Tomorrow I'll be leaving for a 2 week holiday in Normandy, France. Best known for D-Day I guess and I am sure we are going to visit a lot of the sites but also a region with a lot of history. We are staying at Dives-sur-Mer which is about 10 miles from Ouistreham which at the E end of the landing places. Dives is the place where William the Conqueror left to invade England in 1066 and although the Brits still think he was the last overseas invader this actually is Michiel de Ruyter centuries later. :) The only reason he didn't stay was the poor quality English food. ;)
Normandy otoh is excellent in food and I'm really looking forward to both the seafood and the crepes. Crepes are thin pancakes filled with almost anything you can eat. My personal favorite crepe is filled with baked Lardons, melted Fromage de Roquefort and Laitue (small pieces of bacon, a strong blue cheese and lettuce) followed by a sweet one say icecream, honey and some fruits. All with a good bottle of cider and finishing of with a coffee and a glass of Calvados.
Here some pics of the crew made in Toscany last year. You'll see my sister and my nephews of 11, 10 and 4 years old with Uncle Beam. :)
