We should probably get someone to check it still, such as I would say we should start with a couple of settlers, couple of workers and a couple of warriors to give us all something to do at the start.

You and akots could always team up if both of you are having problems? Feels wrong having you host pitboss and then not playing! :)

Furiey
25-04-2010, 15:42
That would probably work. I seems silly being out of work and struggling with time but I'm currently going through a feeling very guilty stage and really have to get my finger out and get a decent CV out there and circulating. The old PC will be on and folding anyway. I'm an absolutely awful Civ 4 player, hoping to pick up some tips in the MTDG to improve my game, but I've never seemed to gel with it in the same way I did Civ 3.

The Cut more Crap MP just finished so we might get a bit more interest in this MP game, maybe we can see if anyone not looking here would like to join in as well.

I'm happy to play since i have more time now but since i've already offer to help out with the map i'll honour that if no one else is willing to

Well we got 9 players, so how are we going to do civs, random or choice. Also there was a suggestion of a fractal map is everyone happy with that?

I'm happy with a fractal map.

I also don't care about chosen leaders versus random leaders. Do we want restricted leaders or unrestricted?

Furiey
19-07-2010, 14:28
I always find having a leader from a different civ terribly confusing, Ghandi of the Aztecs? So would prefer to stick with the standard leaders. Fractal map is fine and I would be happy to go with random civ.

Azza
19-07-2010, 16:03
Fractal map is fine, random saves me from having to pick a civ.

socralynnek
19-07-2010, 17:03
Yeah, I am fine with random civ, fractal, restricted leaders and no tech trading as well.
I prefer "No city razing" but could also live without.

Stapel
19-07-2010, 18:58
I really do prefer a smaller map, with wars starting rather sooner than later. Civ V is around the corner and it would imho be a possible show stopper if the game drags on for months after that.

Short and ful of action!

BCLG100

Restricted for me otherwise I don't mind. I do think standard sized map but starting off with perhaps 3 settlers, 3 workers and 3 scouts/warriors. Though I can't remember if were getting a map check so if not then sod it :)

Well i said i would.

Also since its fractal, there can be people isolated pre astronomy on seperate island, did you want galley routes for all.

And isn't the usual CDZ start 2 settlers, 1 worker, 2 warriors?

Robi D
20-07-2010, 06:37

I don't really care, as long as I KNOW what it is!

Robi D
20-07-2010, 11:14
Well from reading the thread i can see 9 players;
BCLG, Stapel, Ynnek, Azza, Furiey, Silentconfusion, Barbu, Graham and Beam.

I had a chance to play around with the map settings today and i'd propose for a 9 player fractal map a small size with low seas. From that i'll be adding some land to make sure everyone at least has galley routes so as not to be isolated. I'll also minimise useless land (ice, desert) and make sure everyone is spaced out evenly and has the basic resourses in their area. That should give everyone enough room for 4-5 cities before bumping into others which with a 2 settler start will be filled out fairly quickly.

I also suggest that everyone should start with the 6 base tech, which would speed up the start and more importantly make sure no one is left with a worker scratching their arse while they have to research a tech to give them something to do. but i'll leave it up to you guys to decide

I assume the standard cdz no tech trades, but i need to know about city razing to start working on the map, the other stuff i can add in or take away after. Also i have this week off work so i could have the map ready to go for the weekend, otherwise it will probably take me a couple of weeks to do.

socralynnek
20-07-2010, 11:25
I guess, with small size, "no city razing" should be the way to go. With far stretched empires that might be very tedious, but with small sizes it helps defending whereas normally the war-wagers would be in favor.

Azza
20-07-2010, 12:04

I'm not sure I like the start with 6 base tech thing. It decreases the advantage of those tarring with myst and aiming for a religion. How about everyone strts with five and those starting with myst don't get hunting?

grahamiam
20-07-2010, 17:27
I'd rather start with no techs other than what you get with the leader or just do an advanced start at the middle ages. But that's just imho, I'll play whatever the group wants.

fair point, how about once the civs are assigned everyone gets a chance to name one extra base tech so they wont be left with idle workers?

grahamiam

SilentConfusion
21-07-2010, 09:32
I have to (EDIT: "to" = "no") problem with playing the starting techs. I understand the issue of starting with a worker and quite possibly getting a random leader that can't improve tiles right away. So I don't care however it's done.

If I get a setup where I can't build anything, do I use my Worker to scout a little cautiously? I'm also not opposed to not starting with a Worker, but basically I don't care about the setup at all. The challenge is to play whatever you've got to the best of your abilities. That's all that matters to me. Hopefully that means I end up putting some serious beat-down on my enemies, but if I go out early doing the best I could I also don't mind. Perhaps I learned something and the next time my best will be a little better.

All of that is a long way of saying: Whatever settings are chosen are fine with me.

Robi D
21-07-2010, 17:39
Ok most (possibly all) people don't like the extra starting techs so thats in the bin. Most who have gone with no allowing city razing or were happy either way so the will be No city razing allowed.

I've generated a map and have started tweaking it. Hope to finish by the weekend. I can tell you who you will have as your leaders since i've done the random draw.

Stapel - Churchill
Graham - Pericles
Furiey - Boudica

To start the whining a bit, both my UU and UB are water based (And I am the only one). Can I request not to start in the midle of a continent?

Unless it is revenge from the last pitboss I set up.

(Boudica is the female Leader of the Celts?)

BCLG100

What level is this being played on btw and also barbs?

Beam
21-07-2010, 20:58
Ppl, I'm quite unsure if I can / will play this MP cause my BtS installation just screwed up :( and:
a) The errormessage can have multiple causes
b) It can only be solved thru Windoze and access there in the bootmanager is screwed as well
c) I'll be on holiday soon
d) I've planned to buy new gear in september in order to play Civ 5.

So my slot basically is available for the first serious taker.

No problems, never done the map before so it was interesting. Although it will be nice to see lots of regularly updated spoilers:D

I emailed the map to Furiey, once she has up and running we will start a new thread for the game.

And Matrix has kindly filled in for Beam so the leaders are;

Stapel - Churchill
Graham - Pericles
Furiey - Boudica
SilentCon - Charlemagne
BCLG - De Gaulle
Azza - Augustus
Matrix - Cyrus
Barbu - Joao
Ynnek - Genghis

Good luck to all. I think with the small map both space and domination are equally viable options, should be fun watching you play.... if you post spoilers that is;)

I'm getting a "the password you entered is invalid" error message and I can't get in.

Matrix
24-07-2010, 02:47
That probably means you didn't turn on "simultaneous moves". The password is a bit annoying if we have to fill that in every turn, so when you restart, please omit that. ;)

barbu1977
24-07-2010, 04:07
Ok I had not seen the PM with the password. It worked fine. (apart for not being able to move.)

Robi D
24-07-2010, 06:17
I recall a game a while ago where the units would not move. It had something to do with how the map was loaded.

I think the right way to do it is to start a multiplayer game with a custom scenario. If you put the map into the Worldbuild folder in the saves section it should be available. Beam or Matrix would be able to confirm it as they have hosted before

Stapel
24-07-2010, 10:32

Furiey
24-07-2010, 12:01
Got up this morning and found the PC had restarted itself, but sounds like we need a restart. I started the game as Robi said but didn't click simultaneous turns so that may be it. I'll give it another go.

Furiey
24-07-2010, 12:22
All the PCs and the microwave reset themselves sometime this morning so it looks like I had a power cut/glitch.

I've restarted, without the password at the beginning and this time no one has the * on their names an I can move the units so it looks good to go!

I've left Civstats as it was so any Civs claimed there will still be claimed.

At least all the port fowarding part of the setup worked first time.

For the second time (and hopefully the last): claim your Civs!
