So.

Undoubtly more of you have the urge to shoot people in the head after the tedious micromanaging of civ. Personally I vent some steam in Battlefield 2, and I know that meli has spent some quality time with Unreal Tournament.

Anybody else?

I suppose Doom, Duke3d and Blood are all a bit too old-school to be taken seriously? I have some very good memories on these (especially the last 2), the last 3d shooters I really played were Unreal and later Half-life, which I both think were quite good as well.

Not Doom 3, that was a big disappointment. [sad]

I was never much of a first person shooter. But I tend to prefer the WW2 style ones - Call of Duty and Brothers in Arms
I can't play them for very long, the get tedios very quickly...whilst Civ never seems to get tedious..until the end game[mad] but thats cos is a huge map with 18 civs [blush].

My PC is getting a bit old for decent frame rates on the newer games. I hope to upgrade early next year

Battlefield 1942 is a great ww2 shooter. It's an ideal setting for a war game imo. But were you playing online or single player? Online shooters are just more of a thrill than shooting st00pid scripted bots.

Tactical Ops
Unreal Tournament
Doom
Those are the three games I still play occationally.

Doom3 is beautiful, but more like art then action. ;)

I played Castle Wolfenstein back in my university days.... Bought Unreal 2004 a year ago in what must have been a moment of temporary brain damage. Played it for a bit and thought it was ok but it doesnt really interest me like TBS does.

UT 2004 is really one of the best FPS there is. If you're bored with it I'd buy it from you.

I've been playing GTA: San Andreas on the train.

Technically not a FPS, but I suppose it depends on how you play it ;)

Black Hawk Down as well I thought was a well thought out, nicely put together game. The sudden scream of "RPG! RPG!" when you know some skinny has you in the sights of his Ground to Air rocket launcher always gets me going. Also ANY GAME that allows you to use a mini-cannon is ok in my eyes.

I played some Wolfenstein when I was in Ireland 12 years ago. Glad to kill Hitler in his robot, and then I guess I grew tired of the genre. [tongue]

Half-Life 2 for me. Already finished it a couple of times, so now I just jump to my favorite Chapters or I play a mod. Saturday I revisited the Canal Chapter, and I especially love the part where your in the fanboat and they knock down a couple of really tall factory smokestacks into the river to try to stop you :)

Castle Wolfenstein and its sequel Spear of Destiny were very cool games those days and I only enjoyed early Doom as much (the chainsaw!). Racing sims much more pump my adrenaline now.
