I took over this game from someone around 1300 BC or thereabouts, cant really remember when. Mansa is Spi/Fin, and pretty much kicks ass; the map is based on Earth (self-explanatory, hence the catchy title). So remembering this story about old Mansa,

"On the way to Mecca, when he passed through Cairo in July of 1324, he was reportedly accompanied by a caravan that included thousands of people and nearly a hundred camels, giving away so much gold that it took over a decade for the economy across North Africa to recover, due to the rapid inflation that it initiated."

I figured his lands must be rich. Solid thinking there huh? Outresearch everyone huh? Well... have a look at my cities.

Is it just the images or has your interface caught Parkinson's ?

The lack of food is pretty terrible; the 5 desert tiles that should be floodplains would make the position immensely better, enough to whip and grow back easier for production. Speaking of production, the hills there are the only ones around, everything else is desert... Also, only two food resources (cow and clams) mean that the floodplains screw Timbuktu and Djenne over on growing.

And not any gold anywhere! Wheres the gold Mansa? We have some nice gems (originally covered in jungle btw), but no gold. Also the hills are infertile as far as any metal, since iron was in a desert spot where the city cannot grow to size 2, and copper was claimed by BCLG on the North coast. This spot probably should have been claimed by me, but it is relatively food limited as well.

So bad start... lets go to war! The choices were Matrix of Zululand, and Shabbaman of Egypt. Matrix' start was only a bit better than mine, and involved wading through a lot of jungle or a mass galley surprise attack. Shabba's land provided much better resources with some grown up cottages, and the site of Medina has a natural choke point at the Suez Canal. Mauer was wanting to invade Shabba as well, since he had poor land, so it seemed like as good of a plan as any.

The notes above were from when Igloodude took over for a few turns. We were going to play it cooperatively but I believe he got busy and I dont blame him, this game is pretty boring.

So anyways, Mauer would attack from India and I would attack from the desert, you can see the remains of the Great Desert Road.

This great plan met undeniable failure against the evil genius of Shabba. First, his wandering warrior discovered the road crew and had to be dispatched, initiating war. 2nd, Mauer fought for all of two turns and then got peace, as my warrior's 5 turn old open border information proved faulty and Shabba scrambled troops to defend against mauer in the west. Also since his power is like triple mine, he had more than enough troops to defend against my stack of elephants and cats, and those were double moved to oblivion, as you can tell from the power graph after 10 AD.

So it has been mostly a cold war, with some exchanges via double moves. Now Shabba has 30 troops ready to doublemove into the hill by my capital. I have kind of been waiting for someone else to declare on him, any of Akots, Simon, or Robi D. Speaking of them look at their resources:

And Walata, and the jungle going into Matrix land.

The good new is Im not so technologically retarded as could be and do a couple hundred science. So I will have Grenadiers in about 11 turns. Notice the lack of workers, I really like workers, and usually build a bundle. However half of mine have been stolen by Shabba in double moves, which is entirely due to my negligence.

So I leave it to you, forum reader. Choose Your Own Adventure. Should the Malinese Empire:

A) Get Grens, kill Shabba's stack of 30, and then go after him, knowing he will build up more forces... You have a stack of 20+ macemen, elephants, and cats and some other things. 8 maces, 5 elephants, 6 cats IIRC, and a musketman next turn. This plan is also contingent on him not jumping the gun and coming on in now; probably I can defend against this though.

B) Say to hell with it and ride high on in to Medina, cutting off his stack, which will probably go in and gut what you have remaining. See pic.

C) Say to hell with THAT, and go attack Simon's North African cities to be a pain in the ass. Simon has cavalry btw, and doesnt want to enter the war unless he gets Medina. Blah.

D) Call 1-800 Akots for help.

E) Blindside Matrix after getting peace with Shabba. Dont know if this is possible.

Those 0 food flood plains are a very real pain indeed.

I personally would try and get an Exodus-to-America card out of my back pocket. Don't know how feasible that is though.

And really, when I looked at the text graph, I read that your population was Grooving rather than growing. Sounds good though.

Ya know, I kind of thought about that. I dont know if its reachable by galley though.

F) If in doubt, migrate to Canada.
