View Full Version : Pitboss Got Me Hooked!

Stapel

Until a few weeks back, the only cIV multi human game I experienced was during the LAN here at my place. But now I'm in a pitboss game. Hooked!

So, whoever needs players, PM me!

We could start another one, with fewer players (and in the same timezone).

Stapel

Sounds great.

if your wanting same timezone i could join in?

Shabbaman

Sure, why not. The point is that it'd be nice if we could occasionally be online/in game at the same time (in the evening, for me that is). Should be doable for you, I suppose you're out of bed by then.

So, who is gonnna get this thing started? Surely not me, since I don't know shit about it.

One part is similar to C3C and that's settings, map etc and I'm pretty sure you'll find your way out in organizing that. The other part is the Pitboss server someone needs to run and I can't cause it isn't build for Linux. Matrix is pretty familiar with that part afaik but I doubt he can run 2 Pitbosses.

Well, I'm not in this game, so it would merely be out of love. Sorry. [tongue] Besides, I wouldn't even know how to do that; probably work with different ports, but that's out of my league.

If the only necessity is to have a decent PC that is constantly online, I should be able to host it.

That and adjusting your firewall to allow a TCP port into the pitboss-running PC. Which sounds easier than it is, from past experience.

I think if you listen to what mauer did and then not do that you should have it sorted- he seemed to manage to do everything except get it to work!

Can I still play other cIV games, when my PC hosts a pitboss game? Is there a link to CFC to get info on it?

Matrix
02-05-2007, 14:16
Yes, you can. I suggest you simply run the Pitboss exe and see what happens. I don't know of any info thread at CFC.

By the way, can I join too? Or will that be too many? I'm about to get kicked out of another Pitboss, so that gives me room for another one.

matrix how many pitboss's are you in???

Stapel
02-05-2007, 16:22
Where do I find Pitboss exe?

And sure, Matrix, yuou can join.

My plan is to get this game started om 17 may. That day is ascension day, so we should all have time to join in and race through the first turns. Coincidentally, that day is also my 34th birthday.

So far:
-Stapel
-Beam
-Shabba
-Darkness
-BCLG (which timezone are you)
-Matrix

6 players seems ok! I'll propose map settings later!

CFC OT - Warlords? You're getting hammered, but you're still playing in that, right?

Ascension day is a Christian memorial day. It's supposed to be the day when Jesus ascended to heaven. Setting Easter Sunday as day 1, Ascension Day is always day 40, whereas Whitster Sunday is day 50. Whitster is the day where Christians celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to man.

Ascension day, always a thursday, is a national holiday in NL. That's why I thought it would be a great day to get a pitboss started.

Is it Warlords or Vanilla?

I am thinking about joining maybe.

That is, if you want a larger one.

But I might have the same problems as BCLG concerning the days around the 18th of May.

I've already put the idea of a 20 turn start on 17 may out of my head. So, you are welcome. Six or seven players doesn't really matter to me!

BTW: It's gonna be warlords.

One idea is to give us all a few settlers and workers similar to matrix's pitboss- will kick things off quicker.

are we going with random civs or picking them?

I'm not 100% sure yet. I think getting off with a worker in the ancient area is not the best idea, so I guess a three settler and three worker start in a later area might be best. My plan is to pick 6 or 7 balanced civs and let them be random distributed.

Please be patient! I will be in rural France next week! And as we all know, rural France has no internet. They do have wine though! And roads!

[lol] Oh i'm being patient just getting discussion started.

How come you think starting off with a worker in the ancient era is bad though? tech level would still be down as you'd have to be paying maintenance on cities you normally wouldnt have :)

... and probably Sarkozy as President by then. [blush2] FYI, he recently told about his hate of the NL society (drugs, homo rights, euthanasia, etc...) with a real distaste in his mouth.

Sorry for the threadjacking.

Yeah Sarkozy sucks for that reason. A lot! Bayrou should have been chosen.....
Despite his backward conservative views on social issues, Sarkozy is better than Royale, whose only goal is to even further destruct the French economy. How people with fuctioning brains can vote for her, totally beats me..... The only logical explination is an utter hate for la Republique Francaise...

Well Krys, wanna join the Pitboss?

I don't have warlords and I won't get it before the next expansion if the price is still that high (haven't seen it below 20 Euros here although the next expansion is coming soon)

With all those Dutch people, a German like me wouldn't stand a chance anyway ;)

It's fine with me if we play without warlords. Otherwise, I call Korea. I'm ok with to start without a worker, but an additional settler would really speed things up. No tech trading is also very nice.

BCLG100

i wouldnt mind a couple of workers tbh and three settlers, with tech trading off this will definatly keep tech level normal.

shotgun huayna! :)

Not with me. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif Sorry to spoil it that way, but with the new expansion pack coming I don't want to end up playing Pitboss games on three different versions, let alone also miss out the (small, I admit) extra's that Warlords offers. You may still play vanilla, but then never mind about me.

I would also prefer warlords...

... The other one (more reasonable) is an utter hate of Mr. Sarkozy's ideas on so many subjects, much more grave than economy. I agree Bayrou was the best one.

Nah I'm not joining. I don't have Warlords, and I don't like the PitBoss format.

Well, it's obviously not her goal to destruct France, but can you explain to me how her plans would lead to that? I think Royale would be better than Sarkozy, even though I'm not a socialist, simply because Sarkozy addresses the cultural/social issues completely wrong. France needs a mental metamorphosis, and Sarkozy might just offer it. Example: finally she admits that the agricultural subsidies should reform (or just disappear). Although France benefits from that, it's that kind of protectionism that keeps France behind in a world with increasing globalisation.

I have been to an accelerated start it was quite a challenge to get all players going. The difference is that there were 12 players to get online at one time. Eventually we got everyone on, but that took about one hour to get past the problem and we eventually got about 14 turns done in that time, until we got a Out of Synch problem meaning that we eventually had to just go back to a normal pitboss set up. This hopefully does not happen for you, since there are only 6 players. This is just a warning that not everything goes right for a pitboss.
