Fantasy Baseball !!! wanna join?

sz_matyas as invited me to join his Major League Fantasy Baseball League. He has also asked that I Spam here to see if there is any other interest from other CDZ'ers.

It is currently set up through Yahoo with Rotisserie scoring. It's standard 5X5 except walks and holds are added making it 6X6, just to throw off all you people who actually did research making it a bit more fair for the rest of us who don't have too much spare time.

Baseball's rules are mostly unknown to me, only know some part of it....and those rules I have in mind are surely wrong...

I must admit I also did not understood a word after Yahoo, but it cant be that hard, you pick guys at the begining of the season. Is that it?

Basically you pick guys at the beginning of the season for each position on a baseball team and try and have them perform well in the regular season in a number of different categories.
Yahoo pre-ranks the players, so it doesn't require too much knowledge, but if you don't know anything about baseball it may be difficult to grasp some of the concepts.

The "Fish Shockers" are IN and ready to kick butt and take names. Please note my team name has nothing to do with "The Shocker" but rather my job of stunning fish and doing population surveys using a shock boat. how many players should we rank? I'm expecting to be there, but you never know when your kids will not go straight to bed...[:\]

Rank as many as you want. My personal philosophy is show up at the draft so you know what you have and need at any given time, i.e. do you need steals or power from your next pick. General thought is rank about the top five at any given position and it's pretty random after that, though I have never ranked more than the top 1 or 2, plus maybe a guy I really like that the league doesn't such as Fransisco Liriano last year.

Of course I defend my prelim a week from Monday (two days after the draft), so I haven't had time to rank anybody yet.

I was just looking at the draft timing and it apparently is set for 5:30 pm according to the countdown, but it says that it starts Saturday 8:30 pm EDT. Any idea what's going on there? I'll be available @ 8:30 but not at 5:30

Same for me.. 5:30 not doable.. 8:30 is likely

The draft is is for 8:30 EDT also known as 5:30 PDT in case you store your servers in california. However, new players cannot join the last couple hours before the draft. It is likely one of these two things that is confusing you. If you check the draft countdown clock it should come to the right time.

Well I even went in and checked my timezone in my yahoo profile and everything is pointing to EDT, yet the countdown still points to 5:30pm [confused]

It goes into some kind of lockdown a couple hours before the draft if I recall previous Yahoo draft leagues. That is what the countdown is for. The actual draft begins @ 8:30.

Yes and if you look it still says the draft is at 8:30 on the sheet even if the countdown is off

Pitchers and Catchers have reported to camp for all teams, so I figured I'd see if we wanted to form a league again (doubt I'll be as lucky this year). We still have over a month to decide, but thought I'd at least check interest.

Seems like there is enough interest to do a league again. Yahoo has been pretty good, so I think we'll use there setup.

Couple key questions before I actually get it set up:
1) Any changes in the settings desired? (Last year we had an extra MI spot and added walks and holds as categories just to shake things up a bit from the standard 5X5 and I enjoy the fact that it isn't mindless but that Yahoo still takes these categories into ranking players)
2) Draft day, I'm in favor of having it slightly before the season starts. I'm out of town the week before Easter, but back before the season starts. Figure that week is probably my first choice.

If you have any friends who want to play, feel free to invite them when we get it going. Having 12 teams is always more fun than 8.
