8 PLAYER GAME - ALMOST READY TO START

Is anybody interested in starting an 8 player match. Most people here seem fairly committed to PBEM so i reckon we could start one that should go some sort of distance (hopefully to the end).

And we can have somebody generate a decent map for us all. [coool]

Well i'll be screening for reliable players. Well hopefully we can play on the newest patch, but i'm still stuck on 1.14. Lets see if we get enough players first, i'm already in 2 - 4 player games, so i wont bother if we can't get the full 8.

PS you 2 are reliable enough.

I was thinking we should recuit 1 or more players for back up purposes ie play out turns if we can't for what ever reason.

Not to sure if we should get just one or two and they play to our specific orders or we each have 1 back up player each and they can have free reign of our turns when we can't play.

If backup players, play under specific orders, then i think its ok for back up players to read spoiler threads...but not if they have free reign of out turns.

I think we might be ok with just a few backup players under specific orders

Any opinions from anyone???

I won't join this one, although I'm around a lot for turns right now I refuse to guarantee myself!! and I would hate to be the reason a game drops or slows.

I could probably be a 'backup player' if needed (it would be subject to availability, so if you get a better offer take it). I could even restrain myself from reading the spoilers if I know from the outset ;)

Random Civs for all is good. What about map size type ect...

Suggestions for other options:

Map size ...standard or do we want more room.

Landmass ...i think 2 or 3 large islands/continents or maybe 1 with a few choke points

Age: I like 5 billion years. I hate to much mountains and jungle

Difficulty...not so important..Emperor or Diety

Whats is i think.

Oh and Patch ...i got the dual boot system working today so 1.14 or 1.21.:D

We have Dr Alimintado and Skyfish as backup players, I am sure there are others who can play as "back up" but hav'nt said.

Nobody else has said anything about back up layers so here my game rules as to how we handle it. Feel free to comment on them and we shall modify accordingly:

1. We shall create a thread which everybody must post to when they have sent the turn (i don't think this should be a problem cos everybody in the game list post here everyday anyway)

2. If the player has not played there turn within 48 hours...we post the sav to the thread call upon the back up players to play the turn and send it on.

3. Players should post asap if they are not able to play the turn within 48 hours and organise for a back player to play the turn.


Also we need to organise the turns in order of time zones. Can everybody post the time they can most likely play the turn. We will sort it based on the earliest time each person can play (ie 7:30am GMT for me)

I can play b/w 7:30am and 4:30pm GMT

I've put cruise down as a maybe...if nobody else wants to play by next week cruise....then your in...If everybody is happy to wait a week then that settles it. Matrix seems happy enough and i can wait...if its one thing i've learnt with PBEM is you've gotta be patient.[cool]

BTW, we are saying 'GMT' when we are actually on summer time here, but I guess as long as everyone uses GMT to mean the time in the UK we won't get too confused. ;)

i think that is -5 hours, but i'm confused if it you have summer time or not. I can see the time of your post in GMT (summer time) (you probably see it in EST time) so if you post again and write down the time that you posted we should get your time and GMT time sync'd.

Weekends are no good for me either in general, so no worries in that respect

Unless you can play *any* time from 3.30 to 10.00 pm I suggest you give a smaller time band where you are most likely to be available. For example, there are 8 players and 24 hours in the day, so if one day you can only play at 3.30 and the next day only at 10pm we may get a little stuck on arranging times for the rest of us.

To all:
I think we must commit to hitting 80% to 90% of play-days. Weekends seem to be non-sceduleable, but we really should miss only 1 day every week or two, as any more and people will lose interest and the game will never finish.

I suggest that people state that they are prepared to be kicked (with no hard feelings ;)) if they consistantly fail to make turns on time.

Me first: You can kick me if I am lame in playing my turns. :)

ok...if anybody has been watching the first post, ive been editing the players in order of times availible. If i've got this right then there is a fair bit of overlap between the 1st 4

digger, killer, wildfire and matrix, so we will need to give better times we cn play...

i can play 7:30am to 9am weekdays about 98% of the time so i think i will stay at number 1.

Killer your times are a bit wide...can you break your times into hour slots and state your chance of playing within each hour...this will help slot you in better (i suspect you can play 99% but just to make sure...if so we'll put you after me)

Wildfire, will you be able to play before 9pm your time...that way matrix can play after you

Matrix has given us a 1 hour target..you can't do much better than that

Anarres has given us a 1 hour target..you can't do much better than that

Erikk can go after anarres, anarres just make sure you post by 8pm, that'll give erikk an hour and a half.

of course Mel and Cruise are yet to post so that could stuff things right up

Crikey organising this was a bit stressful, peoples time slots are a bit tight, now i know why 8 player games don't do to well.

If we get a turn in a day we'll be doing well. A turn every second not too bad.. hopefully no slower than that.

By the way except for Matrix ...i have seen all of us online around 21:00GMT on the odd occasion...so there could be a small chance we can organise some kind of power session. Although in my exeprience turns takes me 5 mins to play a quick turn, so eight of us at that speed would take 40 mins to get around to everyone.

You happened to miss me by accident; I'm usually available. I don't think we can play power sessions, but it might be possible to play two turns in one day once in a while...
