I took over a slot in this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=159115) game from the AI which played the first turns as Gandhi. I have to say, it did an ok job at least. Some impressions from 2300BC:



My military is 3 warriors, 2 archers, 1 scout, 1 fast worker. DaveShack (hosting the game) is currently offering me another worker.
The settler is indeed unescorted - or to be more precise - its escort is beneath my archer. Due to the nature of the game I think it is of big importance who moves first. If I do, I can get the unescorted settler, if he does, he can build a city and of join the settler and the warrior. I am quite sureprised he did not contact me yet. The turn timer runs off in about 6 1/2 hours, so stay tuned :)

I have a non agression pact with DaveMcW (Mongols) to my northwest and yet have to contact my neighbors to the east (BCLG100 - Aztech) and west (Bengeance - Arabia).

The warrior moved to cover the settler, I attacked nonetheless (83,7% chance to win), killed the warrior for 2 XP and a brandnew fast worker :)

The Indian version of the worker. It has 3 movement instead of 2, but it does not do the work itself faster. It is still very good, since it can e.g. move to a forest and start chopping the same turn.

Bad luck :( I had the chance (70,1%) to kill another one of Dave's warriors, but lost doing only mild damage. I am at the process of forging some alliances around me.

It is 790BC now. I have made peace with Dave Shack under the following terms:

I get one free tech of my choice up to 300 flasks, one free tech of my choice up to 200 flasks and can define an area he is not allowed to settle for the next 3 turns. All in all I gained 2 promotions (each 2XP), one additional XP on a another unit, 2 techs I will chose later on and the fast worker that caused the war. I lost one archer, he lost 4 warriors and a settler.

Big shit! I built The Oracle, but got no free tech, since you have to be online when the turn timer runs out to get it :(

Well, at least nobody else can get the Oracle. But indeed, these kind of bugs are very annoying. And it had not been fixed in version 1.61 iirc.

As for me, I cannot even start PitBoss application. I've posted at CFC and tried to contact tech support to no avail. [sad]

hmm.. looks like pythonh has problems with cp1251 charset (cyrilic) .. perhaps try to switch your PC settings to english and see if that would make it work?

start -> settings -> control panel -> regional and language settings -> advanced .. then select the language version for non unicode programs
Perhaps see if 1251 ANSI is installed on your PC.. its on same settings page

Dunno if this will fix it thou

I tried without success since 1251 ANSI is there by default. That is a strange and weird problem since Civ itself is doing just fine.

Ok, I've fixed my stupid PitBoss. What I did is I renamed by cp1251.pyt to cp1251.pyt.backup and copied my cp1252.pyt and renamed the copy to cp1251.pyt. I can now play PitBoss! [dance]

Now, still the quality of the Firaxis products is amazing and especially is amazing the quality of fixes to these products that actually help. Might be there is a similar idiotic fix of the Oracle bug.

Hmm i wonder if the same applies to other wonders that supply free techs and techs that supply free great people.

I guess it is something special regarding free techs, because that is handled in a different way due to realtime tech trading and pre-conditions for being able to select techs. Great People are just an additional unit with no pre-conditions, so that seems different to me. Shortly after I posted the bug, Alexman from Firaxis asked for saves before and after the event, so they were obviously not aware of the bug and look into it now. Won't be any help for me of course.

I am doing fine anyways unless some other players team up against me. I will post an update with more info and screenshots in a few days I hope.

As he may have posted in another spoiler, Matrix is dead already. He got attacked by "the southern alliance", three players teaming up against poor Matrix.

This is my diplomatic standing:

DaveMcW - Mongols
Permanent alliance, free trading of all techs upon discovery. Open borders

BCLG100 - Aztechs
Mutual peace agreement untill 500AD at least. After that we must declare war 5 turns beforehand. Open borders.
I sent 12 turns of copper for Machinery. Deal will last one more turn from now.

Meleager - Rome
10 turns warning before the declaration of war. He is part of the southern alliance together with Roboo and Robin_D. The plan an attack on DaveMcW.

DaveShack - Japan
Made peace with him for 2 free techs of my choice one tech worth not more than 300 flasks and the other one worth not more than 200 flasks. I already chose the 300 flasks tech and it seems very improbable I will get the other one, since BCLG100 will attack him soon.

Saladin (AI) - Arabs
War. Just took Mecca from him. DaveMcW will take his northern town and I will take Medina soon.

Hatsheput (AI) - Egypt
Open borders. I may cancel that soon.

Saladin is dead now: I took two cities and DaveMcW the third. I am now at war with Egypt: razed one town, took one, two left to go. It seems as if many of the southerners are trying to get a trade embargo against DaveMcW and me in place. Untill now they failed. Last turn I was able to pull of a great deal with a monopoly tech (guilds), that would been around two turns later. After a lot of trying I finally found someone trading me two other techs. The Hindu holy cathedral was also built last turn, giving me 8gpt already!

The game will soon end for me. The alliance between DaveMcW and me was considered too powerful and a joined effort of almost all remaining players attacked me and him. My empire is reduced to four cities and will lie in ruins soon, despite having twice the military than any of my enemies; but, that is no help when you face four ot more attackers.

I should have posted my pretty empire once I had it :( Anyways, due to loosing the game on the diplomacy table, my empire is finally destroyed now. This thread remains a spoiler until the game is finished by all though.
