So after mauers whining and complaining i've started a thread.

I'm the Mongols, can't remember which right now but either way i dont particularly like the traits as i'd have preferred either financial or philosophical.

Capital- production city
http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/9698/civ4screenshot0043wm3.jpg
Would have probably be even better if i'd started with either agriculture or mining or fishing but alas it wasn't to be and instead i had hunting and something else as equally useless probably the wheel.

With Horses nearby, care of my other city this will be my primary military production area for a fair portion of the game. i.e. until i find somewhere better.

Second City- stone/gnp city
http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/410/civ4screenshot0045oc5.jpg

I'm two turns from great wall, hopefully should get it, not so much as protection from barbs cos with this many people there wont be that many but the early great spy will be handy, the first one being sent to explore mr akots land and then plant himself down. The second one will probably be kept or sent elsewhere. Either way the plan is to conquest a bit and steal my tech so i might even send it over to Ian, i'll see how i feel. I'm also considering the pyramids but that might first of all make me a wonder hog- i.e. a target secondly i wouldn't build it normally so am probably being influenced from having stone.

3rd City- Horse City/possible future gnp city
http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/7923/civ4screenshot0044ep0.jpg

After exploring the map slightly more i'd have placed this a tile north east but no matter im comfortable with where it is.

Nitro, future conquest
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/4353/civ4screenshot0047sc5.jpg
Nitro cleverly rammed a load of troops in this city early on, 3 archers including one with city defence means nothings happening there until cats.

So what im going to do when i attack is simply ignore the city. My Keshiks ignore terrain movement costs so i'll send them over the mountains and attack his capital which i guess is weaker.

Akots- I asked about peace with him, he seemed non commital so he's been added to the list
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/4913/civ4screenshot0048ib1.jpg
He has copper and BW as i've seen an axeman wandering about, i'll be getting a chariot going quickly just incase. I'll also get a couple of archers up as i don't know how quickly i'll be founding another city over copper.

Barbu- I've got a peace deal with him, i can't remember exactly what but i think its 5 turn warning on war but it might be 10 turns, either way i plan on strengthening it so i can get some help taking down akots
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/3930/civ4screenshot0049go5.jpg
So far he's my main rival for GNP and has quite a population edge over me but i do seem to be one of a few with a third city up and going.

Finally IanDC
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/5345/civ4screenshot0050kf3.jpg
My Scout got stuck in his borders but he kindly let me declare war and move it out, we then went back to peace.

Ynnek has writing as i've seen a warrior of his roaming about but he's got another thing coming if he thinks he's looking in my lands for the time being! especially as i have no idea what direction he is in.

Research
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/7622/civ4screenshot0051pr0.jpg

I got BW for the tree chopping not so much for the slavery just yet or definatly not the copper. I hope to get the Ger's going/whipped/chopped before i get archery, with current research this'll take ~3 or 4 turns. Then i'll be bleeding myself to get them keshiks out before nitro has the chance to build spears.

http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/9007/civ4screenshot0052de7.jpg
So im doing fairly reasonable in score so far, the only concern is my military, i have a grand total of 2 warriors and a scout, only one warrior is defending my homeland- it could go badly wrong but i have confidence that no-one will attack me just yet, i think my reputation as a warmongerer might go ahead of me on this occasion but who knows i could be dead in 3 turns?

Espionage
http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/4282/civ4screenshot0053ui0.jpg
Somehow i met Barbu first hence why he has all the espionage but i changed that to nitro to see his demo, when/if i get my GS i'll leave it on nitro but send it to akots.

I think thats about it so far.

Yeah ok, so you slightly beat me out for best spoiler.

To give people the full spoiler experience i've chosen to include all my diplomacy as well, i'll cut bits out if i don't think their relevant (i.e. personal) but it'll also help me keep track of whats going on.

Anyways mine and barbu's convo so far!

Hey,

Akots is offering me a similar deal so i imagine it is to go after IanDC.

Well we can extend the deal after that but yeah 10 turns decleration can stay incase we forget! or whatever.

He's trying to get a good portion of land from me in this deal as well but i'm quite happy to bargain/fight him for it!

I am not so aware of the west of you tbh, i have explored up to iandc on my east and my scout is coming back now so will probably head that way. So theres no rush on that front, i doubt i'll be settling another city too sharpish.

I'm quite happy to sort out some form of defensive agreement, i don't want you to go breaking treaties but if war was to break out we could supply each other with troops? Or has akots arranged some form of treaty about that? he is normally quite extensive when he writes those treaties of his!

We could also have first refusal on trading goods when we finally can trade, so long as what is offered is of equal value, for instance gold for silver, fish for clams?

Do you have anything else with anybody so far? i've just said hello to nitro and ian let me declare war to move my scout out!

BC
I would be happy to extend a peace treaty.

1000AD is cool with me. We should add a 10 turn war declaration after that date.

A border would also be cool. I must say that I will be building 1 city west of my current border.

Regarding Akots, I've just agreed on a 100 turn peace treaty and a border separation. I'm not very happy about it since he probably made this to go after IanDC. I hope Ian can survive.

I would agree on a deffensive protection pack between the two of us that would overrule my peace deal with Akots.

Hey,

Now we both know a bit more of the map i was thinking we could solidify this peace treaty a little more? what do you think?

Right now it stands at 5 (or is it 10?) turn warning of war but i suggest we extend that to an actual date. I was thinking perhaps 1000AD, its a fair way off but i have no plans to attack you but of course this date is negotiable if you want it to be?

We can also discuss lines of no settle/trading etc.

I also notice you've got akots on your border, what are your plans with regards to him if you don't mind me asking?

Mine and akots fun and associated games

akots of Korea

Hey akots,

Sorry for taking so long to reply to this, it was certainly not my intention to be rude, my pm box didnt tell me i had a pm and so i didn't realise that i had one. It was only be chance that i noticed that i had this!

Ah, yeah but who wouldnt want that spot, whereas if you got that spot theres very little my side where i could plant a city without support, perhaps draw up a border and we'll see if we can negotiate somewhat? im quite limited my side as about 5-10 tiles west is tundra and see whilst north west is a mountain range and directly north is Nitro.

Again, my apologies for not noticing this sooner!

Regards

My apologies were because i didnt notice that i had a pm for about a week!

Also i wont be updating this with every musing i have with someone ingame as that'll take ages!

Well its been awhile since my last update but nothing much happened due to me building etc and then the game came down for christmas so i'll update it now :)

So a bit of background first, in my initial post i noted how i was planning on pounding Nitro and how it would take me a set amount of time to accomplish this. Well i had my troops in position when it suddenly became apparent that Nitro was stopping/had stopped playing. I attempted to delay it for awhile until a replacement/sub could be found but it was getting to the point that if i didn't war i would have just wasted a large portion of the game so after Nitro was kicked to AI i took the decision to war with the AI. It was a quick war, as anticipated the Keshiks which i had produced were enough to take his capital city.

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/3973/civ4screenshot0064pd3.jpg

And what a nice capital city it is too, im very seriously considering making this city the Oxford/Wall street city of my empire but it depends whether i can find another city with slightly more land to use rather than sea.

As my initially built Keshiks were coming into Nitro's capital my Keshiks which i had built and then subsequently whipped another 6 in about 3 turns were approaching what i think was his second city but im not entirely sure.
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9139/civ4screenshot0065lq6.jpg

I took it with only the loss of two keshiks, which was pretty good when they were fighting a fortified promod archer on a hill, it looks like it should be a cracking city when i can get it up and running, especially early game. Those gold hills will help me maintain my empire certainly until courthouses.

Then came my lucky break i guess, with Nitro being kicked to AI i could afford to be lax with my scouting and take my time, as i had no idea where the final two cities were i was able to just send a charity wandering through his territory as my keshiks attacked. I quickly found his third city but somehow missed his fourth city (which turned out to be closer, perhaps he founded it in the interim)

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/7580/civ4screenshot0066za2.jpg

Not a brilliant city but should be able to support itself at least when it grows and also provide me with a couple of scientific specialists in the early game to keep research going.

So i pressed on to the final city, now this is where the delay occured, i forgot that no city razing was turned on, thus i decided to try and wait for it to grow as i wanted to keep it.
http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/397/civ4screenshot0067ih0.jpg

Eventually i got bored and just attacked as he only had a singular warrior in there and two workers, i didn't fancy him cramming an archer out and me having to worry about losing perhaps another troop.

So then the rest of my empire,
http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/4413/civ4screenshot0061es4.jpg

My capital city, still going strong, i've hired a couple of science specialists in it right now as presently i have nothing to build except a wall (gran/lib/rax/ger all done). I should have forges in a couple of turns which should allow me to grow it.

My Great wall city
http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/9205/civ4screenshot0062tu7.jpg

So this is building the Pyramids as before everything is already built and i chose to start a wonder rather than research as i felt that even if i miss it then i'll get quite a bit of gold but if i get it then i can run representation earlier and make a proper SE out of the situation.

http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/9775/civ4screenshot0063pi9.jpg

My Horse city, will probably become a reasonable commerce city as time progresses, thus far it is close to completing everything i have avaliable to build also, will switch to a forge after the granary and then if still nothing i'll change to either workers(cannot have too many of them!) or research!

I've lined up where i aim to be building cities once my economy has settled down slightly, these occur in three areas.

I have learned from Barbu that the island we are on is in the shape of an upside down T, after the destruction of Nitro i am effectivly in charge of one of the ends and so have as much time as i please to build up cities here.
http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/268/civ4screenshot0068ju1.jpg

I do however aim to get at least the one on the hill set up quickly as it looks an ideal spot for my GP farm, the other one should also give me access to copper whilst the final one is just a nice commerce city.

http://img74.imageshack.us/img74/3985/civ4screenshot0069vb5.jpg
My settlement treaty with akots means i cannot cross the river but i'll have to double check the borders situation, either way i aim to settle at least a couple of cities in this area.

Finally here
http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/7645/civ4screenshot0070ul6.jpg

Looks like it'll be a great commerce city but im just checking with Barbu its ok i plant here, i would like to keep Barbu as my close ally.

I've been trying to sound him out with regards to a war with akots, akots i think is my most dangerous opponent on this island (ynnek is more advanced but right now he is also further away). He has seemed quite receptive to the idea so far, i believe he is attempting to shore up his defences with ynnek first. I may also attempt to sign a treaty with ynnek soon as allthough he is far away i would like to not have to worry about him.

This is the situation which i can see on the island,
http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4228/civ4screenshot0075ay8.jpg

I have refused akots OB as i would like to limit his knowledge to my territory as much as possible. I am not entirely sure what is happening with his war with IanDC, it seems to have been occuring for awhile but i cannot see Ian having lost many/any cities so far, perhaps it is just a war of containment.

The war with nitro was also very good because it doubled the number of workers i have, whilst nitros land needs a bit of work this'll be great as it'll give me a boost in productivity when im sorting things out. I havent got much in the way of defensive troops currently as i have treaties with my nearest neighbours and do not anticipate much trouble for the time being.

http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/4857/civ4screenshot0074ta9.jpg

And here is the score card, from the people i have met thus far i am dominating,
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/8757/civ4screenshot0073jx4.jpg

However compare the pop percentage there and my total pop here
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/3708/civ4screenshot0071on4.jpg

I am 5th overall which leads me to believe that others do have a much greater pop than me, someone at least has a size 10 city which i can see from the demographics, i assume it is graham as it has the oracle in which would explain his larger score (wonder and tech boost)

In regards to everything else though it looks great, akots is about my equal in mfg but everything else i am beating my island members on (maybe not gnp as i don't have access to ynnek's demographics yet).

Currently all i am to do is to build up, also keep talking barbu into a war with akots, im quite happy for barbu to take much of the land and i shall just keep whatever i can find, so long as i have a line to IanDC and can take his if need be! :)

Quite the extensive spoiler there brat boy. Looks like you're doing really well, and I wouldn't be close to pulling off what you are. Two things: Another update as I've seen the score is changed quite a bit in your favor, and watch out for the pileup. Encourage war between the others on your continent.

So things are going pretty well now.

I finished the Great Library in my capital a few turns ago.
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5520/civ4screenshot0076rn5.jpg
Which coupled with representation has had a nice improvement on my GNP and i'm racing through those techs.

Em is really turning into a powerhouse city, its pretty much built everything it can do and is now just in the process of helping me fill in the spaces in my empire and building workers to get them cities up and running quicker.
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/9499/civ4screenshot0077zr4.jpg

Not so much production in Nels but a very fine commerce city, all of my cities are growing very well tbh, i've no worries about any of them not making their happiness caps.
http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9241/civ4screenshot0078ez1.jpg

I really like this city, the irrigation of the plains on the river before has enabled me to work the hammer tiles around the city but still grow at a very reasonable rate.
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/863/civ4screenshot0079gw1.jpg

This is probably my weakest city but even then it still pumps out a good enough commerce and mfg rate for it to be worthwhile.
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/3232/civ4screenshot0080dq7.jpg

Nitro's old capital is a very very nice commerce centre with a lot of food lying around for surplas GP hire, will probably be one of my main commerce cities as the game progresses.
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/9841/civ4screenshot0081tz0.jpg

I built the Moia Statues here as i felt that this would be the city which would have the greatest number of water tiles out of any i may build.
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/613/civ4screenshot0082rh4.jpg

This is one of my newer cities, right now Barbu's borders are pushing in on it but i feel that eventually these will be pushed back as i have a substantially better culture score than him
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/8337/civ4screenshot0083xr7.jpg

My newest city, founded this turn, partly as a buffer to akots civ but also partly to grab them furs nearby.
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/5884/civ4screenshot0084jy0.jpg

I'll be founding my next city, a GP city, shortly.
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/8480/civ4screenshot0085gz3.jpg

From there i have a further 3 cities i want to found, two around my future GP city and another closer to akots to act as a buffer, i'm trying to decide whether it'd be better to found them sooner rather than later to get them up and running quicker.

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/8256/civ4screenshot0088yn8.jpg

This culture trait is quite useful for setting up my borders quickly but i could still really do with a financial or philosophical trait, unfortunatly my closest rivals; Beam, Akots and Ynnek all have one of the two.

http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/962/civ4screenshot0091xb4.jpg

I think there will have to be a war between me and akots, he'll realise soon if he hasn't already that he will be unable to win the game if i remain as my lead in pop and land is too substantial. i think he'll also realise that i'll have to be taken out sooner rather than later. Thats ok though as i've spoken to barbu, he seems quite up for going to war with akots, we've made plans of a sort to attack, specifically we're going to try attacking in about 40-50 turns we think.

I've dropped a spy into akots territory a few turns ago
http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/5589/civ4screenshot0090ft1.jpg
So far i've managed to steal currency and CoL which was very nice i hope to be able to steal the majority of the rest of the tech he is up on me, crucially CS.
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/9430/civ4screenshot0087lv3.jpg

And for those of you with keen eyes you've have noticed that i'm research Music, i should in theory be the first one there as no-one on this continent even has aesthetics and i think those on the other side are too busy warring with each other to have got it. I'll be able to enter into a GA with my great artist and then hopefully switch to bearu without any anarchy in the middle. My only concern so far is my lack of religion but hopefully i should have a GS pop shortly which should allow me to bulb philosophy and therefore i should gain a religion.

Here is the demographics,
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/9800/civ4screenshot0086om1.jpg

Looking very healthy! i'm not entirely sure who is beating me in gnp as they fluctuate each turn but i think it may be akots and i can see that he is running wealth in numerous cities, whether this is to keep him afloat or enable him to keep teching i'm not entirely sure.

Darkness
13-02-2009, 15:32
It's all looking very good there!

Lucky for you barbu seems willing to fight akots with you. Strange decision on his part (or have you agreed to give him most of the land?), since he would be much better served by keeping you and akots occupied with eachother. If you manage to remove him (or if akots manages to remove you), barbu seems the most logical target after that...

BCLG100
13-02-2009, 18:08
Well me and Barbu agreed very early on to a very lengthy peace treaty whilst also agreeing to smack akots about.

I did say though that he could have the majority of the land, frankly i wont need it. I also mentioned offering my help should he want to hit ynnek at somepoint in the future.

I don't think i'll turn on barbu unless i absolutly have too, primarily due to the no city razing thing, will mean maintaining an empire that big before the modern age will be very very hard!
