Haven't got much to say about this, since I'm not very involved in this game. Most of 'em I don't know. Besides, why do all Pitboss games have to be one big chunk of pangaea? [sad]

any ideas why some people are doing so crap?

I guess they all suck. [mischief]

Some had a really bad start, though. FortyJ, HitAnyKey and grimliin started at the tip of a narrow peninsula, with only two land tiles within the city radius of their capital. HitAnyKey and FortyJ are also at war with each other. [rolleyes]

Alright, things are pretty much the way they were. However, lot's of diplomatic stuff happened these last few turns.

First of all HitAnyKey has been eliminated by FortyJ. Hats off.

But now my surroundings. I have lots of neighbours. I'm save on the south east. Corossol is big and has no need for expansion.Plus I can tell from his words and his actions (one recent tech deal) he meant it when he said he wanted long term peace. However, he already had all the allies he needed, so he couldn't commit himself to a defensive pact of some sort. Great Cottus Arci and Rakkasan21 (who has recently been replaced by HitAnyKey(!)) are at war and will fight it to the bitterend. I have agreed with HAK on a non-aggression pact for as long as they both are still alive. And HAK is on the winning hand. But it's gonna take some time before he eliminates GCA, I reckon.

Now the other side. At the early beginning I asked facehugger whether he'd like to ally with me with niamor as our first potential enemy. He declined, saying it was too early to bind himself against anyone. Now he doesn't reply to my messages anymore. Niamor has never been reachable. Emperor did respond to a diplomatic message, however. He said his starting location sucked (I'm not surprised.) and he's basically a puppet of niamor.

Then Taruka Wasuncha (or White Elk) came. He said facehugger, niamor and Emperor are in it together and that we should join forces. Finally I had an ally. :D It fell in my lap. But the message that came with that was disturbing. "Niaemps", as he calls the opposing alliance, have plans against us. That was my estimation as well. We agreed to keep it defensive for now, but whenever one of us is attacked, the other will attack from the other side.

Taruka already has two allies: Steiner-Davion and FortyJ. Now it's the four of us. :)

Good luck. It looks like a crowded neighbourhood

This is just me but maybe you should think about 'offence being the best form of defence' and launch an attack of your own.

Also just what civ are you???

L'etat, c'est moi. [king]

And offense being the best form of defense doesn't really work in Civ4, we think. It's much easier to fight off an assault than to launch one yourself.

yer while its true to an extent, eventually your going to have to declare war on someone, it is a hell of a lot easier to do that pre engineering (not sure what tech level your at) because they only have 2mp on roads. After that its 3. Straight after cats is an ideal time to launch an attack.

Oh my, I haven't updated this game for far too long. I'll start with the world map:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/evg01.jpg
As you can see. Mongolia, Persia and Korea are gone. HitAnyKey took over Germany and GreatScott the Inca.

There are now two major alliances:
WEAP: Fosse, Obey, Herandar, fluffymatt, HitAnyKey, grimliin.
UCDN: Corossol, Matrix, Emperor, niamor, Spike and Eludicus.
CB and DaveShack are independent.

WEAP announced their alliance publically. UCDN did not. They should know by now we're on a friendly basis at least.

Here's my peaceful land:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/evg02.jpg

But on the other side it's brouhaha. I'll show you later. First of all I'll tell you what happened a while ago. As said, CB has no allies. That made him become very backward. My allies allowed me to try and conquer him. I attacked him with the large stack of cavalry (which would soon become obsolete because of tanks), while he still had camel archers at best! But WEAP did not like this development, so they gifted him some units, which quenched my conquest.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/evg05.jpg

Also, in reaction, HitAnyKey saw his chance of capturing Beca, which I indeed left rather ill defended. That's what you can see on the image down here. But there's a lot more to see here. The list of units is in Beca. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif But I just destroyed one of his cities this very turn. :D Apparently he forgot I was able to reach it with fast units. Corossol already destroyed Münich two turns ago. So it's going rather well. But the units just south of the machine gun in the lower left corner are gifted by fluffymatt. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/cringe.gif
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/evg03.jpg

Finally, here is the most the rest of HitAnyKey's land. The units are what Corossol has in his stack, with which he destroyed Münich.

And now, in the heed of the battle, I am about to hand over Straland to Whomp for two weeks, because of my absence. But I can hear from Spike what's the status when I'm in Durban. ;)

Haha! Great I get to fight a little bit. Thanks! I will check in with Corossal to let him know I'm on board. This starts on the 18th correct?

Matrix

You probably get to fight a lot! [eek] My heart will probably skip a beat when I'm back and I log on. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/frightened.gif Not that I don't have faith in you. ;) It's just that a lot of things happen in one turn at this stage...

So how are things going? That was a weird set of turns for me. Plant one city (should be a good one btw), take two that will be solid cities, lose one worthless one to culture pressure and two faraway crappy ones that are razed. I think health is the only thing that's holding you back Matrix. I'm not sure you'll be able to keep pace with the big boys without some food. What are the thoughts?

Sorry, but I finally have an update for you. :) Again: thanks for standing in for me. I actually met Spike in Durban and he said you actually did better than me. [tongue]

Anyway, here's my (our) newly obtained piece of land, fully in development.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/evg06.jpg

And the rest and older part of my empire. I also still got that useless city of CB, by the way.
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/evg07.jpg

Yes, health is a problem, but not a biggie. I've built hospitals. Why did you actually build Coal Plants? I'd say it would be better to build hydro plants or nuclear plants, because of the pollution. Anyway, as you can see, I'm getting ready for the space race. I don't think I'll be able to build the Elevator, so hopefully everyone will be smart enough to attack the one who gets it, because if we don't, that person will win.

It's still UCDN against WEAP. I'm still at war with Obey and HitAnyKey, but haven't fought since HitAnyKey is kicked off this continent. Corossol has conquered Rome, by the way.

On the negative side, Elucidus is getting his ass kicked:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/evg08.jpg

Basically there's not much we can do about that. But to be honest I don't really want to do anything about that. At this stage of the game it's every man for himself. There can be only one winner, after all. So I'm going to be a happy part of the UCDN, being surrounded by allies and try to win the space race. I don't give myself much chance to win it, but it's the best shot I have to win the game. Collectively clubbing the owner of the Elevator will be a key factor.

Here's the world map, if you can figure out the colours. [rolleyes]

Hmm. I should've built hydros. Sorry.
I did learn from Davemcw that building heavy production cities for space parts is key even if it means starving the city (IE building workshops) so you may want to consider that once Apollo finishes.

Keep up the good work!

- Great Scott is replaced by Kingpin, after an absense of 13 turns. [sad]
- Elucidus is wiped off the continent.
- Both my cities in CB area revolted back to CB. [rolleyes]
- I revolted: Organised Religion and Environmentalism. :) The economy isn't of much importance, because I get all my techs from Corossol, who's got internet. The only important thing is that I build the space ship as fast as possible.

I noticed from the log when everyone has completed the Apollo Program:
1740AD (270): Corossol
1804AD (282): Matrix
1814AD (287): Fosse
1820AD (290): fluffymatt
It's now 1822AD.

So Corossol started 12 turns earlier than I did and also has more production and more cities than I have, so it's kind of a hopeless cause. The only thing I can do about it is attack him. But I wouldn't get any support from other UCDN members. Niamor, Emperor, Elucidus and Kingpin know they don't have any chance of winning anyway, so their only goal in the game is to get as much success as possible as alliance. And if Spike would send his troops to Corossol, he'd be attacked by fluffymatt.

It's best to accept my loss and get comfort in the fact that I finally didn't get eliminated in a PBEM [rolleyes] and that the winner is on my side. And I'm in the top 5. :) Corossol and Obey are the best. Fosse, fluffymatt and I are all approx. third best.

Barring any unforseen circumstances, that should clinch it for him...

The space elevator and internet make it a done deal. I wouldn't be surprised if this was over very soon.

But the fun hasn't ended. Right now we've started a massive march against fluffymatt. :) He's getting his ass kicked big time! But I fear for the retaliation of the rest of WEAP: they have a lot more info on our whereabouts and might just kill our entire stack from one moment to another. Right now I don't think they're in the position to do so, but perhaps later they are. They know more, so they can plan it better.

Game over!

Score: 2566 (normalized exactly the same), which means I ended fourth. But I was the furthest with my space ship after Corossol. ;)

This was a great game! :D

Indeed, this was a great game. At least Corossol was in our alliance, so it was sort-of a team victory for us. :)

Good work you two. It was fun subbing for Matrix when I did because I got some great war turns in.
