View Full Version : Robs work and fun this past week

had a research cruise in the gulf of mexico.... We worked 12 hour shifts. here is what i caught waiting for a shift change one day.

The shark is 37 inches long and the shark species doesnt get much bigger than 42 inches. This was a male which is usually smaller than the females so he has been around awhile. I released him after making sure he would live.( put him in a live tank).

I caught a few other fish but nothing as exciting as this shark. Incidentally, he would have probably be a LA state record but we dont keep records on this species of sharks. (atlantic sharpnose shark)

OK here is another one....12hour night shifts suck.

Mangrove snapper...about 8 pounds. Given to ships cook for supper. :)

little red snapper...legal size but released, needs to grow up to have some babies.

In university I had to dissect a shark like that (although of the northern variant). Believe me, it smells.

Oh yeah it does smell. Sharks smell when they are alive. I also neglected to mention that half of the science crew was women. :)

Yeah I am married but it doesnt hurt to half some scenery on board.

Leave my lime green shirt out of this...best dam fishing shirt I got. It takes talent not to get dirty when fishing, thats what rags are for.

I will post some more shots later to show what I do.

Thats some nice fish. And it obvious what the lime green shirt is for, its in case he fall overboard so he could be spotted easily ;)

Nice Job!! I want that one, except I would probably have to move to LA and become an LSU fan. I am not sure I could do that.

Not an LSU fan, but they sure make it easy to want to watch their games. In other news, the Longhorns finally showed me they could put a whooping on a team that deserves it. But, to keep this on topic....Robboo is a goob.
