View Full Version : Spoiler for CivIVor BTS Pitboss

Hey, if you are playing some other leader there then go away now.

ID is hosting a BTS Pitboss.

I have chosen Huayna Capac. I was the last to chose and somehow it seemed to me that from the possible options, this was the best one.

Terraces are nice, the UU, well let's see.

I have played the CDZ grouphug pitboss without doing a lot of cottages, so I need to chose a different style here for using my financial capabilities.

Anyway, that is once I can play myself.

Yesterday the game started, but my computer didn't start.

So I have asked for replacement.
Hopefully Rik will fill this thread with a starting location picture here soon.

BTW, this is an 18 player pitboss.

Rik Meleet
09-08-2007, 17:21
I've played it. Here's the end-of-turn screenie.
Password is as in the PM.

I chose fishing for the crab resources. A hut next to the settler gave maps.

Cool Thanks very much!

Fishing is perfect!

BTW, the game thread is over there:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=235271

Hopefully people will post there when the turn changes.

Starting location looks like Colossus might come in nice at some point...ok, that is weeks to go.

I let you know when my computer is fixed!

Rik Meleet

I think someone is to our north north-east. There is discoloring 7 north, 3 East of our capital. Shall I walk the Q-unit to there to see what we can find ?

socralynnek
09-08-2007, 17:36
Oh that reminds me of the only pitboss I played where I eliminated grs very shortly after the game started.

Maybe you could walk up there on a slight indirect way uncovering more tiles (so first once NW and then a few time NE).

DoW is not allowed in the first 10 turns anyway.

And we might find more nice city locations.

Rik Meleet
09-08-2007, 17:39
In 3 minutes turn 2 starts. I'll login and walk the Q NW and take a screenie so you can tell me what you want.

Mostly desert and some calendar happyness.

socralynnek
09-08-2007, 17:52
OK, yeah, for best uncovering, I guess it is better to move N once and then NW for a few turns if there is no hut around.

At least the hills to the NE-E of the Q should make a nice second city spot with FPs and some later ressources.

Research should have two priorities: BW for pop rushing and chop rushing and Pottery for Terraces and Cottages. Don't know which first, both could be important.

Rik Meleet
09-08-2007, 18:04
Want me to change research then ?
BTW: the neighbour shows up white and mousing over their lands indicates Byznatine.

Bronze (+ mining) in 26 turns, Pottery (+ wheel) in 19 turns.
Being financial means sea-tiles produce a lot of commerce. Workboat on Crab gives 5 food + 3 commerce.

socralynnek
09-08-2007, 18:09
No, I mean after Fishing.
Fishing is still fine, two nice work boats give a huge boost (and maybe a third for exploration)

Byzantine is killercane IIRC. That could be nice or bad...he is a strong player I guess...

Rik Meleet
11-08-2007, 13:36
Moved N - oasis, Floodplains and gold.

not bad surroundings I think...a lot of food...

Rik Meleet
12-08-2007, 15:42
I went NW and we've met Tokugawa (Davo I think).

socralynnek
13-08-2007, 01:02
Seems to be quite crowded...

You are right it's comradeDavo.

I guess, it could be best to go for The Wheel after Fishing is done.
Build the two workboats and soon after that the first worker.

Rik Meleet
13-08-2007, 18:33
I went NE.

Justinian contacted us. I replied to take care of business with you, via PM.
When will your PC be ok again ?

socralynnek
16-08-2007, 09:02
My PC magically worked yesterday again. If it will work again this evening, I'll contact you and take over (in maybe 12 or 13 hours from now)

I think with my civ it might be good to have a friend nearby to make use of being financial.

Which tech did you chose to research? Oh well, I hopefully can see tonight myself...

Thanks for playing so far!

Rik Meleet
16-08-2007, 13:46
You said "I guess, it could be best to go for The Wheel after Fishing is done." so I did.

socralynnek
16-08-2007, 14:02
Perfect! Thanks!

socralynnek
17-08-2007, 08:38
Did work. Everything is looking perfect. Thanks again!

Rik Meleet
20-08-2007, 18:38
What do you need want ?

socralynnek
20-08-2007, 23:40
Hmmm, I think, after the work boat, the capital should produce another one and then one more unit.

killercane (IIRC Byzantine) contacted me. Let's see if he wants to be allied or just friendly..

After The Wheel comes in I guess Pottery next for Terraces and then the way to BW.

The unit can just explore, no matter in which direction (maybe just north or so)

Rik Meleet
21-08-2007, 13:04
Red circle is preferred 2nd city siter?
Red lines are exploration path.
If you need any particular screenshots or knowledge, just ask.

OK ?

socralynnek
21-08-2007, 13:19
I fully trust you concerning exploration. Just post a pic if you find something interesting.

I am still a little unsure when to settle the second city. In any case I want a worker before the settler.

So, maybe after the 2nd work boat: quechua->worker->Terraces->Quechua->Settler.

What is needed for the camps? Hunting, right? And that we already have, right? But, anyway, that will be a week or two until the worker is done, I guess. And hopefully I have located my computer problem until then.

Rik Meleet
23-08-2007, 14:44
Soc: The Wheel is due in 1 turn. What tech next ?
Pottery I'd think.

socralynnek
23-08-2007, 14:55
Yes. As I wanted some cottages and Terraces quite early, I think Pottery is the way to go.

Then Mining and BW.

I think, my computer needs a new board, but I won't make it to a shop before saturday. And then I want them to check if it's really the board first...Let's see how long that takes...

Rik Meleet
23-08-2007, 15:04
I've supported PC hardware for years. What are the symptoms of your PC's bad behaviour ?

socralynnek
23-08-2007, 15:27
When I switch it on I hear the fan and the cd drive is on, but there is no beep from the BIOS and the screen stays black and nothing happens.

I have changed the graphic card to an older one but still nothing (despite the knowledge that the fan of the graphic card also is on)

I have tried starting the computer with taking out either one of my RAM chips (and even without) ,s till mothing.

I also had taken out the battery of the BIOS and taken off the cables to give it a reset. Also no change.

Therefore I guess it is the board. Do you have another proposition what can be the source?

Rik Meleet
23-08-2007, 16:23
OK, that's in the very core of your PC. Videocard is not possible. It's even very unlikely to be your memory. So we're talking motherboard, CPU or Powersupply (although I give PSU less than 1% chance since it can give the 12 Volt needed to open a CD-tray).

There is a trick that helps blockading motherboards: remove the powercable and then keep the power-switch pressed for 15 seconds. After you replug the powercable your system might run again. This solves a problem if the capacitators (condensators in Dutch) are filled and blocking your boot.

Other test: if your keyboard has a num-lock led or a scroll-lock led: see if that goes on-and-off if you repeatedly press the num-lock or the scroll-lock key. If that still works your CPU (processor) is ok and I agree with your diagnosis of motherboard. If that doesn't work than it is very likely your CPU.

socralynnek
23-08-2007, 16:28
OK, thanks for the tips!

Will try when I get home.

socralynnek
23-08-2007, 23:10
Tested. Didn't help.

The LEDs of the keyboard are dimming very very little.

And no change when I hit num lock or scroll lock.

So that would hint to the CPU being buggy.

Rik Meleet
24-08-2007, 00:49
If the lights are on; the CPU is fine. If you can't get them to on: think of the CPU.

(Technical background: the keyboard is one of the first devices to be tested in the POST. If the leds aren't on it means the problem is before that and thus points to the CPU).

However, a CPU is not going to die just by itself. It's virtually always the consequence of something (malfunctioning fan, incorrect cooling-paste, ESD).
* Have you got an Intel or an AMD CPU ?
* Have you had problems with temperature recently or did something with (like remove or touch) the CPU ?

socralynnek
24-08-2007, 09:08
I'd say, they are off. The very dim light of them is only seeable when the room is dark (and was also seeable when the computer was off)

AMD.

I don't think that temperature was a problem.
When the computer was running, it worked for many hours (sometimes even a day) without crashing.
The only problem I had in the last few months was, that sometimes the computer did one long and 2 short beeps (which was a graphic card error) on startup and then started up without showing a screen.
But that was just sometimes and as I said before, I changed the video card already.

Didn't touch the CPU. Done 't even exactly know where it is (probably behind the fan).

I still have warranty on the machine but that would probably mean sending it to the repair center and probably waiting for weeks until it is back.

Rik Meleet
24-08-2007, 16:53
AMD has a higher temperature - tolerance than Intel, but -unlike Intel- when it crosses that line AMD is immediately fried.
As it can still be more than 1 part I would advise to contact the manufacturer to have it repaired.

Off topic: we've got the wheel, research set to Pottery.
Camps require hunting and we don't have that tech yet. We have Fishing, The Wheel, Agriculture and Mysticism.

Rik Meleet
27-08-2007, 01:49
I get an error about version-errors. Did IglooDude change the version ?

socralynnek
27-08-2007, 08:55
Probably yes. He announced last week that on monday he'll change to 3.03.

Just checked in the CFC thread. Yes, he upgraded to 3.03.
Is it possible for you to upgrade or do you have games running at 3.02?

Rik Meleet
27-08-2007, 14:49
I have games in 3.02 - with Mauer and Robboo. I'll ask them if they can upgrade to 3.03.

Rik Meleet
28-08-2007, 14:19
I'm upgrading to 3.03. Hopefully that will solve this.

Rik Meleet
28-08-2007, 14:45
It's working again.
The workboat is finished and working. 2nd boat started.
Pottery in 3 - what did you want after Pottery ?

Here a picture of the north - shall I pop the hut ?

http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/2738/civ4screenshot0009yl6.jpg

socralynnek
28-08-2007, 14:56
Mining, then BW.

Yes, I think the hut should be popped. With the defensive bonus the quechua should survive if there is something bad in there.

BTW, no news on my computer. I moved last year, so the one who sold it to me is far away. Currently working out if I can bring the computer to a shop around here or if I send it to the seller/manufacturer. If it is sent to the manufacturer, it might be that they send it back to the seller and not to me...so maybe it can be weeks until I have it again.

Maybe I should play some Civ3 again on that slightly aged notebook...

socralynnek
28-08-2007, 22:57
BTW, please don't attack killercan (Justinian IIRC), we agreed on cooperating.
He might send you details of his plan (thinking about trying for a slingshot) too.

Rik Meleet
29-08-2007, 17:25
Hut popped 36 gold.
I wasn't planning to attack anyone yet.

Rik Meleet
31-08-2007, 13:34
I'm away for the weekend. Have you got a backup - replacement ?

socralynnek
31-08-2007, 13:58
Ahem no.

How long are you away?

I don't think it is critical if no one plays for 3 or 4 days. You could give queued orders for build or tech if something finishes. And set the unit to auto explore for a few days...that is ok I guess...

I am away for the weekend too...

In the other pitboss game I was away for a week in an earlier stage...still I won it...

Rik Meleet
31-08-2007, 14:01
ok. I'll be back Sunday or monday.

Mining in 5; workoboat in 12, growth in 2. I set him to explore.

Rik Meleet
04-09-2007, 16:17
I've seen some blue borders. I think Suryavaguys.

2nd Workboat finished, starting on worker - due in 8. We'll do Quecha or terrace after that ?
Bronze in 8. We still need hunting for camps. What tech next ?

Our scouting Quecha has been attacked by a bear, but survived. 0.2/2 health. I'll move him to a jungle tile and heal him there. Marble spotted up north.

Quechua after worker. Just to be safe.

After BW: Meditation, then Priesthood. Will tell killercane.

Worker should first do a mine on the hill NW.

BTW, my computer will go to a repair shop tomorrow. Finally it is settled how the warranty part works. Let's see how long they take.

Rik Meleet
08-09-2007, 15:44
Soc - what promotion do you want on the Q ?

Rik Meleet
13-09-2007, 16:04
Am I still playing the turns or are you ready to take back?

socralynnek
13-09-2007, 16:51
No update concerning my computer. I have sent it in, but it is still being fixed over here.

So it would be nice if you continue playing.

Rik Meleet
13-09-2007, 17:59
ok

Rik Meleet
18-09-2007, 13:57
I need your decisions now.
We have bronze to our North-East.

I assume we'll go settler after the Quecha that is being build. (true?) Where do you want the next city ?
And where do you want the worker to go to and what should he do ?

http://img363.imageshack.us/img363/3904/civ4screenshot0014bp3.jpg

socralynnek
18-09-2007, 14:31
Yes. Settler after Quechua.

Is the worker building a road? Or a cottage? Let him finish first anyway.
The worker should chop the forest on hill NW of Cuzco to increase Settler speed.
Then mine it. Then road it.

City location: Bronze is important. But the other location is too good to miss too.
Difficult. Let me think a few more turns (hopefully my computer is back before that Settler finishes) but I tend to the hills W or SW of Bronze.

Rik Meleet
22-09-2007, 17:29
I fear I've spotted a Byzantine tile very close to the capital and very close to where you want the 2nd city.
Advise, please.

http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7218/civ4screenshot0015pq1.jpg

socralynnek
22-09-2007, 18:37
OK, that would mean the next city goes to Bronze...

I phoned the IT store today...no news yet...

Rik Meleet
23-09-2007, 13:52
Meditation learned - Priesthood started.
Chop ready in 2, settler in 9 (but earlier because of chop).
Suryaguy has made a 2nd city up north.
I'm sending a Q-guy to the bronze to schout for available sites.

Rik Meleet
27-09-2007, 13:52
your bronze site is under threat from Justinian as well. I strongly advise you to talk to him or else attack him.

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/350/civ4screenshot0016uj2.jpg

socralynnek
27-09-2007, 14:24
OK, I'll talk to him.

The shop phoned and said that I can get my computer back. I hope they haven't deleted the hard disk or something like that. If not, I might be able to see the game this evening...

socralynnek
27-09-2007, 23:06
Computer is back and working.

I have a new mainboard.

Thanks very much for playing!

I'll ask you again if I am away for some days or so!

Rik Meleet
28-09-2007, 13:00
Good luck.

Rik Meleet

What's happening ?

socralynnek
25-10-2007, 14:24
Oh, I planned an update for the weekend....because hopefully tomorrow I will own the Oracle...

I'll make a screenshot then and will descrbe a little more.

socralynnek
02-11-2007, 18:59
So, here is the next screenshot. I managed to get The Oracle and got Feudalism from it. The map is quite crowded, therefore some wars are already going on. Need to found a 3rd city quite soon.

Update 1 AD.

I have currently 3 cities, will get my 4thin a few turns. I have gotten one Great Prophet whom I joined to Cuzco.

The tech pace is quite slow due to technology trading being off.

I am allied to kilercane up to the north.

We made a deal. He sold me a Great Spy for 30gpt for some turns.

so did you take the capital yet? i was just going to go in cats first and not bother bombarding as it would have been quicker and probs only lose one unit, by the looks of civstats you didnt though?

edit- i didnt found the city there as it is a really stupid place to put a city- instead i sent it over towards charlies territory- there was a river and you could grab some more fur.

socralynnek

Is charlie dead now then?

I didnt manage to actually develop your lands that much as you dont have that many workers and i felt it'd be better focusing on killing charlie and then you could develop the lands.

Also on the spy front- got about 40/60 luck on techs, definatly not 70% which was unfortunate.

socralynnek
15-02-2008, 22:20
not yet. He has 2 or 3 cities left. SHould be a matter of time.

With stealing, it seems like I am kind of unlucky there with a well below 50% rate then...

Agree that getting more cities was more important than development. I was pretty cramped in at the beginning so that is definitely worth it.

Update: Managed to build the Taj mahal so I am currently in a golden age.

killercane, who is my ally seems to be running away. But I am in no position to do much against that anyway. Grabbing a GA was the best I could do...

Have just built another settler that should fill the gap to the east. Had a lot of maintenance to pay but my GPT is better now.

I have a Holy city and with spreading Islam a little more, i think I should have a better position later on. If there is some game left that is.

Yeah, killercane and me are ruling the world! The problem is: He had the better starting psoition than me so he profited more. And me was unlucky stealing techs from him.

Strange game indeed. At least I have met everyone since 1 1/2 weeks or so.
