Or "CDZ Earth"...

Anyway, here's my start:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth01.jpg

Not much to say yet. Of all the player I might just have the most amount of space for expansion, apart from the American civs. So it'll be a challenge to expand as fast as possible without putting too much pressure on my economy. After all, with no tech trading on, it's vital to keep on researching at all times!

Time for an update! As you can see the whiner akots has the top score, and my neighbour killercane (Casey) is at the bottom of the list. I'm not doing so well either, though.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth02.gif

Here's my home land, and you can see my problem: There's almost no grassland! So I have to irrigate all plains and only have the one commerce per tile for the rivers. I should probably go straight for Biology. [lol]
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth03.jpg

And here's the rest of my geographical knowledge. All according to expectations. I just built a trireme that's looking if I can get past Shabbaman. I should've built that earlier.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth04.jpg

Here's killercane's homeland. He has built a few units, which are whipped, as I can show you later. If you're whipping units that means you're up to something, or just very scared! I should have a chat with him about that.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth05.jpg

Now the charts. First the score. Nothing spectacular.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth06.jpg

In this power graph you can see killercane is rising in power.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth07.jpg

But as you can see here, he almost has no production at all!! So that's why I concluded he's whipping units.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth08.jpg

Here you can see GNP is problematic for me. At least killercane has got some floodplains. Why Shabbaman's GNP growth came to a hold is unclear to me. But with his cities along the Nile that will undoubtly improve in the future!

quote:Hi, killercane!

I noticed you're whipping to get more units. When someone whips for units that can mean only two things IMO: you're up to something, or just very scared. Which one is it? Rest assured: I have no hostile intentions. Africa is big enough for the both of us, and even for a little bit of Shabbaman. ;)

Kind regards,
Matrix
quote:Sure its a rise in power, from meager to not as meager! I have no intention of attacking you for many thousands of years. Do you want to sign a peace treaty and divide up the land?

Oh and thank you for Buddhism, it comes in handy as the only way to produce stuff is with the whip! Im certainly not planning on attacking you, I would have to wade through all that jungle and you can see in my capital anyways! Would you like to spread Buddhism to the rest of my cities and enjoy the benefits?
quote:Good to hear! :) Let's have Open Borders then, so that I indeed can spread Buddhism in your land, and you can have a look around in Straland. ;)

I won't have a shrine for quite some time yet though, so spreading it also doesn't really benefit me yet. Don't expect me to make haste.

Big update, although there's nothing spectacular going on in sub-Saharan Africa.

Here's a global picture. No contact with America yet. Although some might've made contact already. Robboo is eliminated by Stapel this turn. Mauer is sort of failing. Most of the resources between him and Shabbaman, and between him and Robi D went to them instead of mauer, and he's also very weak, so no chance of getting them by force. In fact, I suspect him to be eliminated soon.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth10.jpg

Here is my homeland. As you can see I only have five tiles with villages/towns, of which four are in the south. Most commerce comes from the gold and gems around Durban.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth11.jpg

In two turns I'll build the city of Bangui where the impi's standing, in the middle of the jungle. That's where I'll have to make money and perform research in the future! Other potential cities: Dar Es Salaam, Addis Abeba & Luanda. Where? Look it up. [tongue] After that: Perth?
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth12.jpg

Antananarivo, Madagaskar. ;)
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth13.jpg

The graphs
First the score graph, which gives the best picture of the situation. There's a Big Four: BCLG100, akots, Shabbaman and Robi D. Killercane, mauer and I are in second division.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth14.jpg

The power graph. Look at the free fall killercane made! Shabbaman eliminated his entire (whipped) army in a single turn! Mijn impi stond erbij en keek ernaar. As you can also see, the power of the Big Four is rising rapidly.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth15.jpg
I suspect BCLG100 and akots are close friends, because they have the same religion and are too close to each other. Seems like a paradox, but my experience tells me that these kind of situations create the best friendships in the game. BCLG100 and Shabbaman were hostile towards each other from the beginning, and Shabbaman was saying he had to build a defensive army against two aggressors. One was killercane, the other one must be BCLG100. In any case, with killercane's ass kicked, I'm quite safe for the moment. :D

GNP. The new patch messed up the chart, so to make things a little clearer I'm only showing the last 50 turns. But look: the Big Four is suddenly a Big Three. Shabbaman's having difficulty keeping up! I'm doing wretchy [sad], but I don't understand why mauer is also.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth16.jpg

Production.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth17.jpg

And here's the painful truth. I have a lot of catching up to do. I suppose the best tactic is research those things they already have (which is usually the thing one needs the most ;)).
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth18.jpg

Here's my own tech situation. I have everything off the screen to the left and have nothing off the screen to the right. Currently doing Machinery, which I should have in about seven turns.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth19.jpg

Right now I'm trying the best I can to research as fast as possible. One thing that should help is the Buddhist shrine, for which I am cultivating a Great Prophet in Durban.

I don't suspect any danger will come from the sea for a long time, but will keep an eye out for what happens in the north, inland.

I have the Buddhist shrine! :D +14 commerce.

It's basically because I suck. I've come along ways from my first MP game, but obviously can't hang with you guys. Made alot of early mistakes that I discovered after playing a pbem with BCLG. He's taught me alot about the game in the last couple of months, and I'm certain I'd do a little better anyways if I were ever to play another Pitboss here.

Don't worry, I know the feeling. [lol] (See DDPP for instance...)

But that's the great thing about a site like this: lots of learning opportunities. :) Especially because people here are willing to teach you stuff, even though they'll be your next opponent.

Few things:

- I've built Bangui, Dar Es Salaam and Addis Abeba. I'm making a settler for Khartoum to, because

- I have agreed peace with Shabbaman until Mali is no more. [lol] He wanted to have peace even longer, but I didn't want to commit myself to that. But Shabbaman will have enough on his mind to his west, north and east, so I'm quite safe. :)

- I've met Beam and Stapel. :D Or actually they found me. So now I know everyone that is alive! Beam and Stapel are around my and Shabbaman's line on the score and power graph. There's still a 'big three': BCLG100, akots and Robi D.

Timbuktu is destroyed by Shabbaman. The stack they both had was huge! But BCLG100 also invaded Mali, but he will probably only get one worthless city in Western Sahara that killercane only built to obtain iron.

Shabbaman and BCLG100 both have grenadiers, and not just a few. [eek] I'm happy to finally be able to build musketmen. :(

Anyway, I've declared war on killercane as well, because I want Kumbi Saleh. Or actually destroy it, so that I can build a city one tile south to that, to grab as much potential grassland as possible. Perhaps I should be building a lot more settlers, if Shabbaman's gonna continue destroying killercane's cities...

Matrix

Casey/killercane is dead. I killed him by destroying Kumbi Saleh, and I destroyed it because I wanted the city one tile south. But BCLG100 beat me to it. [cry] [wallbash]

I'll have Astronomy next turn, then I'll try to colonize Australia. ;)

I'm still way way too behind in science, but there's nothing I can do about that. I have little to fear for. My most probable enemy would be Beam, in case he would decide to expand further.

Matrix

Beam is invaded by BCLG100 and offered me all his cities for my four Australian cities. I know how much I get annoyed when my enemy does something like that, so I rejected his offer. Also because I'm afraid BCLG100 will simply march on and capture South America after all, despite our peace treaty, and I wouldn't blame him.

But at the same time I also came to the conclusion that Australia is actually too far away to be able to defend it properly in case Robi D attacks. And he'll probably attack by the time Australia will be of any use to me. So I've made Beam a new offer: Australia for 500g per city. That's of course very cheap, but I like the idea of Australia in ownership of one separate civ, and 2500g is about one technology, so hell, why not? :)

Time for pictures again.

[u]My homeland</u> (Madagaskar excepted.)
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth21.jpg
I've got Biology since a couple of turns, so I've built a lot of cottages. :) Since I have Emancipation I'll have towns 35 turns later.

http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth22.jpg

http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth23.jpg
The list of units is what's in Khartoum.

[u]My colony</u>
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth20.jpg
I do wonder whether it was the right call to claim Australia, because it costs me a lot of maintenance now and by the time it becomes profitable it would take Robi_D very little effort to take annex it. But still I don't think he'd do that, simply because he doesn't need Australia now and will probably have other things on his mind by then.

In any case, there's a galleon on it's way to the east again with on board a settler and musketman for New Zealand and a great engineer for a forbidden palace in Canberra. ;)

[u]World map</u>
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/earth24.jpg
BCLG100 and Beam are still at war, and I believe they're still battling on South America.

But most important thing is that there is still a top three that is developing with an amazing speed. I wonder when they'll finally start clashing, if at all.

I myself am hopelessly behind in technology. There's no way I'm gonna catch that up, so I also don't see any way for me to win this game. I'm just gonna sit it out.

Here some charts:

As you can see here Beam made an incredible jump twice. I take it he's been upgrading his units there.

Good game Matrix. I'm a bit surprised you didn't try a specialist economy but the land was always going to make it difficult.

Also your appeal to everyone not to trade resources with me was a nice try :)

BCLG100
05-01-2008, 04:10
That city i robbed from you turned out to be my 2nd/3rd most productive city, you missed out on a goodun there :)

Im curious why you didn't think of teaming up with cane and taking on shabba? you'd have probably got my help too :) me and shabba signed a lifelong defensive pact at ~1200ad but before that i was looking longingly at his medina city!

Matrix

I reckoned Shabbaman would win, and I was too weak, especially techwise: no chance against Shabbaman's superior weapons, no matter what the production balance between us was.

And somehow I always miss out on the gossips and am unaware of players their plans for the future.
