So do you want me to post my spoiler info here as well or should I start one for my civ in Mistfit's forum?

We can use this thread for both.

My initial thoughts on Civ's would be Iroquois and Arabs to have a great UU for both the begining of the game and the end... But if the game does not last until then that would kinda suck.

My second thought was to have the Iro's and the Japanese so whom ever had the Iro's could immediately see the horses...

what are your thoughts here?

Edit
Why can't I subscribe to this thread?

Mistfit's and my plan are for me to race for Monarchy (I am the only one with a head start due to Ceremonial burial) in this locked wars game, while Mistfit goes for the Wheel + WC + HBR. If Mistfit would have been the first Iroq nation to play, he would have tried the Philo-race. We decided that Monarchy is the best gov as War weariness will kill us in Republic.

Mistfit will protect himself and me with his Mounted Warriors till we have Astronomy. Conquistadores with their 6 movement, regardless of terrain (they evne have 6 movement in enemy lands) is so useful to take out the enemy kings (Regicide game) that it can be a possible game-breaker.

Here are my lands + minimap.

Nice start are you on a gold hill?

I will post my start when I get it... Hopefully tonight when I get home.

Do we post in the open thread every time we pass it on?

Edit after brief MSNChat:
No it is not a gold hill (normal grass)

Plan - Accept CB that Rik sent me. Gift my techs back to him. Start directly on wheel. should be less expensive due to Japan being in game.

Shame you have the same luxury as I have.
Let's explore towards eachother with warriors and the lands to our west and east with our kings and settle outwards (filling the land between our nations last). I see your king has moved westwards; I think this is good. We need to know if there is sea in the West or that some vile bunch of sub-humans is living there.

Mistfit
15-09-2005, 12:46
W-W-SW and SW-SW-SW of my King unit is Water. I presume ocean. With the ability to create warriors in 2-3 turns I don't think we should get to far with our kings. Scouting to our west and north I see as no problem. But I'd hate to find a wandering warrior with the King (although we could outrun them.

Rik Meleet
15-09-2005, 13:44
We are 11 tiles apart. According to BedHead enemies are about 13 tiles apart. I'm planning on scouting with the king some tiles away. Then return in an arc to scout the lands between you and me. So Eastwards, then swing southwards and return via your eastern borders back northwards.
If you go west, then north, then east and then south (on my western-border) we have good info on the lands to our west, between us and our east.

I'm not sure yet what to do if my king meets an enemy king...

Here are my stats. By changing tiles to check I noticed that everyone has 2 shields. My Productivity = 10. I am still number 1 in that if I make my productivity 9. I'm 5th if I make it 8. So all other 4 teams that have settled are on 8 Productivity, assuming 4 are food then they have only have 4 commerce. That must mean no bonus resources for them yet. I'm a bit puzzled why my city center has 4 commerce; +1 for river, +1 for coastal, 1 in city center. Am I overlooking something here ? ??

I believe (99% sure, will check), that a city center gives 2 commerce. 1 for river, 1 for seafaring-coastal = 4.

My Queen went 2 tiles Eastward again. There's something that looks like a coast. This is confirm Mistfit's and my perception on how the map would be. A 15 tile wide strip of land which goes all around the globe. It's time for my Queen to move south from now on. Mist and I decided to scout with the kings about 6 tiles outwards, then turn towards the other and then complete the circle. This seems to be the safest way to explore with the King-unit while getting as much info for both as possible.

Interesting fact; I just build my 2nd warrior and I am strong compared to everyone else; except Tubby's Persia. Compared to him I am average. His growth to size 2 was also 1 turn too early. This must have given him an extra shield which finished his warrior perfectly.
I'm now going for a settler.

So you think a worker before the next settler is the way to go?

Rik Meleet
04-10-2005, 23:52
I have very low shield output. I need to mine to get the settler quickly. If I'd continued with the settler I'd still 4 or 5 turns away with a big city. Besides that; the settler would have reached it's destination over non-roaded lands with the lux onconnected. I think this way I can do it only slightly slower, while gaining a much needed worker.
Minor reason: It keeps my city on size 2, disguising the fact that I have a cow and irrigated floodplains.
It is just a hunch.

We are trailing in MFG goods, but since we both build a worker that should be improving soon.
Productivity is ok, but everyone is around the 12-13.
If we bring Mist's MFG's to max (4 megatons) he is still only 3rd. That means that 2 civs are on 5 shields per turn. In accelerated production that is awesome as it is a warrior or worker every turn. A settler in 3.

well your dot map certainly look colorful :D I cannot really
disagree with anything you have there.

I was looking at my neighborhood and has these thoughts.

1.) plant my first settler near the spices to the SW of Mistfitzia
I will put it on which ever of your 3 cirles are not a BG. It seems
like 2 of them are.

2.) I put my ideas of worker turns. I think they are solid.

3.) Southern warrior heads SW and then west to bust the fog S of Mistfitzia

4.) The King will keep heading towards Mistfitzia S

5.) the East Warrior will continue along high ground busting the fog towards the enemy

6.) The northern warrior will ??? erm... head back to the cap?
So you have a better idea here? I'd like to get the lux down to speed
my research but let me know what you think.

7.) do you agree or disagree with the Granary build in Mistfitzia?
Settler 1st?

I'll be gone from Saturday October 15th till Saturday October 29th.
You will not get access to my gmail account; instead I'll ask Grahamiam to send the saves to you, ok ?

1) I couldn't distingiush BG's from non-BG's.
2) Please do
3) excellent
4) excellent, protection + MP
5) excellent
6) West, please. I think the land to the west is interesting as it appears there is quiet some land to the north, so perhaps none to the South-West. We need to know if we are safe from that side or not.
7) I am very much in doubt myself. I chose for Settler, but I could just change to Granary next turn, before the settler finishes. I honestly don't know. Granary seems a bit superfluous when you only need 10 food to grow anyway.

Mistfit
12-10-2005, 00:56
I put what my workers were going to do in the map

Northern one finish road and work the cow. then turn and go SW SW to work the second BG

Southern one will mine BG he's on and then road towards the new town site prolly irrigating the FP on the way. Then to the Spice. Prolly chopping for a Rax...

Graham plays after you but before me

Edit:

New Map. Hut Spotted. Is there a chance I could pop Myst from the Hut?
If there is you might wanna gift it 2 me in a turn.

I changed to a settler as it works out to 3 for growth and 3 for the settler at size 4.

I will prolly make a warrior next as it will take at least 10 turns to get a warrior back to my cap. That is another reason to wait on the Granary

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Mistfit/200510121418_guess.JPG

OK here's what we know...

1.) You and I are 11 tiles away from each other
2.) On the Minimap from F4 (I think) we are 43 Pixles apart
3.) It seems as if the map was planned well as far as spacing goes

So...

Some figuring.

If you and I are 43 pixles apart (11 tiles) the whole map seems to be
299 pixles wide (76 tiles)

Divide that by 3 teams (if spaced evenly) is 97.73 pixles (25.3 tiles) apart from each team...

I've plotted them on the mini map. My guess is that this is very close.
The only thing we don't know is where we are north and south on the map.

That being said my plan with my Eastern Warrior is to head SE until I
hit the ocean. Go East until I'm 25 tiles away from home and then head straight north in hopes of catching someone unawares.

Sound Logical?

I'll be back around the 29th or 30th of October. If a major thing happens on 27 or 28 October, it might be ok to wait. If it happens before then; you can handle it. It's no use halting the game over this.

Not a lot of excitement:

In short It does not look as if I have any horses close... I'll post a map after my next turn. I am circling to the SE with my warrior by graham. He's placed a second town. He's average to me so he's prolly got 4 warriors as well. I will be heading towards him in a turn or 2.

I still have hopes that there are horses 4 or 5 tiles NE of Mistfitzia

Edit:
Well I've got no Horses closer than the ones 1/2 way to Graham... Hopefully those are his only ones as well. I will start to build a chain of cities that direction I guess.

I will post an updated dot map idea for me for you to look over after my next turn.

Also Next turn I will be peeking at Graham's 2nd city :D

I have 4 turns left to get HBR... What next?

I'm 3 from HBR. Building 2 Rax right now although I may switch my second city to a worker

I think I will place my 3rd city where he sits so he can share the cow.

Nice !!

I forgot; This is the situation with Whomp. I figured out that I have no chance against the archer at all, even if I am fortified on a mountain. So I just go bug him and his workers and settler, while evading his archer. His archer and settler are both on the indicated tile.

If his archer moves S, I'll move north. If his archer moves E, I'll move W. If his archer goes SE; I'll move south, to continue exploring the fog and threaten to enter his lands through the mountains.

In-game: the Whomp-area. I fear my warrior is toast due to an archer-attack. Perhaps Whomp is afraid to strike me immediately. I hope so.

Bad news. Especially in such a close game as this game will be. 1 turn might just be what we cannot afford.

I did an analysis on the tech cost. See attached excel file.
I am the only one with Myst. Everybody has The Wheel. Iron is known to 2 civs. On turn 2 o 3; someone popped a hut with CB. Only 2 civs have HBR, so we can expect Mounted Warriors. Noone is doing a philosophy race; writing was not learned till turn 21.

If you can check you "c" and "d" saves; we might even know what team learned what. Elementary, Dr Watson !!

Turn 31 update.

I'm expanding at the moment, while not neglecting units, nor workers. Workers are very important in this setup as cities grow quickly and are using many tiles which all have to be improved. I'm gearing my capital up to a 2 turn settler factory, with 5 food and 6 (+1 on growth) and 7 (+1 on growth) shields.

Update time (2510 BC)

State of the Despotism....

Mistfitzia consists of 3 towns
2 settlers on the way
3 workers
7 warriors
3 Archers
1 Gilgamesh :D (king unit)

I am strong against Rik, Barbu, Whomp.
I am Average against Tubs
I am weak against Grahamiam

I just finished Iron Working (sent it to Rik)
Suprisingly I have Iron under one of my towns... Now I just need horses.
and started Masonry (4 turns at 40% - per Rik we are the only not to know it)

My kingdom makes 21 gold gross. I am running 30% lux (till first lux gets hooked 3 turns) so net gain is zero GPT

My Core:
The spice (or what ever that lux is will be roaded next)

The worker S of Bafoonton is taking a little longer route to hook up the town for 2 reasons:
1.) it makes travel between the cities easier as there is no river x-ing
2.) when he was produced there were barbs standing at Bafoontons doorstep
http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Mistfit/2005121445750_Core.jpg

What should I do with my King? Plunk him down for MP? explore more?

East:
I am in desparate need of horses! Without them Rik says we will lose this game for sure.

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Mistfit/200512145445_Out_East.jpg
Plan: To the east of me (on grahamiam's doorstep) is the closest horses to me. I currently have a settler 2 turns away from the
site. I will hold him up for reinforcements as he is only guarded by one archer. 2 turns behind I will have another archer and warrior
available to escort. A 4th escort is one turn behind them.

Go settle that and do some praying...

Note: I did just now see Rik's borders to the NE of Bafoonton. They are 5 tiles north of me)

Out west:
I saw a single Barbu warrior to the West of me but has since disapeared.

Bad to worse...

My horses have been claimed...

http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/uploaded/Mistfit/200512221438_Bad_News1.jpg

I can see 2 options:

1.) Put a city 1/2 way between Tonawanda and Bafoonton (NE of lake) -and build an invasionary force to take Tonawanda by force.

2.) Start building north to connect with you to grab your second horse

Neither of which are great options but...

On the Western Front Barbu's warrior showed back up..

A few, read 2-3 swords could really mess up Tonawanda.
There are Mts and hills around it, so I would really camp on the hills and Mts' then sally forth every now and again.

Mistfitzia Settler and growth in 2

Bafoonton Settler and growth in 3

The mini stack 4xNW of Bubbaton has a settler in it. I plan on placing it 1xN of his current location to incorperate the river/wheat/dye

The next after that will be filling the gap between us. Any ideas on where the best lcations are?

I was thinking 3xS + 1xSW of FoP to get the incense (not much else is great land there.

Do you want Masonry?

Rik Meleet
30-12-2005, 17:08
3xS + 1xSW of FoP -> I'll have trouble defending there. And it won't get the Incense.
I was thinking of my city 6x SE of FoP (= 3 x S of my other city "Silver Lining"). That location is 3xN + 1xNW of Bafoonton.
Yours can go 2xN + 1xE of Bafoonton or 2xN + 1xNE of Bafoonton.

Masonry: I think so; but I'll have to check.

Mistfit
30-12-2005, 17:25
I for some reason thought the plan was to connect our cities on the West side of the Mountains. This plan of yours works better as you only have 2 tiles to road and I have 3 to connect.

I was off by one tile as to where the incense city would be.

I think this is a good plan.

Yellow Dot = cWarrior Grahamiam
White Dot = cWarrior + cHorse Barb

nPink Dot = vWarrior + Settler Me
sPink Dot = vSword + 3 Workers Me

I stepped north with my settler first (I know it was a big mistake...)
There across the river was Grahamiam on the east and to the west a healed barb + a new horse.

There was no way around it after I made the mistake of moving with my settler first.

Rik Meleet

You'll be fine. Grah's consript warrior attacking across a river on your vet warrior is 89% chance of success for your warrior.
If the barb horse attacks your sword + workers you have nearly 78% of winning. And then there's the chance it'll retreat.

vArcher kills rArcher -2hp

This actually puts Grahamiam at weak to me... which is nice as it may give me a chance to get a bit ahead of him...

I started on the next tech above Mono... I can't think of it's name off hand but it will prolly take me 6 or 7 turns.

Just from glancing down this thread ive noticed you 2 are playing a defensive game, what are you planning on doing in terms of attack? mist could you not build up your army in your GA for an attack, my apologies if you've already thought of this.

We are playing a defensive game for the time being. Rik is the Spanish and if we can get him to his UU (conquistadores) we will be able to mop up on the rest (or so the theory goes)

Are you planning on slowly filling space?

IS someone going for the ToA? That could be huge here.

I agree Rik's conquistadors could be pure evil, espicially for assainating workers.

I am still building settlers once in a while. I think at the moment I have 2 or 3 on their way. But since I am weak (or average at best) to all other players I must be wary of a large invasion. That means I have little options of sneaking in settlers and I certainly see no room for a TOA here.

Conquis are just awesome with their 6-moves-regardless-of-terrain. That means 5 moves+1 attack or move-attack-retreat 2 tiles. And just imagine a Conqui-army: 9 tiles to be pillaged every turn.

Can we get a large map? A Rik-Mist combo map if necessary.

Is Mist protecting your weak ass Rik? [:p]

What about making a Maginot line there in the mountains - or is that too costly?

Rik Meleet

Is Mist protecting my weak ass? I hope so .... :) I know the enemies realise that if I get my UU I have a lot of flexibility and simply having that UU forces them to keep some defenses up 6 tiles deep into their lands. And that I can do ghost-attacks; without being visible I can attack a stack or a unit and leave without a trace. (virtually).

The strategy from the start was that he keeps me alive till Conquistadores and we'll go berserk with them. Since he is in Golden Age, he is researching the path to Astronomy. We even decided that getting 3 start techs instead of 4 was worth the awesome flexibility of the Conquistadore. And: it's a civ not often played in PBEM's, so it's a refreshing choice. :D

Tubby has learned from his fiasco and is amassing a considerable force. Grah is average compared to me, Msit is strong and so is Tubby. Msit, can you keep some forces (let's say the 4 MW's you have in the border zone) close to Logrono passage?

Tubby's attack has started. I've moved all my mountain units into Logrono Passage, as well as the horses around the city. Tubby has a sizeable force, but I think I could defeat him. Unfortunately he also has knights up north.
Mist, please move your units along the purple lines, so you can take out some Tubby-units. If he goes to A or B (as expected) then I need some luck in battle, although the odds are on my side. Veteran pikes in a city on a hill behind walls.

I've had a terrible result against Tubby's SoD. I lost 8 horses + 1 archer and Tubby lost 1 knight and 1 Immortal

Cats bombard SoD. 2 misses, 1 hit.
4/4 Horse - 4/4 Pike - Defensive bombardment misses. Horse dies, Pike: 3/4
5/5 Sword - 4/4 Knight - Defensive bombardment hits. Knight flees, Sword 2/5.
4/4 Horse - 3/4 Pike - horse dies, Pike 1/4.
4/4 Horse - 3/4 Pike - horse dies, Pike 2/4 - promotes to 3/5.
4/4 Horse - 3/5 Pike - Horse flees 1/4, pike 3/5
4/4 Horse - 3/5 Pike - horse dies, Pike 1/5
4/4 Horse - 4/4 Immo - horse dies, Immo 1/4
4/4 Horse - 4/4 Immo - horse dies, Immo 3/4
4/4 Horse - 4/4 Immo - Immo dies, Horse 3/4
4/4 Horse - 1/4 knight - Knight dies, Horse 4/4
3/3 Horse - 4/4 Immo - horse dies, Immo 3/4
3/3 Archer - 4/4 Immo - Archer dies, Immo 2/4

So Mist, if you try to take out some Immo's by attacking along the route I showed you, I might keep the city. If I lose the city, then I (or you) have no horses.

I killed one anyway.

Lookie what I found...

Rik Meleet

Thanks,

Nice move on the settler. Unfortunately you are now detected so a MW landing next to a city is impossible now. Well, at least Grah will have to divert some forces. YOu might want to consider disbanding the settler if Grah gets close with a MW.

I stopped the temple for several reasons. Among the most important: Temples suck, 3 out of 3 happy people, barracks were needed more, better cultural expansions are done with libraries -or- cities themselves.
If I ruined a plan for you, sorry. Temple just didn't seem like a winning move.

I am certainly not complaining about you switching builds as you are much more experianced playing PBEM's than I am. I was just asking for an explanation... so thanks for that.

As far as Libs go I cannot imagine us having any. My big fear for that city is flip risk which I suppose will be minimal due to the amount of troops that will likely always be in residence there.

btw... why the hell can't I get a promotion? I've had a lot of battles and no promo's to elite. It sure would be nice to be able to make an army or 2.

The one MW is toast he ended where he is at after scouting and will be whacked but You will have a tough decision as to whether or not to dump the town.

depending on where he puts his troops I can have as many as 6 MW's attack next turn or as little as zero

It's hard to judge that from our side. I don't know if Whomp/Barbu are making any important gains on Tubby/Grah or vice versa. The way the game feels I don't get the impression that we are winning. :) I hope that I am proven wrong later on.
