Didn't chose the leader, but I think it is ok.

Here is what I saw, when the game started.

Founded Timbuktu where the worker is.

I am almost at the south pole at the southeren tip of my continent/island.

Let's get this started...

Founded my 2nd city (everyone got a worker and a 2nd settler) in 3880 BC.

Got Fishing from a hut (was researching it anyway, only saved me 3 turns) and got 65 gold from a hut.

Started Bronze Working.

Game re-started because of unbalanced starting positions.

This time I got Carthage.

And this is at the end of 4000 BC.

Which resources have you near your cities ?
(I like the resource pointer...)

Looks like sugar, pigs, and cows so far.

BC 450:

Quiet game for me. There are soon 2 killed civs on the continent.

I have secured my southern cultural border. but need a few more settlers to settle the rest of my peninsula.

HippoSpe will become a specialist city but needs some more irrigations until then.

A lot of fights are going on.

Short: BCLG (who was running away in score) declared war on akots (my ally), barbu joined and declared on akots. I was warning barbu about this. Had a peace treaty with barbu, which I had to break.

Situation in the south towards barbu's border before the war:

Some turns later.

After a failed attempt to take Philadelphia, barbu sent a big stack into my lands, but as I used a Great Prophet for a GA, I was able to build enough units to finally kill that stack. I guess, he missed the right turn to attack.
beam is also involved and on our side.

Finally managed to take Philadelphia. I am not yet at war with BCLG, but I guess, he might declare on me soon.

Jeez, barbu took a pounding there on the power graph. That from the Philadelphia fight? Too bad you had to use a GA at a time like this. Was it a one great person GA?

It was not only from killing his attacking stack (28 units), as in the meantime, akots has conquered two cities of barbu (but I don't know how much units got killed there) and I don't know whether Power graph is only about units.

Yeah, it was a one person GA, but there was no alternative, because barbu and his ally BCLG were very strong together, so I guess, I wouldn't have lived to see another chance to get to a GA.

Ynnek asked me to play for him this week, so here I am. The previous turn we got Democracy. Beam offered to switch civics if we didn't switch to emancipation. It seems like a reasonable offer. If he gets rid of emancipation that'll help unhapiness, which is now kept in check by Hereditary Rule. I think if Beam switches we could try to run Representation, which is the better civic (I think).

Also we got a Great Spy. It's the first one I've ever seen... what should I do with it? My guess would be to add it to the specialist city. It can't research anything.

BTW, the upside of not switching to emancipation is: [whipped]

Suggestions anyone? Beam has switched to slavery.

Good questions. Representation or the one with bonus on cottages. Don't know, there are some cottages, but that civic doesn't have a happiness boost. Can't login to really see how many cottages I have made, but I guess, that one might be better as especially the city with the Academy has a lot of cottages. But I think it is also fine if you wait until Monday evening when I am back.

BTW, concerning the Great Spy. An option might be to ship him to Stapel s.t. he can add some thousands of Espionage Points (if you haven't done anything ith him yet). Works like a Great Merchant in that respect. But that might seem aggressive, so adding him to a city seems also fine.

I'll add him, that makes the most sense imo. Who needs spies anyway? Or so says the civ4 vanilla player ;)
I'm not sure about changing civics right now. Representation is the only viable option I think, because of the happiness bonus. Without going into massive calculation mode I have the feeling that even that'd lead to massive uproar. I'll leave it to you.

So did you make the switch?

socralynnek

No, so far not (need to update this spoiler somewhat soon). I still think that Herediary Rule is fine, but once more cities got rid of whipping horrors, I'll make the switch. But probably to the one with extra hammers for towns.
