still to play.
Will give that time for any more comments about the SC situation and if all in agreement will kick him in the new turn.
IMO kick this turn unless he shows up in the meantime.
I've PMd barbu as I don't know if it has lost his moves this turn. I'll give him some chance to check that.
As an interested observer my view is since SC hasn't told anyone he'll be missing turns then i don't see a problem with kicking him at this point. That's why we have open threads after all

Well, I tried to join the game but Holy Rome was not available onscreen. Is this because the AI has already ended its turn, or is there another reason?
That picture shows you clicking on the celts...
It also implies that there are no such things as the holy romans, He Reiter being Mongolian.
Charlemagne appears to have disappered from the list, we only have 8 civs listed not 9.
It is listed in the Pitboss screen, it says AI where it would say disconnected or give the ping number for a human play and the kick button is now greyed out.
I don't think it can just be because the AI has taken the turn as otherwise you would never be able to claim it as the AI immediately takes its turn.
Any ideas anyone?
Did you set 'kick to AI' when you started the game? perhaps your kicking destroyed the civ
I really can't remember, anyway to find out now?
The Civ still appears to be there in game as AI.
Inside the game, there doesn't seem to be a Holy Roman either - unless kicking it to AI made it like a single-player unknown/unshown AI until contacted.
I've downloaded Gyathaar's save converter which will allow me to change the options in the save file, so if I haven't set takeover AI I will take the save down and set it as soon as everyone (Matrix) is out of the game.
Scrap that idea, saveconvertor only works with vanilla and Warlords not BTS.
Game is back up (but still with the AI).
I have found a link to a dll that changes the takeover AI setting, unforutnatley the link no longer works. I've sent PMs out to the people that posted it so hopefully we'll get something.
T_Hawk has replace the file for me so have downloaded and replaced the appropriate dll.
The Holy Roman Empire is now available to claim, but you will all get a message that your game files do not match the host's. Just click through the message.
Once DZ has claimed the civ I will swap the dlls back so we no longer get the message.

Thanks to everyone for your quick response to this. Looks like were good to go once you change the settings back.
I've swapped back the dlls and no more error message. If we have to kick anyone again I'll switch them round again before I do.
Hopefully I can now stop spamming this thread for a while at least...

It has been pointed out to me by a few players that there are some tiles in the game that are a bit loopy[crazyeye]
I have gone back and done an inspection of the whole map and this problem exists with only two tiles in the game. The issue it seems is that these tiles are both floodplains and grasslands resulting in an output of 5 food on the unimproved tile.
I personally don't believe it alters the balance of the game in any significant way as its is only provides a couple extra food in total (similar to a resource). Also these two tiles are not owned by the same person and they are not deep in someones territory but in areas of competition.
But its only fair to let all the players know the situation so you can all decide how big an issue it is for all of you and if you want to try and do something about it. I do apologise for any inconvience this may cause, I was unaware that this issue could even occur and the tiles don't look any different in appearence to a normal grassland tile.

I had this happen in a map I did when Civ 4 came out, I changed some floodplain desert to grass and didn't remove the floodplain overlay. It puzzled me no end until I realised that floodplain was a seperate setting from desert/grass/plains.
My feeling is we can all see them, good luck to those that manage to settle them.

Neither did I until this glitch was pointed out. The problem is a floodplain on grassland does not look different from any other regular grassland tile.
Restarted. Another network socket error.
I've had to re-start the game. Pitboss was not responding although no error message. Unfortunately the most recent autosave (mine) appears to be corrupted and makes the game not responding immediately on load. I'll go back to the previous one, hopefully that is OK. Machine currently re-booting, I'll post when done.
The previous autosave also hangs the game, so I've had to go back to Stapel's.
Whoever was calling themselves Francois Roy will have to replay as will I.
Game is now up.

I know this sucks, but I would like to reqest a reaload.
I had my son in my hand when I oppened my turn. He pressed on the spacebar to select meditation as my free tech from the oracle. (I did not know you could select with spacebar, I did had him away from Enter and the arrow keys). Needless to say I had way better free tech to choose.
I understand that other players migth have different views on reload and therefore if a majority opposes, I will suck it up.
No one else has yet played so we can go back to the beginning of the turn autosave.
I held off reloading to give people chance to comment, but so far no comment and most people have played their turns. Views please people, I don't want the turn to roll over without something on this.

I'm having internet connection problems at the moment.
Cable to our whole are went down just after midnight and is now back although intermittent. If problems continue and people can't log in I can extend the turn timer, I'll check what has happened before the game rolls over.
Been trying to get in for ~an hour now. It's not an issue for me if the turn rolls over providing stapel hasn't moved his troops into any offensive positions but if he has and i still can't get in later then i'll request a reload :)

Should be back in action again.
All te re-starting of my modem and router trying to get internet connection earlier to day seems to have caused the router to allocate different internal IP addresses to all the PCs etc, so my port forwarding was sending it to the wrong computer. Bet my printer in no longer mapped propery either...
Azza has not logged in for 6 turns...

No but he hasn't logged in to another game, he isn't banned at cfc but has not been there for 5 days either.
Without meaning to sound like i'm beating a dead horse but azza has now gone two weeks without logging in (14 turns) can we not kick him and if he comes back then allow him to reclaim the civ otherwise put it on offer for anyone else that wants to play?
Just kick me, I have no interest in Civ anymore. I'd set myself to AI but I uninstalled almost immediately after copping a 4month ban from CFC.

Thanx for the thought. Since I wont be playing in the next 10 hours, I don't mind skipping my last turn. No harm done. ( I try to have orders 1 turn in advance in case this happens.)

Yep, Stapel got to cats just that bit quicker than I could. My apologies for missing a couple of turns this week, Birthday week and tonnes of work but it shouldn't detract from Stapel bulldozering me, it wouldn't have made a difference if i'd hit enter.
I think the one mistake that blew up your game, BC, was the early 10-turns warning treaty with Stapel. When I took over, the war would've been winnable with chariots instead of settlers. That being said, good effort, and yeah catapults were the major turnaround.

Really busy at the moment and only have a couple of time slots I can play each day. Add being overly paranoid about inadvertantly double moving so I like to wait until a few people have moved before I move again, which at the moment seems to be putting me last. Should have another chance to play tonight so hopefully I will break the run.

Tried to access the game, and it gave me the rolling "connecting..." message.
Next time I will be able to play will be at 730am EST. If this is fixed before that time and there is enough time left in the turn to let it run until then, there will be no need to pause. Otherwise, please do so.
If not fixed by 730 am EST, I probably won't be able to play until 4-5pm EST. Sorry for the delay... :(
Found it down this morning. DZ's autosave is 1k rather than the usual 210k at the moment so it looks like it crashed when DZ tried to connect. I'll have to go back to barbu's autosave.
That gives 3:50 on the clock which will take it to 13:20 ish GMT
Is that enough? If not how do I give longer? Pressing the turn timer button allows me to change the turn timer but doesn't seem to change the time left on the current turn and there doesn't appear to be a puase button.
Barbu - please check if you need to replay.
I've paused it in-game with 1:26 to go to give everyone a chance to play.

It appears so. I got disconnected from the game, but that has happened before so I thought nothing of it. Had to run a few errands, so I didn't try to log back in.
It seems something happened at 4 am ish today. All PCs rebooted and I lost internet connection. Got it back now, but Pitboss pc has not been happy this morning, seems to be running stably now, I hope that will continue. 8 hours or so on the clock. Let me know if anyone needs a pause.

I think having a diplo screen when the game is on pause causes some problem (IIRC it happened to me in a past game)
Not sure what the cause is, but the game's been down for some time now.
Game was down this morning when I got up and unfortunately so was my internet and I had to leave early so couldn't get it going again or notify you (maybe I will have to set up internet access on my phone).
Game is back up but it took me a long time to connect to check it so not sure what is going on. It's still paused and those that still need to play still need to play and grahmium please check your moves - if you need it unpaused to get past the diplo screen please post.
And how much longer are we going to wait? I'm inclined to say they've had long enough to play now. But then again, I'm really impatient...

Is there anything going on at 4am (UK time) on the computer? it seems the game is having problems when I try to play at that time.
Not that I know of, sometimes it's just a network socket that has been closed so pitboss disconnects and continues running but not letting anyone connect, other times pitboss closes completely. It seems to be weekdays though so maybe my ISP has picked a time when no one in the UK is likely to be doing anything. I've switched of autoupdate and things like that on that pc so it won't be that.
So perhaps we shouldn't be nagging so much about the game being down, but simply try some time later.
(Although sometimes one might only have just one moment of the day available.)

Don't blame me, I usualy just try to get a second time in just before going to bed.
No, please keep letting me know, I save the game before I got to bed and check in the morning to make sure it's running usually but sometimes forget. Also if it's gone down and you can't get in to play we need to arrange something.

Sorry seriously down.
I lost internet around 22:30 last night just before I went to olay my turn and have only just got it back.
Game is now running with 9 hours to go. I can play now, that just leave barbu to play - sorry. If you need more time ask and someone can pause.

It's been down and now up again from Socralynnek's autosave.
I tried to get it running on one on the other PCs but they are all wireless and it dropped the connection everytime.
I had a bad night last night and heard the machine re-booting what seemed like every 15 minutes untill it got stuck with a boot disc failure (it's less than a year old - the disc not the PC). It's started fine this morning again and I'll be out all day, but tonight I will take the laptop upstairs and wire that into the network and get the game running on that until I can get the old PC running reliably again. Why it is only doing it at night I do not know.
I probably won't be able to play for a while until I get a place for myself in Belfast, so I'm gonna ask NHL to be my replacement until further notice.

Game ran OK all day but I have now moved my laptop up where it can go on the wired network and transferred it to that. Lets see if that stays up all night.

Timely bump - do we need to make arrangements for a pause over Christmas? I'll be away and will have to hope the game stays up and will have to persuade my father to let me install Civ 4 on his PC (I would usually take my laptop but...) so I can play. Socralynnek has mentioned in another thread that he will be away but I don't know if that will cause a problem for this game. Anyone else?

Well, if a third of us is going to be unavailable, I would rather we pause the game. I am personally okay with a break that matches socralynnek's absence if that works for everyone.

I am back. Maybe (I don't know how much work that is), you can start the game and set the turn timer to a week or so. And then, when everyone played switch back to a day.
I'll start it when I get in this evening.
Game up and running with 7 hours on the clock. If that's not enough for now please let me know.
I just realized: I did a "double turn" while subbing for Matrix and he's at war, although nothing interesting happened on the military side: the combat and moves were all done on the first turn, after that nothing moved much. Unless an ICBM was going to fall on a certain city this turn, nothing will be affected - but still, sorry for that, and I wanted to put it up here for transparency.

It was not about you or about missing turns. It's about DM-agreements. Your opponents logged in rather late, apparently.
And the game has already paced up!

I tried very hard not to do a DM which meant some very late play!
Indeed I did. There is basically only one moment of the day on which I can play. (i.e. around 17:00 GMT)
We know who to blame. ;)
