gozpel and I just started a game a few days ago, and have made it to turn 37 already, due to a 20 turn session to start it off and another 13 or 14 turn session on Sunday.

I play as the Dutch, and gozpel plays as the Iroquois. It is an archipelago map, emperor level AI, and no barbarians.

The start:

I have met the Ottomans and the Hittites, and share my continent with the Hittites. gozpel has jumped out to an early lead, due to building a settler before granary, I am sure. I opted for the granary first. My guess is that gozpel's way is better, but then again he probably would have out expanded me no matter what I did.

Turn 45 meet the Japanese.

The fact that they have writing worries me a bit. I am six turns from philo, and hope to be able to take map making.

The philo gambit failed, as I sort of expected. gozpel is out expanding me, but that is gozpel for you. The game slowed down a ton after initally going at a breakneck speed (as you can see from the dates of the first two postings, we played around fifty turns in the first week) as I had finals and such, and then the holidays.

I am doing poorly updating this thing. It is turn 117 or something. gozpel was just sneak attacked by the Germans, but he said it was particularly inept and now gives him an excuse to trigger his golden age. I, on the other hand, have no military to speak of, am smaller in land and pop and am behind in tech. Will take some screenies soon, but I figured writing this down here would force me to actually put something else up so any one interested (doubtful) could see what is going on. But I recently entered the Middle Ages and am now workign on Theology and an army to take out the Ottomans, with whom I share the island.

he also told me that you found him. so, do you have contact with all the civ's now?

Okay, it is turn 123, and I just discovered Theology, which I found gozpel lacks. As he reached the middle ages about 20 turns ahead of me, this is bad news. When combined with his golden age, I imagine he is not far from cavalry, which means this game could be over soon. I, at least, will have cheap Swiss Mercenaries which might be able to save the day should I find myself being attacked, but I am definitely at a disadvantage. My play this game seems to have been influenced somewhat by Civ4, as my build is much looser than normal, or gozpel's, and I stopped expanding for some reason when there was still open space. Here is the map:

and the tech screen, which doesn't have me hopeful:

Regarding grahamiam's question, I did meet gozpel as well as all of his southern neighbors, but was not able to garner much from it as gozpel seems to have been able to get ahead without any help from his neighbors. He has since reached my side of the map, and knows at least the Ottomans, and probobly Japan and the Hittites as well.
