CFC thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=159115)

This is a Pitboss game with 14 players and 4 AI, 24h turn timer, simultaneous moves.
I am playing as Cyrus, Persia.

Here's what I've discovered so far:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/18p01.jpg

And here are the surroundings of my capital:
http://www.straland.com/images/cdz/18p02.jpg

As you can see little is yet explored, but I've already met five fellow players and one AI:
- Robboo (as Qin Shi Huang, Chinese) (his borders are in the left)
- Robi_D (as Alexander, Greece) (his borders are in the right)
- Sigma (as Roosevelt, America)
- Meleager (as Julius Caesar, Rome)
- DaveMcW (as Kablai Khan, Mongolia)
- Peter, Russia

Buddhism and Hinduism are have already spawned, but I'll have Monotheism the next turn and then I'll get Jewism. [cool]
I think that'll be very mighty: seven religions at max with eighteen civilizations. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/cash.gif

So, gained any friends yet? You re gonna need them to help you against envyous neighbours that want a piece of judaism...

A good stretch of rivers on one side, and looks like there is a river long enough on the other too

Unfortunately, desert in the west

How do you plan to develop?

I've got judaism! :D

I don't know exactly which way I will expand. My second city will probably be near the cow which you can see.

And Robboo addressed me asking for friendship etc; I haven't heard from the rest. But I think it's too early to make friends, nor enemies. We all gotta know a little more of the world. Cos in this case, the world is big.

I just built my second city. After the build, it appeared Meleager was going that way to build his second city. :D

I've met up to ten civs now! Only one of them is AI: Russia. Here you can see who is where (for as far as I know), plus a shoreline in the east, which gives the continent a little more shape.

looks likes its gonna be crowded.

Do you have some sort of dot map plan?
I'm not the best to give these suggestions, but a coastal city has gotta be good for trade and commerce.

By the looks of the desert to you west, that river may well form the natural border with Robbo, unless there is something nice near the coast and the river.

I've met Theoden. Unfortunately Bengeance has stopped and Arabia (with the Buddhist holy city) is now AI.

Tubby Rower asked for Open Borders a few turns ago. I accepted though I don't know where he is. But he moved right accross my land. [rolleyes]
I've asked for Open Borders with everyone who has Writing / everyone I could ask. So now I have Open Borders with Robboo as well. Robi_D didn't accept though he does have Open Borders with Robboo and Meleager. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif This concerns me. I've PMed him; hopefully he will respond.

looks like your linking up the road between Pasargadae and Persepolis. What plans with the worker after that? I reckon you need to shore up your defense a bit. 1 warrior is not much for holding a city. What about chopping for a few archers? Provided you gimp the growth of Persepolis, you wont need the health bonus of the wheat at the moment.

EDIT: replaced the word "settler" with "worker"

Matrix

Yes, building up defense is definitely what I'll do after these productions.
Note I'll be able to chop only as from the next turn. To be honest, the chopping option didn't occur to me, so thanks for the suggestion. :)

Bengeance is Saladin (i.e. AI) again as Bengeance doesn't have anough time to commit himself to this game.

RegentMan's German empire is located north of Theoden.

And I have Open Borders with Robi D as well now. :)

Meleager just declared war on me.

I will have four archers there when he attacks. I'm quite doomed. This sucks! If there's one game I greatly anticipated on becoming part of it's history it's this one. It's far too early to have to bail out. [cry] I'm not a sore loser, but this time I really hate it. :(

hmmm looks like your mouseing over roman territory to get those roman units..so there is also other units that can be added to the stack. Does'nt look good does it. I am not to familiar with the tech tree but Compass...does'nt seem to military oriented. Any chance you can upgrade those units? or is that the best tech you have?

Pastorius

Hm. Chop, whip and do everything you can to survive. If you are going down, at least die while fighting.

With such a crowded neighbourhood, you d expect Romans to at least try to use their UU, wouldnt you?

It may be that you have focused too little on mil.

But of course - sometimes they attack, and sometimes they dont.

Well, he's very early. I haven't had a chance to connect my horses yet, to use my immortals. I will be able to build immortals in a few turns, but that's probably too late. Pikemen and longbowmen are too far yet to research.

Matrix

Well, this was a short game. [rolleyes]

Well, you did not seem to chop a single forest to accelerate the builds of military. [confused]
Hence come the consequences, apparently. After all, it would be strange that this kind of game would develop peacefully. So, somebody had to be killed.

Pastorius

IMO, you asked for it by developing religion, and not chopping like Akots said.

Personally, I would have gone mainly military untill I could be sure that my neighbours would look elsewhere.

And I think Robi answered as he did because he wants to remain friendly to Meleager while the latter still has a kickass UU (Akots has proven Pretorian to be kickass IIRC).

But it could also be a luck factor - someone was bound to make war at some time. It could be you or it could be someone else...

How is your impending doom going..i see less updates now that your enthusiasm has been curbed by a few pretorains on your doorstep.

Hmmm, well there are some impressive names on that list Matrix, I read you didn;t fancy yourself as one of the best players among them, and if I may be completely honest (no disrespect) I think you're right.

It seems they just wanted you dead but had problems justifying their actions. It seems that it can be difficult to just tell a player that he needs to be removed just because it suits the other civ better, I've been down that road myself too, as PP might remember from the DDPP. Or maybe you have really good PR-agents indeed, though it didn't do you much good in the end it seems...

Anyway, thanks for the spoilers, too bad you're out as they are usually very enjoyable to read. :)

Wow matrix, that's a lot of trees you got there... I agree that it'd be better to sing the lumberjack song first... You could've gotten a religion through chopping your way to the Oracle (that is, confucianism), if you wanted to. Better luck next time.

Matrix

Does chopping also add production to wonders? [blush] (And they call me a good player...)

Concerning akots' remark: chopping for military production would not have helped me here. It was three against one. I should've made friends earlier.

Shabbaman

It does :)

Not sure how I missed this for so long....I never new the details of what happened on the other side of the continent. Didn't realize you were man handled so promptly. HA, and I made it to end game...and I suck, just ask Whomp, Robboo, or BC...

Matrix
20-04-2007, 12:42
Well, quite a lot of players of this game are also in the CDZ Earth game (Robi D, Robboo, BCLG100, you, me), so a good opportunity to take revenge. [evil]

Robboo
20-04-2007, 16:23
Of course you are so far away from me...we may not ever meet before one of us dies.

Matrix
20-04-2007, 17:49
Possibly. But I think because we can expand so much it's not like with other games where you either kill or get killed in a matter of turns, but rather win some territory or lose some territory. So I don't think anyone will get killed that quickly.

Robboo

I dont know...looking at the map some civs are fairly close and not all of them are in resource rich areas either. I expect a reduction by 2 or 3 by the time transoceanic troop travel is possible.
