View Full Version : PBEM #3 - DemoGame PBEM Cage Match II *SPOILER*

This game was started on March 30, 2006 with Rik being map maker. Originally, it was donsig vs. Strider vs. Nobody vs. DaveShack. However, Nobody's computer access wasn't regular, and the group didn't want to play one-turn weeks. So, in proper DemoGame fashion, they had nominations for Nobody's replacement. The election was between Donovan Zoi, CivGeneral, and myself, and as you probably inferred, I won. So, I opened up the save, already to turn seven, and began my journey.

Here is turn nine, the turn I just played:

Nobody went for the early worker. Hopefully I can make good use of it.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted the picture... [blush2]

pity corleone wasnt settled on the gold hill, more trade and now that cow is just out of city range. Nice position otherwise.

Do I spy the governor on? [eek]

So have you actually done anything yet RM, or is this all nobody's doings?

Yes. RegentMan's MMing skills are diddly squat. That, and I always forget to check for civil disorder.

When I got the save, the worker had just completed and the wheel was already selected. The few tile improvements and the warrior build are my doing.

We're doing a nice turn per day so far. I'll post another update when my warrior is completed. One interesting thing to note: the world does not wrap around east-west. It's a true cage!

As promised, here's an update following the warrior's construction (Turn 13).

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn13.jpg

Should the warrior head straight to the hut, risking my workers' safety? I was thinking it should move 4-2-2, to the hill, then possibly pop the hut.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn13-Demographics.jpg

I MMed Corleone to this after the governor placed the citizen on a forest tile. Yea? Nay?

RegentMan
29-05-2006, 21:53
Well, my turn came in, so I moved the warrior 4. Donsig is now size two, so it either produced a settler or a worker. Perhaps disease as well?

Ginger_Ale
30-05-2006, 00:50
1st: I wouldn't pop the hut yet, wait until you found a city within 1 tile of the goody hut and you are guaranteed to not get barbarians...

2nd: Micromanaging...wow, fancy. ;) When you're at size three if you can mine that gold hill you might want a FP - FP - Gold Hill combo for lots of food and gold.

donsig wins the "Build the first city contest."

Turn 18 has come and gone, with Strider now making his first settler. That leaves DaveShack and myself with only one concrete city. I was planning on building a granary before I start settlers. Ideas?

wonder what daves upto, size 4 city, hmm

Ginger_Ale
10-06-2006, 22:53
I would build a settler first and then build a granary with the help of a forest chop or two.

Whomp

I think daveshack is going farmer's gambit by chopping an early granary. I'm with Ginger settler then chop a gran since your pop will drop but you will grow into already developed tiles so the chop will be well timed.

Strider posted a bit of gloating by posting the top five cities to show his second city is number five. Thanks for the demographics!

My demographics:

DaveShack has built his first settler, with mine due next turn.

Red dot anyone?

i like to settle earlier on resources, in this case horses but thats just me.

RegentMan
19-06-2006, 20:59
As a general ruler, I dislike settling on resources.

BCLG100
19-06-2006, 21:04
well how about near it then so you can get it under your borders? also is there anyway you can MM the city to make the settler take 2 turns to grow? that way you'll get the pop boost as well.

Whomp
19-06-2006, 22:11
Tighter placement RM. The most powerful cities you'll have will be along the riverbanks. One with the cows and 2 more could be placed on the river that goes SW. I would move your red dot 1 NW and plant 2 cities next to the fish and whales but after I get the rivers.

You also seem to have a couple of canal cities. 1 NE of the horses and 1 SE of the sugar.

RegentMan

Woot? Meh?

I think with a bit of effort you can squeeze in a few more cities-i like to have a really close build on the coasts-allows me to move units across incase of attack but thats just me :)

Turn 31 - I've met both Strider and DaveShack!

Strider offered warrior code, and I've sent masonry in response. Let's see if he accepts.

I offered DaveShack the wheel. Hopefully he has alphabet.

Strider's curraugh is NE of the whale near my warrior:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn031-Contact.jpg

I can see the general make-up of the map. My guess: Me in the north, Strider to the east, DaveShack to the south, and donsig to the west. It's about to get exciting!

BCLG100
07-07-2006, 02:27
are you not getting worried that they might pop them huts and get something from them?

RegentMan
07-07-2006, 08:59
That's a valid concern; something I haven't thought of. I guess it would be in my best interests to pop the ones further away from my cities. Anything they pop will be bad for me, so I might as well take a chance and grab something.

BCLG100
07-07-2006, 12:18
I suppose you could always leave the warrior there as a guard to make sure no-one gets through and scouts out your territory?

RegentMan
16-07-2006, 10:48
I have met donsig, making me first (?) to have contact with everyone. He traded me mysticism for bronze working, so I'm happy.

I finished the granary, and am now ready to pump out settlers. Here's a revised dotmap for the closer areas around Egypt:

Third city founded: La Ville de Ginger_Ale, to celebrate the MTDG. I'll go through the Civ III MTDG's teams next, followed by Civ IV's. Team Doughnut, you're up next.

Regent, why don't you do diplo in other channels - like irc or msn. You are wasting time with your backandforth diplo ingame.

Time=gold/research, shields and food

RegentMan
01-08-2006, 05:17
Well, in PBEM, I'm content with PM or e-mail. I use irc and msn in ISDG and MTDG type conversations.

Out of curiousity, why the sudden question?

Here's turn 44:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn044.jpg

I'm at zero science because DaveShack and I have nearly hammered out a deal where I can trade for writing. Strider also has this tech; my offer of mysticism went deleted, so I assume it wasn't a thumbs up. ;) So far, Dave looks to be my best partner, as he mentioned he'd rather trade writing with me.

We shall see.

Oooh, my city sure is pretty! I wonder if it's a coincidence that it's next to some wines? I need to play you some day in MP so that I can officially say I'm better than you. :D

BTW, I can get onto CDZ here but not CFC (weird) so I'll chat here. Man I miss those forums.

RegentMan
09-08-2006, 19:08
Wines and fish... what more could you want? And is that a challenge little boy? Cause I'll beat ya. :D

That's interesting, getting onto CDZ and not CFC. I guess this isn't a game site. ;)

RegentMan

It has been awhile since I've updated this game! [eek] We're still playing strong. Well, kinda strong; two or three days per turn. Here is Turn 63:

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e194/TitanicWhiz18/PBEM/Turn063-Egypt.jpg

I have instructed donsig to remove that aggressive explorer. I find it weird, as we have a trade agreement worked out. So do Strider and I (<s>denotes completed trade</s>):

Strider and RegentMan
<s>He gives Philosophy. I give Mathematics.</s>
He gives Code of Laws. I give Currency.
He gives The Republic. I give Horseback Riding and Construction.

donsig and RegentMan
<s>He gives Polytheism. I give Mathematics.</s>
He gives Construction. I give Currency.
I give Horseback Riding.

Thus, after currency, I am going to grab horseback riding. Maybe I can get map making from Dave and trade my way into the middle ages a republic.

Anything exciting thus far?

RegentMan
25-10-2006, 01:22
Nothing too exciting. I've played three turns since the last update, and all I've been really doing is moving workers/units around. With that rate, I bet the next update, when I have currency, won't be for a month or so... [sad]

Although I do have a settler to build a city 2S of La Ville de Ginger_Ale next turn: Team Aloha. :)

RegentMan
05-11-2006, 20:23
donsig will be on holiday for ten days ( :( ), so here's my current view of Egypt.

I said I'd post an update when I researched currency, and I have now researched it! donsig and Strider are ready to surrender their respective technologies.

Turn 75

I'm on top of updates today! [hammer]

Turn 82

I am waiting for Strider to finish researching the republic. The fact he hasn't been in contact with me since I offered him the technologies on the trade screen is getting the paranoid side of me going.

More cities are being founded. I want to get my land filled up as soon as possible.

Here are the north and south views of Egypt:

RegentMan

We've been doing a solid turn a day for about a week now after a few slip ups.

Turn 95

I have had my first taste of treachory. Strider has finished researching the republic, so the turn before I sent over the two techs I was supposed to (unaccepted): horseback riding and construction. I open up the next turn, and lo and behold, he offered the republic (unaccepted). But my techs were not there, which means he traded republic for those another way (to donsig). I was rather :( .

But this turn, I open the save and donsig has sent me the republic accepted. I take it and begin a revolution, to be finished in two turns due to my religious trait. I'm going to try to get a closer relationship with donsig going.

Regarding cities, I only have Team GONG left before I've used all of the MTDG teams!

RegentMan

Team Doughnut is 3SW from the capital, Corleone.

Team TNT is the southernmost city in the screenie. It's the chokepoint city, on a hill. No one's invading via land without stopping there first!
