View Full Version : Install problems
Hey guys, I'm trying to install Civ 4 (vanilla) on my PC now. I keep getting this problem though. Any suggestions?
quote:Feature transfer error
Feature: Default Feature
Component: Civ4 component
File: D:/data2.cab
Error: data error (cyclic redundancy check)
It keeps happening while the install is working on:
"firaxis games/sid meier's civilization 4/assets/art0.fpk"
if that helps.
You disk may be dirty and needs cleaning or your CD drive is malfunctioning. You can try either cleaning them both or copying cab on hard drive.
Tried cleaning the disk and it still didn't work. It's relatively unscratched also. What is "copying cab"?
cab is archive which needs to be unpacked/extracted from the disk. Something is wrong since file art0.fpk is not properly extracted.
I had to get a new civ4 when that happened to me, normally it just means your disc is fucked.
You could download it illegally but it would be legal as you actually have the disc for it.
Well, my civ disks are all still somehow OK since I use the medication but they are of so poor quality that they become damaged in no time, really. Many people complain. BTS disk in my case only worked from a CD-RW drive while refusing to work from a DVD drive and required rather extensive cleaning.
I think I'm gonna have to buy a new disk. In the meantime, things are so bad that I've decided to get my civ fix from Civ2...sheesh
Yeah, that didn't last long. I forgot how amazingly terrible Civ2 is.
I know you were all concerned dearly for me, but I was able to pull through. Wal mart had one copy of vanilla left on the shelf....booyah
Must be weird, buying everything at Wal Mart, every day of the week...
Where else do people buy stuff? Only competition they have out here is 7-11 and Taco Bell....lol
Yeah, a girl I went to grad school with told me that it was the only shop out there, that's really amazing.
Something else you could have tried is copy the contents of the disc to your HD and install from. Works sometimes.
