Shipping costs to NL is another $30.00 and that's a bit to much for my liking. I might find an evaluation copy somewhere prior to release in NL. ;)

Time to create a Civ IV forum!

I'm sure I can get you this new deodorant fragrance within days Beam! I'm sure firaxis won't disapprove as long as you buy it asap. Just look at it as compensation for PTW.

About the civ4 forum, indeed. But perhaps it's a better idea to rename the "civ3" tree to "civilization". I doubt a civ3 general discussion forum will generate much traffic in the future.

Just made a reservation for Friday (yes, the 28th!) at the e-Plaza shop in HC, Utrecht. [party] [dance] :D Price: 49,95

49:95 seems a little steep I pre-order at amazon.co.uk for £25 thats EUR37, and European release date is the 4th November.

Nice but a bit early considering I have to train (too) for our first PBEM... ;) I expect to be able to buy it somewhere early November.

I ordered it at a local store and will get an e-mail when they have it. The salesman expected it to arrive next week between wednesday and friday. Price: €45,-.

I don't think I'll pick it up until monday 7th. I have my last exam that day. ;)

I have to get a new computer to play civ4. I haven't really decided what I'm going to get or how much I will spend but I imagine I'll be playing civ4 on a shiny new machine by xmas :)

(was always going to wait for some of you guys to buy it first and find out if the mp is up to scratch of course)

A week ago there was a great commotion on some website that there is a civ4 downloadable online. It was some bad porn indeed. But size matched.

Barbu - George W Bush wanted to send the navy when Afganistan was invaded, so I bet the general knowledge of geography is poor in the US.

I think I heard Jesse Smith himself say somewhere that the game would be available throughout Europe today... so why would it be delayed to 31 october then? [cry]

we need it this weekend!

Shabbaman
28-10-2005, 10:36
Delayed? The release date would've been november 4th. Why (or: how?) would they push up that date if they can't get in store in time in the US?

I am supposed to be getting my game on the 2nd (so says Amazon). It would be great if it came on the 31st, though. I have two midterms that morning (back to back, to boot, and all the way across campus, so I'll probably be running), and it sure would be nice to have a nice break that evening.

Kemal

According to all shops I visited in Utrecht, the game should have been out today indeed, and the shops' suppliers told them it would be... however, for mysterious reasons, none of them have it. [mad]

Civ4 hit Paris and other places in France en masse yesterday, and plenty of our French friends of civfr.com and CFC got it. There should theorically be no problem for me to get a copy, except I want it at a lower price than a fucking 55 € !! :( As I'm not especially in a rush to play the game, I'm thinking of ordering it at amazon.fr for 52.90 € (and a 10-€ reduction bonus along). This would mean a few more days to wait though, and really, if I could get a job in the meantime so as to not be distracted by Civ4 in my job research... [blush2] But I'm not counting on that, I live in France after all.

Price in cheapest webstore I ve managed to find in Norway is 315NOK inclusive postal delivery.

Cheaper than civIII was when I bought that.

Done some calculating (with oanda.com):
In the USA Civ4 costs $50
In Europe Civ4 costs €45 = $54.3 http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/cringe.gif
Pål bought Civ4 for 315NOK = $48.6 ;)

How much British Pound does Civ4 cost? £30?

Ginger_Ale
30-10-2005, 14:04
Paal, if you have problems with a nVIDIA 128MB card, what will happen to me with a poor 64 MB? :(

barbu1977
30-10-2005, 14:47
I had problems with my MSI nVidia GF4 MX-400 (64mb). All the tiles where black

After upgrading the drivers FROM nVIDIA, NOT from MSI, it fixed the problem.

From what I understand, the game did not recongnized that the card could not do some calculations, after the driver update, upon loading the game, it told be that it could not run at the highest quality. It runs preaty smoothly.

Can any of our British memebers tell us if the online store play.com (UK) is a reliable one ? They sell Civ4 for £ 17.99, ie. € 28.99, according to their site, and that includes free shipping if I understand it correctly. They seem to be located on the island of Jersey, which should include special agreements for them. It seems they ship almost all their goods (except "electronic" and "gadgets" stuff) to many countries in Europe. Does it include free shipping to Europe as well ?

Simple question to sum-up : Am I to expect to get the English edition of the game for € 28.99 within a few days ??? [hmm]

Civ IV seems to have a first time feature: Identical Map Generation.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=135551

OMFG. If this is true I really hope there either is an easy workaround or an overnight patch.

Kemal
31-10-2005, 19:06
Well, it would certainly not be a first since all random maps are merely have a certain seed and when such a same seed is obtained by the random generator again, you have the same map. There have been reports from as early as civ2 of identical random maps, I experienced one myself even in that game.

In this case, there seems to be a malfunction in the random seed generator, that will definitely be fixed in a future patch. In the meantime, with the amount of parameters you can use to create a map, there should be an abundance of maps available even with this dodgy generator, I suppose.

Are there Dutchmen with a Dutch version of the game already? In ERIKK's thread they said the tech tree and manual is in Dutch. :( Don't know if it's true, cos no one has the Dutch version yet, although the game can be bought at Dynabyte and possibly Mediamarkt already.

Matrix, you say you saw the game at Dynabyte today??? That's nice, strange the other shops need many more days!

Kemal
01-11-2005, 16:00
It is true, the manual and tech tree will be in Dutch, and it seems it is pretty lousily translated at as well, possibly by a machine rather than a human translator. But all translations of games to Dutch are poor, so that is no surprise.

If possible, I'd say try and get an international/US version somewhere, since especially the tech tree really seems to be worthwhile, and having it marred by bad translations would just be a big disappointment.

I have it!! [dance] From DimensionPlus (http://www.dimplus.nl/).

Indeed, the manual and tech tree is completely in Dutch. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif The translation isn't bad at all though! It's just very inconvenient. When you want to look up "Pottery" you need to find "Aardewerk". Ironically in that sense it's actually handy it's still ordered alphabetically according to the original English term. [crazyeye]

I started an epic game. Think I'll go for normal from now on though. I first started the tutorial, but that started so very much from scratch that I decided to try and learn the game myself, but I gotta say that's not easy. Or, the toughest part is finding (new) effective strategies. I probably end up learning from you. [blush]

It's funny to see all these familiar nicknames in the credits under beta testers. :) On name surprised me: "Kemal"! I didn't know you were beta tester! [eek]

Well, I hope you have the right specs because it might be a big disappointment once you get it. For me, the choppy intro movie was quite a disappointment. I now have 4 gig virtual memory and playing a standard map runs ok now. But it's only in the beginning of the game yet...
