If you are romeothemonk or some other monk or want to help romeo rather than me...

....then....

PLEASE GO AWAY!

Settings: Random (Fractal, small, no tech trading)

It is vanilla since romeo doesn't have BtS and I don't have Warlords.

I got Peter of Russia (hmmm, don't like that although Cossacks might come in handy), he got Japan.

OK, let's go!

Don't like that starting position. But if he didn't get a better one, then it should be fine.
Maybe I should have moved 1 N since I can't use the other bonuses until I have Calendar which can be quite some time wothout tech trading.

My scout opened a hut and found this...

This lucky guy got a whole lot of FPs...

That is bad...

Do you have anything to rush there?

socralynnek
12-11-2007, 09:11
hmm, that what I was thinking at first too. As his capital is just about12-14 tiles away.
Maybe I can build axes quite soon if I am lucky to have some copper. But I don't have enough food for pop rushing in the next turns. And I need to build a worker first anyway.

As long as you can defend yourself thats the main thing. Anyway you have an advantage since you know where he is and he doesn't know where you are.

Also i would take a leaf out of BCLG playbook and use a chariot rush on him. That if you have horses of course

Found a border about 10 tiles to the west of romeo.

BW in 2 turns. Warrior in capital is done. Started on a worker at size 2.

It is Cyrus.

And I got Copper in my city radius.

Seems like a nice recipe for a rush... :)

Yes, I agree. he got Copper just outside his city radius. Maybe I can build a few Axes and then at least hurt him enough to slow down his development. His capital is very nice so that is what I have to do.

If need be you could just sit on top of his copper with a spear and a couple of axes, what's he going to be able to do?

Copper connected, I am starting to build some axes in a few turns. My capital is growing too slowly.

Btw, what are the other bonuses? I'm Ctrl-R challenged.

Thx, I had the cows and copper, missed the plantation happy's. And up in the jungle are gems, right?

socralynnek

Right, that is gems.

So, most of my ressources aren't available yet (at least cows are in a few turns)

I'll take the next picture with Ctrl-R...

Well, it will probably be a big surprise for him that you have that axeman there waiting. You have any thoughts for city #2?

That was the decisive turn.

I meanwhile founded a 2nd city and my forces came too late. His 2nd city was well developed and he already had an army. He killed my units and came with a few some turns after that.

I didn't see a chance of winning anymore as his two cities are quite strong.

Final screenshot after I didn't even succeed in killing all his units...

Still really early for a towel call, but it is looking like it would go Romeo's way. Build switches and pop rushes would have fended off a counter strike I think, but in the end it looks like he'd get you. Kind of how my game with Tubby went. No shame in it, I had to make the same call with Beorn.

In looking through this Ynnek, the one main difference I would have done in your shoes is chop a lot to push axes early. Your first force of 2 axes and a spear really got me concerned.

socralynnek

My main mistakes AFAICS: Building a settler instead of a 2nd worker (you are right, I should have send you some more units, it was a little, maybe just 5 turns, too late), not going for AH early enough (my capital was growing much too slow)

I should have used the one advantage of my starting position (the forests) much better. Therefore I was too slow to compensate for your food rich starting position.

But I knew that if my first strike wasn't succesful, you'd soon outgrow me.

Well played!
