I dont normally pay attention to what the AI says, but i happened to notice this one and it made me chuckle.

Digger, is that the Earth map you are playing?
If so, is it playable?
I always liked to play the Earth map with Civ1, maybe it's fun in CIV too...

I've played the earth map, as a scenario. Tough one, and very demanding on the computer.

Yes its an earth map, its a custom huge map, I downloaded it from CFC.

I have made it to 1600AD, I have uncovered, Europe, Africa, North and South America and North East Asia. It takes about 5 mins to load the game and about 30 seconds between turns. I am playing on 1024x768 resolution, I think i still have animated AI movement on and also have the effect animation on.

That'll probably get worse as i go along, but for me thats bearable it gives me time to think about my next turn.

You PC specs will have a lot to do with weather it is playable for you:
I have a 1.5Ghz Pentium-M (they run about the same speed as a 2Ghz Pentium 4) I have 768 Meg Ram. I have a GeForceGo 5650 - 128MB Ram. Its a dell 8600 laptop.

But there is certainly some hard disk space being used as well for temporary storage cos when i am playing the game the hard disk is doing alot of blinking

WindowsXP seems to be able to manage this well, after i exit the game i see a warning in the system tray about Windows increasing the page file because of low virtual memory (this is where the hard disk comes into play).

I should also mention it starts with 18 civs. But you dont get leader choices, ie i wanted to play as china, but only Mao-Ze Dung was availible and i wanted the other leader for the finacial trait.

The 1000 ad scenario that comes with civ4 is a world map as well.
