In front of an ever growing competition in this age of communications, I shall begin posting a spoiler here, which is intended at being a better read, more thorough discussion, more insightful view on a more intense game than SW's one.

Now, I'd like to remind Blaze Injun (Henceforth Burning Native the Turk), Praetorian of the 3rd Reich (whose location was "Looking for BeF" on the other board), Tar-Mithanga the english (who is admittedly off the coast for his start) and SW of the Jivin Philosophin Greekin that this is a spoiler tread. No go.

Now, about the awkwards name: the original thread is entitled "Mind, Body & Soul." It was going to be 4 players at first, so I figured: one word each. Soul Warrior is obviously the soul, and I thought I'd pick the ampersand. So "Ampersand & of the Punctuation" it was. It looks like the other players didn't get it though, they kept their forum names.

As an adjective, I picked "Additive", which is an algebraic structure's prefix; all my cities will thus have algebraic structure names.

The start:

64.35 KB

The AI's I didn't check much, since on my first turn, there was a hut ready for pop. I set research on CB, cross fingers, and get Alphabet ... mort de rire. Research on writing, full steam.

I computed no gain from mining first, so I went across the river and roaded first. Curragh goes next after the grunt. Low food start, can't wait to get republic and irrigate two of those grasses for a 4 turner.

So Spain, Russia, America on top of Maya, England, Greece, Turky and Germany. Regent AS, so they are just there to fuel my research at start and hog a bit of land temporarily. I know SW will watch me closely and so will I him. The other 3 are wild cards, I'm not sure how I'll deal with them.

First thing I know:

89.48 KB

Second lux. That means I'm not making any kind of MP anytime soon. However, javs will be awesome for barb chasing. Raging barbs with 1/3 chance of slaving one every shot ... [estwing]

Best case scenario, I meet 2 AS and Praetorian, get a deal for WC and build up a military so that no one bothers me until I can mass horses. Worse case scenario, no one has WC, I need to research it after my philo gambit and will do so before republic. At any rate one of the AI's should have it, but it might be a bit late.

Plan is to play conservatively at start, escort settlers against raging barbs and all. Don't want to paint a target on my back - not right now. Use my UU for massive worker farming against the raging barbs. None of us have "good" timing UU anyways, except the Turks, which won't last to their horses. So I just might waste my GA too early, but I'll play this carefully so as to not get stuck with a despot one.

Gather intel, learn what the continent looks like, and start conquering when it fits best - which probably will the late horseman epoch (3 out of 8 have spears, so if I get one or two friends that didn't build those up enough...), but maybe the early knight one (the natives aren't gonna put men on these sipahis if I have my say on it, and there's nothing I wanna do against hoplites).

I doubt this game will last beyond cavalries. We all seem pumped for quick action.

First settler is going where my grunt sits his IBT, and I will make it right after the curragh. No time to waste on a town that can't get any more food. There's at least 4 despot fpt on that spot, so I want it running ASAP. If it has 4 I'm not going to bother with a granary, if it has 5 I just might. After the settler I'll make a worker, so that nothing is lost at city #2.

My first worker will road the dyes after he's done on the BG. Then he'll either go on a chopfest for town #2 or start building up for the next apartment buildings to the E and N.

Grunt 1 will hook back up to scout the first 2 rings from these scattered, friendly mountains. Grunt 2 will go straight south to meet buddies, and Sailboat the first will go for the canonical CCW map around the continent.

Looks good B. Hopefully those barbs will be there for the taking.

Met the greeks down south, greeted them and am about to sign a non-agression run to republic pact with them. Not unlike a MIA-KISS deal I knew. However I'm the mayans and not the celts; also I trust these greeks are not so lawyering about their endeavours. Up front we are trading his WC for my Mas, which gives him walls and gives me javs.

Pact proposed is a peace deal until fulfillment of a co-op, mutually exclusive (no trades with others, up to future agreement) run towards a republic slinger, with me going writing-CoL and him going maths - philo->rep. Also includes a sharing of diplomatic intel: who sits where and what's going on.

This will become interesting if we meet other civs early - especially if they don't like the sound of me and Soul working together at their expense. It will also be risky for me not going for republic myself, and risky for him as his position is more central, hence more prone to meet neighboring opponents early on. I'm up North, near the NW coast of the E continent in all likelihood. Soul looks like he's got the central W coast, if he has coast at all.

Ouch! Dude stop that shit. My eyes need a shower.

on topic I would not lead on to the fact you guys are partnering. Let them check the screens to figure it out. They need to make alliances too.

One of my friends had hell at his job for like the whole week after I posted it on his myspace [lol]

I am 90% sure Praeto will play agressively, I wouldn't be surprised if he went for a warrior-barracks-archer build. Taking the wild guess that the 2 others are on the other continent, that leaves us fresh and good to go. Good point on not making it blatant, but since I had Soul agree on non-disclosure of the partner techs, it might pop up sooner than later.

I do plan on making nearly exclusively military from my capital, now that I have a 5fpt city underway, so that by the time Praeto hits me I have javs and grunts to bully him back into his lands. Hopefully he gets discouraged by the hoplites and/or thinks I'm too far North to come hit us.

First town settle on the hill, and a border agreement between SW and I: basically, I leave him the desert and dry plains. Works for me. I played it tough during the negociation: I want it clear that we are friends and allies, but I'm not in the business of free lunches. Something ringed the "important" bell: he was talking about being short on land to settle. Germany has got to be really close, and I must settle my south before he jumps on it like the tiger he is.

A Jav is cooking, worker in base so I can chop a granary and irrigate the FP's in Commutator for a fast 6-turner. or a 2 turn worker. I don't think I'll be able to make a 4, but then the other silk town will also be a 6 turner, so it's very very good this way. When I'm out of despot corruption, that's 3 4-turn settler factories I have. Watch out the north.

The coast is receding east under SW, so my guess is the 4th guy of our continent, if any, is eastwards from me. I hope to catch germany with my curragh ASAP to trade for wheel, BW or some such. I'd hate to be stuck with javs if anything comes up, and I'd much rather have the ressources tech handy in case I need to put some beakers into war.

Pics will come some time.

Yay for CDZ back and running :)

No time for pics now but they WILL come, hopefully with a jive thrower storyline.

The first whacked barb was in the vicinity of Soul's, although he has not witnessed it:

I don't know how busy people have been exploring, but I have quite been walking the mile around, and I am within a few turns of meeting everyone on this landmass, most likely.

No Jive thrower action yet. Intel reports that the germans are down several techs on us, suspected run for HBR, Monarchy or Iron. I'd be delighted to have them research HBR or Iron for us. Isabella will most likely research Iron either way, and if either of them runs for monarchy ... can you spell technological hole for them ?

I plan on trading everything I can off from Bella the minute I meet her, keeping within the tech exclusivity treaty with SW. Hopefully she has Wheel as well as CB so that I can get more than the one CB. She most likely went BW and WC though, so that leaves me with just a bit of suspense and hope.

At home, the plan is to get these 4 flood plains flooded and worked ASAP. I have 2 workers on the field, busy chopping granaries. Republic will hit soon and this will mean a lot of food for the settlers. Misfortunately I have no extravagant food supply, so I'll have to rely on the FP I have along the river bank.

SW has a long FP river I had not seen beforehand on his side of the river - not that I could have claimed it before him anyways. He visibly ran for a granary first, no 2nd city yet, and he had barb troubles, so he's down the hole right now. I sure hope he comes back, because there is only so much I can do if the 2 other guys team on him.

Dude Whomp, what's up with the topics in your thread not getting subscriptions? I mean, in a more standard english, whenever I post in a thread, I get subscribed, but not to threads in this forum. It might be bigger a problem, but it definitely goes for everything in here.

... [confused]

Beorn

I figured it out, Whomp: you must not have "enable subscriptions" in your forum options. Little pen to the right that doesn't appear near the other forums.

Anyways, I got my board and I'll keep going there.

Thanks a lot !!
