I saw there's a civ4 SGOTM (hence the thread's title ;) ) starting soon. Anyone interested?

I already signed up with team gator. Maybe next time I will sign up for CDZ.

Yes, Shabba, you are a bit too late and too slow. ;) I'll try to play with a Russian team this time. May be, next time it will be CDZ. Also, can you (or Meli) please transfer a few posts from the grs forum regarding the PitBoss bug discussion somewhere into the Civ4 area? May be create a thread regarding PitBoss issues?

@Akots: I dont think snitz is capable of moving posts around, so I sent you a PM about it.

What pitboss bug? I didn't want to go snooping around. since AFAIK, its in the mega pitboss game since that has been getting a significant amount of posts lately. Unless grs has an axe or 50 coming in my direction [:o]

Pfff, spare me, I'm getting old. But we're making a cdz team next time? It's about time to do something with civ4 for me, and a SG sounds like... cozy.

I'd join the CDZ team. I am not very good at Civ4 though.

Also, I only did a quick readthrough of the signup thread, but it looks like grahamiam might still be a free agent, in which case we would have three for our team.

I signed in.

i'll play on a cdz team. Samson signed up as well, so that should get us 5(shabba, bed, barbu, samson, and i) :)

Shabbaman

So we are playing this month? Then I guess I should sign up as well :)

grahamiam
04-05-2006, 15:09
yep, signup and list the team as well. Samson has stated that in that thread that he will be on a team CDZ, so no worries there ;)

Shabbaman

OK, registered our team. I'll make us a shiney civ4 SGOTM forum tomorrow.

Shabba, can you give me access too? (just to read. I'm a bit too busy to play atm)

Shabbaman

OK, a question: after closer inspection, apparently the civ3 SG forum is open for everybody. That's a bit weird, since I'm fairly sure that it used to be hidden. At a certain moment I was able to see it, but I thought that had something to do with, you know, my omnipotent übermod powers ;)

So for the moment, this subforum is open. Personally I think that's not that smart, so the question arises what access restriction we want (or need). Obviously we could set a restricted access with a participation list, but that has two problems: we need to make it hidden and/or use nondescriptive topic titles, and it doesn't draw a crowd. And the allowed list has to be changed for every next SG.
Another option would be to allow only members, but that's next to allowing every visitor. Perhaps it's best to make this thread into a admittance thread with a pledge thingy, meaning that you'd have access as long as you're not participating in an "enemy team", in which case you need to ask to be removed from the list.
In addition, I think we shouldn't make it hidden, otherwise no one would be tempted to sign up.

So why isn't the civ3 SG forum hidden?

I believe they were unlocked after the games had ended

I haven't played in a CDZ sgotm team yet, but I've seen the other threads after the games closed. Not sure we really need a forum here as last game, I think the team just posted at CFC.

barbu1977

Posting at CDZ is more convienient for the other teams.

Posting here permits our members to have a quick look at what's happening. It also makes recruitment easier. I know that if I had not seen SGOTM here, I would not have signed for the 2 last ones at CDZ.

All and all, I do not care that mutch.

I suppose we could just use a normal thread like every other team. I don't really check CFC that often anymore, whereas I check here at least daily, but if I had reason I would make sure to at least stop by our thread there daily.

Shabbaman
05-05-2006, 19:50
Well, when we have a thread here there are probably more people dropping by occasionally... Besides, I've made the forum already anyway ;)

@bed_head7: AllanH requested that you sing in at the CFC thread.

Socralynnek wants to be in our team as well. No problem, methinks. So the game starts in 6 days...

Samson

I signed up at CFC, and said that I would like to play here if you will have me. They have put me in your team, I hope that is OK? I am Ok at Civ 4, got the spaceship prize in 4OTM 1 and second fastest and highest scoring challenger spaceship in 4OTM [EDIT] 4 (I think).

Anyway, now I saw it...

@Beam, if you want to play, you need to signup @ CFC. 7 players is a good number :)

That's a lot of food...

Samson

So do we discus 1st turn moves etc. here? Anyone fancy the plains hill?

Shabbaman
09-05-2006, 11:35
That'd give us the cow, which is a must. Plus the river. What's the grey stuff two tiles left from the lake?

Done

The cow indeed is a must so imo the settler should move. But with this much food we might consider settling on one of the floodplains so the hills can be developed later for hammers.

Samson
09-05-2006, 12:12
I am a bit worried by health issues if we do not move west. The plains hill will give us 6 flood plains, which is 2 (?) unhealthiness. 1 south would give us 10 (3 or 4?) with could be a problem early game.

The extra hammer from the start is nice too. I think we will get at least 2 hills (visable grassland and the one below it).

Going west would also give us more space for a city this side of the mountains, eg. the desert hill.

Beam
09-05-2006, 12:29
@Samson, that's true about the unhealthy floodplains. According to the civilipedia it is 0.40 per fp so 6 fp would make that 2.4 and 10 fp 4 unhealthiness. Which is a strong plea for the hill SW.

grahamiam
09-05-2006, 14:35
is this forum open to everyone?

Shabbaman
09-05-2006, 14:41
It is now, but it can be closed. I just noticed there's a "special" SGOTM forum, so we could move there if that's necessary. But we're allowed to have a spoiler thread that others aren't allowed to read, aren't we?

Kemal
09-05-2006, 14:42
Seems so... and it is moderated by the elusive CDZ-admin anarres, who has been a rare sighting of late, will this be his comeback perhaps? ;)

If this thread is going to be closed to non-team members, can CDZ members still get access if they wish, providing they agree not to reveal spoiler info to others? Or would that be against GotM regulations?

Beam
09-05-2006, 14:59
@Kemal [lol]

My vote would be for a similar arrangement as in the ISDG so with regulated access for all. And a very warm welcome for everybody wishing to lurk or comment :)

No dude, this is the SG forum, not the SGOTM forum. There actually is a SGOTM forum, but it's so far down the page that I just discovered it recently. I created this one last week ;)

grahamiam

i would propose we use CFC's thread, but I guess we can just post in both. bedhead, socralynnek, barbu, and I have posted at the CFC thread, and we can expect all messages from the game admin's there as well. Also, all other teams will be using those threads, so we can cross post with the sgotm community after the game is done.

Shabbaman
10-05-2006, 07:39
Somehow CFC doesn't work for me at work. Errr... well, you know what I mean ;)

socralynnek
10-05-2006, 09:10
So, ok, how do we handle the discussion.

Discussing here and posting only the turnset summary and some screenshots at CFC like we did in SGOTM 7 and I guess earlier?
(It has the nice side effect, that the turnlogs are located directly behind each other for easier viewing)

Do we make a special screenshot thread s.t. we can put larger pictures there?

I think, discussing in both places wouldn't be helpful.

But we have to give Alan and Gyathaar lurking rights to this forum and inform them about it.

That's the thread of SGOTM 7 at CFC. We did most of the discussing here, so most of the posts are turnlogs from page 2 on.

edit: anyways, I gathered all the responses @ CFC and CDZ and put them in one thread for easy reading.
