I done fired some spam tonight...

But was it 5 or 6 spamposts?

You gotta ask yourself one question.

Do I feel lucky?

Well do ya?

Do ya feel lucky punk?

Your posts make as much sense as they do normally, I don't see any improvement. I say this plugin doesn't work.

Well, that bumfuck asswipe ip-banning doesn't really stop the spambots, does it?

What makes you think I'd installed that one yet?

I've only put in the CAPTCHA text stuff for new users at the moment.

A little more time and we'll have a go at the ip banning one. :)

There is still light at the end of the tunnel, with a bit of luck it wont be an oncoming train ;)

Better get on with it, the bots are getting out of control.

Mel, while you 're at it, please clean up the mess they made too.

I'm taking to actually deleting the SPAMbot threads now.

Much quicker to do and no real loss to the site.

I'm going to sort this, no eta as yet though. Sorry guys.

I'm kinda at a loss as to how to stop this crap :(

could you make everyone a mod for the public forums. Then we could keep track and make it sort of like a game.

you could say post a thread at the other site asking how tf dealt with it?

The problem is that the other site does not use the same software. They use vBuletin. We have Snitz.

Personally, I think you should require that all new members respond to an email from the admins. The email you send could be cookie cutter form like below, but at least you'll know it's a human that responds to you:

quote:
Hi,
This is just an admin email from CivDuelZone to ensure that newly registered members are not spambots. We've had a bit of a problem in the past, and we're just making sure that you're a real person.
Please answer the following questions. Once we get a response, we'll activate your account:
1. In CIV pbem games, who is your favorite leader?

2. Do you prefer pbem games or pitboss games?

3. If God is all powerful, can He make a rock that is so heavy that He cannot pick it up?

The problem is that either

-the spambots have rewritten the forum software
-the forum software is fucked up
-Meli did some mistake when doing the Antispamcode

I have just successfully registered a new user "test" although I did enter the wrong antispamcode.

Well, that sucks. Perhaps fixing that will cut down on the chaf, but I'm pretty sure the spambots know how to get around those tests.

The email idea actually comes from another forum that I lurk in and it works pretty well. I assumed we don't get a lot of new member requests, so I thought that maybe the email thing wouldn't be too bad. I'm probably wrong, though.

I think Gra's idea is pretty good.

Looking forward to Dr. Lt. Killer's reply to #3 :D

Edit: Oh, so only new memebers, not existing. But still...
