I was thinking of doing a simple 1v1 game, but I am open to any suggestions.

What kind of level (Monarch? Emperor? Deity ?) are you looking for ?

Rik Meleet
28-08-2005, 15:54
There are several styles of 1v1. Just 1v1 with no AI. 1v1 with AI. 1v1 with 2 AI, both in alliance with 1 human. etc...
Please give some more detail.

I would like to join up. It seems that i am having trouble trying to get a PBEM up and running too.

Here is a suggestion. There a four players who have posted on this thread. Perhaps we can have a 4 way 2x2x2x2? We could play this on Emporer level.

Emperor would be fine with me.

a 1v1 with AI, allied or not does not matter to me.

Thats fine with me.

vbraun

Classical, do you have any prefrances?

DavidC
29-08-2005, 13:24
I am also up for a 4 way 2v2v2v2 if possible

vbraun
29-08-2005, 15:40
What about a 3 way 2v2v2? I'm not really sure that Rik wants to play.

So if I'm getting this right we would each have an AI ally, right?

classical_hero

Let's see if anyone else would want to join. This will be my first 2x2.

I would play if Rik doesn't. My Russian PBEM has stalled.

Rik Meleet

I'd rather make maps :D
You can play.

I see your motivation Rik. You like playing "master of the universe". This way you get to see what the whole thing play out. [lol]
Emperor works for me.
I'd prefer no SGL's or barbs.
SoZ without ivory or without AC.
I'd prefer Pangea but continents (with coastal access for contacts) would be ok.
I've never played a scenario all the way through but that might be interesting.

DavidC
29-08-2005, 22:45
I think a 2v2v2v2 means NO AI but each player controls 2 civs right ?
Level : Emperor
No SGLs, sedentary barbs
No SoZ or available to everyone
Continents
Now we need to agree on how to pick civs :(

Whomp
29-08-2005, 23:20
I think 2x2x2x2 means one "pet" AI civ per team.
No SoZ works for me and sedentary is fine as well.

As far as civs I think the way we did it for the CFC intersite game was fair.
Take your top 4 picks where 1,2 and 4 could be ag civs and pm those four to Rik.
Then Rik can randomly choose who goes #1,2,3,4.

vbraun
29-08-2005, 23:49
Awesome. :)
Emporer, No SGLs, SoZ without Ivory, No Barbs (sentendary is fine though), Continents with coastal access for all.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

2x2x2x2 has two options:
-Each player controls two civs.
-Each player controls one civ an has a "pet" AI.

I'd suggest option 1, BTW. AI stupidity is an excellent way to ruin a eprfectly fine game... :)

Whomp

Makes sense to me. How about limiting it to one ag civ per person?

vbraun

Sounds good to me.

I've always wanted to play Hannibal in "Rise of Rome" but an SG might work better for that.

BTW vbraun I see you live in AZ. I went to school at U of A. Please don't tell me you go (or want to go to) ASU or I'll have to kill you. [cool]

Maybe another time, but not now.

I'm undecided as of right now.
yeah thats the ticket

I thought that it would mean that we have two civs each. Here are the civs that I want to play as. I'll take China and Iroquios as my two preferred civ with these three as my backups Persia, Ottomans and Dutch.

Whomp
30-08-2005, 20:50
I'd like to play some I haven't played in awhile.
My tops would be Iroquois, as well, with Roman. My backups would be Vikes, English and Aztecs.

DavidC
30-08-2005, 21:44
Shouldnt we send the team preferences anonymously to Rik ???

Whomp
30-08-2005, 23:30
I thought so too but I saw Classical already post his.
Honestly I'd be more than happy to anonymously send my picks.
vbraun, thoughts?

vbraun
31-08-2005, 01:11
Anonymously would be better, but it would not make a big diffrance.

Rik Meleet
31-08-2005, 01:21
Why not make it easier and I give you the civs you want. I can easily edit -for instance- Korea to have other traits and an other UU, making it Iroquois.
If vbraun agrees; PM me for both civs you'll be playing what traits + UU you'd like to have. That way noone will feel bad for not getting a "good" civ.

ok ?

vbraun
31-08-2005, 01:24
sounds fine with me, as long as only one of the civs can have the agriculture traits. Would we be able to mix and match UUs and traits?

Rik Meleet
31-08-2005, 01:27
Why not ? If you want Religious + Militaristic + Mounted Warriors, you can get it. If you want I can give you 3 or more traits or more than 1 UU. Fine by me.
It's not difficult for me. Of course all other players will have to agree.

vbraun
31-08-2005, 01:29
I like mixing and mathcing traits with UUs, but having the option of 3 UUs or an extra trait I don't like very much.

Whomp
31-08-2005, 01:53
I'd say once you've used a trait then you can't use that trait for your other civ.
Can we all have the same UU? Or would we pick UU's in random order?

vbraun
31-08-2005, 01:55
I think we would be able to have the same UU

Whomp
31-08-2005, 02:17
Ok works for me. As far as traits would each person take four traits for their two civs?

subliminal message to vbraun...bear down arizona...kick the shit out of asu....

vbraun
31-08-2005, 06:43
That sounds good to me.

DavidC
31-08-2005, 10:49
Lets keep it as simple and unmodded as possible : we can get the 2 civs we want regardless of what other civs were chosen by your opponents, OK ?
That means you can have any civs you want but no modding, so no creating of new civs with 2 traits and a different UU. Am I clear ?
If you pick China you are militaristic and indus with Riders, if someone else has already chosen China than Rik will make a new civs, let's say Taiwan ;) with same traits and UUs.

And each player is allowed only ONE agri civ.

Is that OK with everyone ?

Whomp
31-08-2005, 16:01
That sounds good too DavidC. One ag civ and duplicates change country name but get the same traits and UU. I presume this means we don't have to be secretive with our choices so should we just post here?
When does the Rik the mapmaker have time to put this together?

Rik Meleet
31-08-2005, 16:32
I'll make time.

classical_hero
31-08-2005, 17:18
I think we should try and stick to the original traits and uu's for each civ without modding them.

Whomp
31-08-2005, 17:27
OK if we do it that way I think we should PM Rik our choices and have him randomly chose 1,2,3,4 for who gets what.
I still say only one ag civ per team.

classical_hero
31-08-2005, 17:59
I Garee that suggestion.

DavidC
31-08-2005, 18:28
If we can duplicate civs in game then there is no need to send 4 choices ????
Everyone gets what they asked for. Its only a matter of duplciate names
but I am sure Rik will find a good solution to remedy.

vbraun
31-08-2005, 23:51
I agree with DaivdC. Also to help Rik out we should send the names of our civs (so he doesn't have to come up with them himself)

Whomp
01-09-2005, 00:08
OK so each of us pick 2 civs (max one ag) regardless of who has what. Fine. Done.
Should we just throw out our two names?

vbraun
01-09-2005, 00:38
Thats how it's going to work.

Sure.

vbraun
01-09-2005, 01:19
Ok everybody pm Rik Your choice of 2 civs, password you want to use, (optional) names of your Civs, and the e-mail your going to use so he can send it to the first person when he decides the order.

Whomp
01-09-2005, 02:58

Question:

I am currently very busy with the map. You requested "coastal access". Does that mean you want both, or 1 capital on the coast ?

I advise against it for 2 reasons:
1 - Your capitals won't be the geographical center of your empires.
2 - The map is such that I think building a boat from your 2nd or 3rd city is soon enough. The map is more fun without coastal capitals, I think.

If you do want coastal capitals; fine with me. I can make them coastal.

Let me know.

Whomp
01-09-2005, 23:40
My .02
I simply wanted the capability to have some type of crossing between each continent. I could careless where the access is on the map.

vbraun

Whomp took the words out of my mouth.

DavidC

No coastal access for me needed !

Rik Meleet
02-09-2005, 14:27
That's clear. I'll continue working on the map tonight.

As usual for my maps, the map will be hand-drawn. Balancing is precise and time-consuming on it. Playtesting will be done after that. Hope to complete it this weekend, but no promisses.

classical_hero
03-09-2005, 14:29
We can wait.

vbraun
03-09-2005, 23:05
Rik, do you have any idea of what the order will be?

Rik Meleet
03-09-2005, 23:55
Yes I do. The map is basically ready, I just need to playtest it.

Rik Meleet
04-09-2005, 13:04
Everything is ready. Save will be send to the first player (Vbraun) soon.
Enjoy.

And: make nice spoilers; that's the mapmakers's reward for investing time and energy. And this map sure took a lot of it.
