Veselin Topalov, Bulgaria, has won a world chess championship in Argentina! He battle through tough rivals including the former champion Kasymjanov (Uzbekistan), vice-champion Anand (India), Adams (England), Polgar and Leko (Hungary), and Morozevich and Svidler (Russia).

Must admit, I was following this one closely and quality of the games played by the new champion is really impressive!

Congrats to Topalov, and rather fitting to have the person who beat Kasparov in his last official game becoming the world champion.

Now, on to the Corus Chess Tournament, where IIRC he as well as 7 of the world's top 10 players will figure again.

I'm not following this at all (the latest chess news I got was Kasparov's retreat). Was this a world championship or the world championship ? I can recall some fuss about alternative tournaments, disagreement with the FIDE...

Blah, with Civ4 coming, there's no way I can resume chess. ;) Not playing chess means I'm a badass. Do I even read philosophy books ?

These titles are indeed very confusing. Well, Topalov is world champion, that is all you have to memorize. [lol]

Kasparov/Kramnik are the strongest players though. Sounds complicated as it is but that is how it works nowdays.
