View Full Version : Round 1 Spoiler vs Some name I can't spell

This is my spoiler for my game vs Ynnek.
Thoughts, comments and ideas are more than welcome.

Small, Fractal Map. I drew Togu. My strengths are obvious, aggresive and cheap civics. I need to play to that, as well as cheap lighthouses and courts, so if it gets to that point, I can spam fishing villages.

Here is my start.

I decided to move to on the hill so as to have wicked growth, some free shields and some hills in my radius.
I am building a workboat first, as growth is king in civ. I am going to research towards pottery first as a granary and most importantly cottages kick butt.
I think I will go work boat, wb, worker, warrior. The worker and wb might switch places, but I doubt it.

That's some amazing growth potential there. Just be sure and manage the unhappiness from overpopulation. Not too many shields, but whipping alot is an option. Heck, with that much food, I'd almost be willing to just cottage all those flood plains and look for a production center elsewhere. Not that you won't have good production with those hills, but definatley could be a good gold city. I'd go, again just my 2 cents, warrior, wb, worker.

Production is pretty bad actually. Desert hills are bad tiles, and arent efficient until you reach size 10-12 with cottages. But the whip can keep you going until you find a production center.

Quick update, I just finished turn 5, and I just met a persian scout. Good thing that he isn't ynnek.
I may listen to you guys and revise my build order to go WB, warrior worker WB.

And now it gets ugly!!
Ynnek found me, and I am recalling my warrior as fast as possible.

I didn't find him till after my turn was over.

So he found you already. You're going to be much closer than mauer and I, that's for sure. So what's the plan now? BW asap to whip those extra food away? Settler asap to get a spot with some actual production capability?

I will finish with pottery, then research to BW quickly.
Here founding on a hill helps me a lot.
I may also have to get archery a lot sooner than I would normally.

Which is why I always build a warrior first :D.....just saying

That and an early axeman :(

Well, I just researched mining. From the Score, I am even in Tech and size with Cyrus, and up a tech on Ynnek. I have my warrior back, and my aggresive trait will be very very nice as long as I keep tech and resource parity.
I will grow to size 3 in 1 turn and get my WB in 2, with Bronze working due in 10 turns.

I took a quick peek at the demo screen. I got some interesting info there. I think that I am safe for a bit. I have the most GDP, most food, and most pop, 21k to 6k. I am trailing in production (duh), but since someone has 6 production, I think it means that ynnek is popping a worker first. That is good for me as it greatly lowers the chance I will be overwhelmed early with a double warrior rush or some such nonsense.
In 6 turns, it won't matter as then I can crank up some Devo on the stereo, and "Whip it good!!"

I will let my warrior finish naturally, then whip my next WB, then work on a worker.

Well, In finishing bronze working, this is what I found.

Now that I have some scouting of the area, it is time to figure out where my 2nd city should go.

I am thinking either the desert right next to the wheat or on the desert hill south of the copper.
Thoughts comments?

I really want to be able to add some health food as my capital will need that or the ability to whip frequently.

If he's like super close then I'd settle on the plains to get the pig, wheat and copper. It's not a tiny, so if he's not too close then I'd settle on the desert square. Either way, I'd try to get that copper ASAP. How long till your border expands again?

i'd go with the desert between the copper and wheat. Biggest reason is because you get rid of a useless tile but it also means you can lauch ships from both sides of the island which could come in handy.

Well, I found him, and I am going to be hiding on hills and forests and just generally being a pest. I should have my new town up before he can get to me so he will soon have to contend with axes flowing his way. I also whipped a rax, just cause.

And here is Ynnek's attack on me. I hope this is all he has, and he has shot his wad with this assualt. He has 1 more axeman than I figured on, but I can whip an axe a turn for a while. Actually, as a Christmas bonus, I will whip 2 axes next turn, if he moves into range.

Alright then. I fixed the error. (NOTE TO EVERYONE: no apostrophe's in your file name and the upload feature works just fine)

He moved all three units onto the copper square. Seeing as I didn't want my copper pillaged, I attacked.
My upgraded axe (Love Rax's) killed his axe (~1 hp left)
My normal axe died to his normal axe (1 hp left)
My spear killed his spear (~.5 hp left)
My warrior killed his 1 hp axe (~.5 hp left)

Time to go send some units down to take it to ynnek. My goal is to just keep him at one city, while I expand once again, this time towards him.
