Interested!

Looks tempting unless it is a huge map again. Large might be OK but better be crowded but standard size.

Also, IMO, Tech Trading off is quite mandatory. Other things might be not so important.

Cool, that's nine already. :) Since no one gave me any setting suggestions, I've made some myself. Please tell me if there's something you don't like.

I thought a maze map would be wicked too, but I reckoned that would bump into too much resistance. ;)

I sent a message to Bodean. He might be interested. I've apparently been healed from Civaholicism.

The setting look fine to me. Although i'm with akots in that i would prefer that the map is a little crowded rather than having to much open space

I think, we should get someone to check the starting positions for us to not get too uneven positions.

I think, we should get someone to check the starting positions for us to not get too uneven positions.

Uneven positions will make sense if tech trading is ON. If not, it's imposible to catch up.

Matrix
10-10-2008, 01:42
What do you mean by that, barbu? That's it's gonna be uneven anyway, so no point in correcting that? That's like giving in to the alleged fact that's it's a game of luck anyway.

IMO a lot can be achieved by diplomacy and decisive acting. It's not all about GNP and production. But some starting positions are simply to cruel to imagine. (I have a certain Texas Hold 'em player in mind. ;))

barbu1977
10-10-2008, 05:20
I mean that if you look at the Texas holdem game, there's only the few that had a good start that have a chance to win it. (Who wants to go fight IanCD's infantry when some have not discovered gunpowder yet!) If there had been tech trading, the diplomacy could have been more important and a potential dogpilling against the tech-leader is possible.

With equal starts things are a bit different. If you screw up your game, it's your own fault.

Yeah i don't need to imagine it:), but i'm not one to complain.

I'm with matrix here, the start is part of the luck involved in the game. We can always regenerate the map if someone feels they got an incredibly bad one

:( Sorry guys, although I did get the shaft as well. And I was counted as "FOR" on the suggestion of a restart as well :p

If akots and Ian would go ahead and duke it out, then we could just declare a wiener and I could start a new one.

Fine with me, but imo it is key to have the map checked in before we start. My gear that ran RtW II until I was eliminated is available as server btw. Other than the Pitboss it will only be used for some Websurfing so uptime should be as good as in RtW II.

Nitro will join us as well, but he said he couldn't post here yet, so...

That means we're with eleven. A large map with low sea level then? I always prefer rocky 'climate' (funny rock formations).

And as BCLG100 pointed out: I suggested no city razing at the end of the RTW2 thread. I don't expect much support for that, but I thought I'd propose it anyway.

Other than that I too agree two settlers, two warriors (or one warrior and one scout) and a worker would be a good starting kit.

I'd like to see "No city razing" as well!

Robi D
12-10-2008, 06:53
The large map with 12 i think is just cosy.

2 settler and 2 warriors and a worker is fine.

With the no city razing, does that apply to barb cities as well?

nitro1974
12-10-2008, 14:03
City razing is particularly useful/annoying on a map with large continents (like Africa), where an invasion is almost impossible. We won't get such a map, will we? If so, I opt for excluding city razing. If not, I don't really care. If someone attacks me properly, I can respect that. If someone razes one of my cities, I get pissed. So, it's an in-game ethical issue. All part of the fun...

Matrix
12-10-2008, 14:53
No City Razing applies to barbarian cities too, unfortunately. And on a fractal map there are usually different continents, but not always. Look at three examples here (http://www.civduelzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4287).

BCLG100

I would prefer not having city razing really. To me that could mean less war and i like war.

NHJ
12-10-2008, 18:14
I have no strong preference either way, but I like playing with different settings occasionally, so go for it, I guess :)

Is this correct then?

Matrix
13-10-2008, 01:01
Ah, I just wanted to tell you, but indeed, that's about it. :) Although I'd say normal sealevel, because large is already meant for ten players instead of eleven. That's the last missing ingredient too: 11 players. ;)

Beam
13-10-2008, 02:33
mauwer, Matrix: near perfect.

Sealevel should be low.

And please put the turntimer at 23h but I can do that myself with the .WBS iirc.

mauer

Trying guys, although I'm having trouble. First time I've ever done this btw.

Anyways, two things:

1. Not sure where to save this. You said save it as a scenario, but there's no option for that, that I can see anyways.

2. When placing the additional units, I accidentally placed one unit from one civ with the group of others. No problem correcting that, but now when I loaded the game up it makes for immediate contact between those two civs.

If someone else wants to do this before these questions are answered then feel free. Otherwise I'll wait for advice.

Beam
13-10-2008, 03:13
mauer, it will be saved as a .wbs (WorldBuilderSave) and should be somewhere in My Documents > My Games. Iirc you can just call it fractal or something like that.

Contact from misplacements of units can be corrected in the .wbs but you must be familiar with editing those files. No prob for me once you're finished and send it over.

mauer
13-10-2008, 03:16
So I just save it while in world builder then? If so, then just give me somewhere to send it to :D

Thanks for helping us out mauer!
Thing are sitting on the server atm, last things needed doing:
- Civ Assignment
- Quick test if all the starts are OK.

Mauer provided us with the following civs:
- Viking
- Inca
- Ottoman
- Zulu
- Khmer
- Maya
- Mongolia
- India
- Mali
- America
- Russia

I propose we assign the civs to players using Matrix procedure he used for RtW II. Matrix can you please do so?

Quick test basically means do you have five starting units and no contact with other civs.

akots
13-10-2008, 20:46
There are also a few civs with alternative leaders. The player who gets that civ might then have the right to chose one.

Beam
13-10-2008, 21:03
The leaders are also preselected and I trust Mauer picked the best for the job.

Why btw give ppl who get a civ with multiple leaders an advantage over ppl with a single leader civ?

mauer
13-10-2008, 23:50
Sorry guys, should have checked to see if there were preferences for civs/leaders. Matrix just asked me to do it all random.

Matrix
14-10-2008, 00:39
I simply thought that was easiest. Besides, I like to have to play with different civs instead of playing the same ones over and over.

I've shuffled with Excel with the following result:
1. Beam - Viking
2. IanDC - Inca
3. Plux - Ottoman
4. Matrix - Zulu
5. BCLG100 - Khmer
6. barbu1977 - Maya
7. Nitro - Mongolia
8. akots - India
9. socralynnek - Mali
10. Robi D - America
11. NHJ - Russia

mauer
14-10-2008, 00:53
I said earlier that I don't like fractals, but this one looked rather interesting I'll admit. I didn't change any land features, although I did have to add a bonus (mainly food) here and there to make the starting plots as equal as possible. If you guys run into problems, then you get what you paid for :p

akots
14-10-2008, 03:44
Since I'm India and I were India in RtW2, can it at least be Gandhi and not Asoka? Also, I can switch with anyone, does not matter since it is a long game and playing for the same civ again is very boring.

Robi D
14-10-2008, 09:45
Since i'm America does that mean i get bailed out everytime i start losing:D

I'm happy to swap with akots to spare him from playing the same civ again if everyones ok with that

socralynnek
14-10-2008, 09:59
I think it's alright if you swap.

I could think of better civs to play, but Mali is at least better than the Zulus in last game. At least for my playing style, I think...

So, let's get it started.

We need a name for the game. How about "CDZ Bailout"?

Beam
14-10-2008, 13:52
How about "CDZ Cut the Crap"?

I plan to start the game early this evening. [charge]

Beam

Game is running. :)

Please use IP 83.161.37.29 to connect. I'll create a new thread similar to RtW later.

It is also in CivStats called CDZ Cut the Crap.
