Talked with Kemal last week, he was up for a succesion game. After fiddling around a bit in Civ4 I'd like to play one as well: I usually play much more concentrated in SG than in SP and I wanna see all you experts at work: so I expect to learn 2 ways here.

Anyone up for a game?

confirmed Participants:
- Kemal
- BCLG100 (but might skip a few turns the 1st weeks
- Grahamian
- grs
- ProPain
- Furiey
- Beam
- Shabbaman

confirmed lurker
- Whomp

Suggested Settings
- emperor
- standard map
- continents
- 7 opponents,
- random leader (that's what civ? PP)
- standard speed
- no predetermined victory conditions.

Play order: I suggest we use the order in which people applied as it's as good as any. One exception though, I was in first place so I moved myself up a few places as my Civ4 experience is low and I dont wanna screw up the game from the start.

I'm currently playing the SGOTM, that takes enough of my time. And I'm no expert ;)

Propain I would love to play but am overwhelmed right now. Maybe you could leave one open slot for the lurkers.

I'm no expert but I would like to play, I'm playing SGOTM01, but have been thinking of getting involved in another succession game.

What kind of difficulty would you guys be comfortable at? Getting a good challenge is key to learning fast I think, during the discussion with PP the Sid-SG we played (and lost) got a mention as well and it was loads of fun plus I think a good learning experience.

Since imo civ4 difficulty levels are much more difficult than civ3's, I'd like to suggest playing emperor and see how far we can get, though I do not know what kind of level you people would prefer. Immortal is possible too though the chance we'd lose is a lot higher, with random conditions.

My own favourite conditions would be large map/continents/7 opponents, but will go along with the wishes of the majority of course.

Looking forward to playing a SG again. :)

gotta say id prefer a standard map just because my PC runs so very slowly the bigger maps. Im normally a Prince player so whatever level im gonna be badgering you all what to do :D Emporer would be a challenge but ill give anything a go :)

Are we going to have any special conditions or is it a just win game?

Are we going with a random civ or are we going to pick one?

emperor is fine with me and we should just choose a random leader

Kemal

I think just a win game would be best if we want it to be a learning game. Random leader is excellent, and I know what you mean BCLG about slow running... I'm playing the game on a 384 MB 1.4 GhZ pc... even though there's imho much less of an epic feel about the game, standard map may indeed be best, I agree.

Talking about epic, I do presume we want to play normal (standard) speed?

yer thats probably best. Are we having barbs? I always forget about them in my games with barbs on, whoops :D

Sign me up if slots are still available. With time available I can handle another SG. :) Emperor fine, don't care to much about the other settings.

Do we want the map pre-checked or take as-is?

Kemal
12-06-2006, 19:47
Take as-is I'd prefer, if we want it to be a learning game we need to have all the regular obstacles, after all.

Normal speed, random leader, standard sized map and emperor level are all fine with me.

Furiey

I'm getting there on Prince in single player at the moment, but would be happy to play higher in a succession game.

So if you'll have me, normal speed, random leader, standard size map and emperor would be fine with me.

Sorry, but I disagree. Civ4 has so many options, from civics to tech tree branches to city specializations that SG's can become quite chaotic if the victory condition is not determined from the beginning or at least very early on. I would suggest we either decide at the start or maybe pick a V.C. by the end of the 1st cycle.

Kemal

Well, isn't that simply one of the gameplay decisions civ has to offer, grahamiam? I.e. not game-setup related?

BCLG100
13-06-2006, 00:08
Yer, what we aim for will probably very much depend on what civ we get.

so erm, what are we waiting for out of interest?

BTW, if the start of this SG drags on for a week or so, SGOTM1 might have finished so then I'm available as well.

I'd join in, but I'm already maxed on other bits, I'm only a Noble player anyway, and I think I managed to tank my team's CFC SGOTM progress in my first SG participation so I'm going to shy away from SGs for a while.[blush][wallbash]

I think we may have already been going down the drain before that and I'm still trying to get there on Prince so don't be put off!

This game will be much different than the SGOTM team. There were communication issues there. I don't think you'll see that here. I'd join if there's space Igloo.

with the amount of players now we could have our own mini SGOTM here at cdz:D

damn work got me busy. I wanna play this SG for sure and update the 1st post tonight after work. I'd say we can start game setting discussion now. As I hardly know anything about the impact of C4 game settings I'd like one of you more experienced guys to kick this of.

isnt that what we were already discussing? :S

Updated the 1st post. Map settings seemed without much discussion, no major issues so I just grouped what was discussed in the thread.

Eight participants is quite a lot but that should allow us to switch places flexibly and keep up the pace. I preferr one game with 8 over 2 with 4 atm. If any of you disagrees just say so.

I'd say to Kemal: create that map and take that game away. I suggest we create a new thread for the actual game.

Add me to that confirmed lurker list...
If you really want to make 2 teams, I could help to, but otherwise I will just spam your thread ;)

Kemal

The first few turns are usually quite uneventful... shall I start with the first 10 or 20 turns? Also, with 10 turns a player, we'll need plenty of good discussion to keep everyone up to date, since any player will more likely spend most of the time on this game giving input via the forum threads and pics than playing actual "live" turns, I suppose. :)
