I've seen a lot of mercenaries appear the last few days.
Today I was able to buy mercenaries two times, and the day is far from over.
On saterday I noticed that there were mecenaries for sale, but they were almost sold out. The next turn, bang.. all mercenaries available again.

Something to keep a close eye on!

Btw.. what to do with untrained mecenaries? I bought one, but I could not train him.
He was the first soldier to die in the next attack.
Thats all they are good at... dying.

Do you gain Gold per turn from any merc?

No, you do not get any gold per turn from mercs, but they protect it.
If you are attacked, the defense mercs die before your defense soldiers or untrained soldiers die.
Same with attacking.
You can also train more soldiers to spy/sentries as attacking and defending will be done by mercs.

Mercenaries seem useful when you're short on men.

Mercenaries
Personnel
Trained Attack Soldiers 726
Trained Attack Mercenaries 167
Trained Defense Soldiers 619
Trained Defense Mercenaries 281
Untrained Soldiers 0
Untrained Mercenaries 0
Spies 34,372
Sentries 25,951
Total Fighting Force 1,793

No more than 25% of your army can consist of mercenaries.

bleh! I needed 7 more attack mercs :(

Hey!! I had stopped looking for these things as there were never any around. But I just bought 73 defensive Mercs!

Questions:

The 25% of the Army... Is that combined DA and SA or separate?

ie. If I have 1000 total army I can have 250 DM's

Or

If I have 500 Attack and 500 Defensive soldier can I cony have 125 AM's and 125 DM's?

What do they add (I forgot to look at my stats before I bought them) As a guess I'd say about 36K but I was just wondering...

the 25% is combined, so if your TFF is 1000 you can have 250 mercs total

(you can get round this by then training down all your men so your TFF could be just 250 all merc...)

they dont add anything - but they die before yor men do, so they save you a great deal because you dont lose your precious gold producing real men.

So Like this morning I could have trained all 980 untrained soldiers up to attack soldiers and bought an additional 250 ish mercs?

no ;)

trained/untrained/attacker/defender all counts as TFF

only way to get more than 250 mercs is to have more than 1000 TFF when you are buying the mercs, and training men from untrained to attacker doesn't affect your TFF.
better to just let your recruits build up until you have the desired TFF then buy your mercs, then train down your untrained to spy/sentry as normal (lowering your TFF and making your mercs more than 25% of your TFF overall).
