Just thought it might be a good idea to start an open thread here for this game to monitor the saves until the turn tracker is up and running and of course for other general discussion as well. [whatsthis

Sent to Matrix. There was something wrong with Killer's address, though, as I got an e-mail with saying that delivery failed. And I think we should agree on a naming convention for the saves. I saved it as superfast001a since I thought that looked better than something involving the number of players.

It's on to Eldakemal a while ago.

Rik made a mistake. The country was meant to be called "Matrix" and the leader "Shagrath". Now the leader is called "Matrix" and the country just "Egypt". [sad]

I didn't even realize we had costum Civ names and that the team names would be the player names. But I'm not complaining. [cool]

Anyways, how is the turn tracker going, Matrix, and what about a sim game (since it's after July 4th)?

This game is on the Turn Tracker! [cool]

http://www.straland.com/turntracker/16pbem.php

I hope it works. It hasn't been tested yet! (Although the old pages do work with the renewed code.)
I didn't have everyone's e-mail addresses yet, and I especially don't know whether the savegame should be sent to the e-mail addresses of the teams themselves (as opposed to member e-mail addresses) too, instead of, or not at all (i.e. they're only for diplomacy issues).

Just sent turn 4 (3800BC), but I've just realized that the turn tracker is a little messed up : 4000BC should be turn 0, just like in F8. So the turn tracker shows this :
12-07-2005 17:53:16 - Gremlins - 3800 BC (005)
but it's in fact : 3800BC (004)

Matrix, could you correct this please ? :)

Those were sent by bathsheba, I sent manually.

Matrix

I did some tests, but found no problems. You all should have a text file in your mailbox (no need to confirm). I also used a rather large image file to send to the Gremlins, cos that needs to be sent to five e-mail addresses, but that worked ok as well.

It might be that the turn tracker just didn't work for a few hours and then went fully operational again. [dunno] Or I didn't test correctly.

Imo we can do these 2 sections pretty well if the teams post a pic they like for their team, even better if the pic is finished, for F4 you will have to make something like this if you can. :) There is a pretty good guide on CFC: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=87378

Of course we can make different pictures for happy - neutral - angry, but frankly that has no importance. An indication for the Age is. We're still discussing how to make it 100% clear what age a civ is in.

Don't worry, we'll fix that. It's just not clear how, but we'll work it out. Just send a picture of the leaderhead you like to me or Beam. Making a leaderhead costs me only 10 to 15 minutes - max.

Yeah, I was wondering that, too.

Beam

Choose from 2 options dudes:
1. No save at all, i.e. stalled game because my GSM (that is a mobile phone connecting to the web at a wacky speed) can't connect to the Turntracker.
2. Game posted here and we can maintain progress.

Markstar, read other posts about these games before posting comments like this. Thank you.

Markstar
07-08-2005, 03:08
Woohoo, first of all there is no reason to get all defensive about it.
Secondly I'm wondering what posts you expect me to read in order to know that you can't connect to the turn tracker. [confused]

Anyways, sure it's no big deal to post the game here and it is surely better than stalling the game. Come to think of it it is very admirable that you upload the saves via your mobile phone! I just assumed that loading the turn tracker and uploading the game there automatically is easier than any other solution (especially since from my experience CDZ can be rather slow from time to time). Sorry if I have offended you though.

That means the admin either keeps track of the turns, sees that a group is stalling or he is contacted by another group who is looks at the turn tracker and finds that the game is not moving. That way the admin-job is not too much work since keeping track of a game is quite some work.and

So basically a team should play within 24 hours but it is up to the teams to decide when skipping the turns will become neccessary. This means that holding a turn for 2 days should result in Rik's intervention but doing so repeatedly will.

And imho it's time.

I just talked to Killer and he suggested that it might be a good idea that Classical Hero joins the MILFhunters instead of them since they seem to have a greater need for another player.

@Markstar: seems clear to me :)

And, I'll second Killers' suggestion.

ok, as I understand the rules, all 8 teams must approve the skip. I'll post in Team Engineer on this matter.

edit: or is it the majority? (ie, total of 5). Anyways, we vote skip as this game was an attempt to setup a fast moving, large multiplayer game and this was one of the mechanisms to do it. hopefully, it has little impact.

game played and sent.

Beam is away I assumed he was back. Work and Baby keeping me too busy atm. sorry for the delay, if general vote is to kick us out of the game then let it be so but August is just a crappy month to try and be superfast. again sorry, I will try to keep more track of where the turn is.

I think this rule applies only to single turns, right? That way the game keeps moving. I don't think anyone is considering dumping your entire team :)

I am back but there is a huge pile of work after me holidays. Should be a bit more relaxed after Sept 1 hopefully.

Exactly, however, Classical Hero (and the teams) should decide which team he will join. [smokin]

It was from 16pbem - Brh. of Nod - 3200 BC (016). Can the next team (A-team, IIRC) please play soonish?
Thx.

Just to make sure - despite the turn tracker indicating otherwise on first look, the save should be with the Gremlins right now. :)

No, it's not.

I played turn 16 last night (around midnight), and either you or whomp played at 10:30 this morning. Then Krys played (because the didn't know I had already done so) turn 16. I sent you a PM to ignore the latest save BTW. :)

The save is with Team Metal...

You'd better contact him personally.

Something else: Rik, when can we expect funny leader images and the like?

Rik Meleet
08-09-2005, 12:37
Matrix: dunno. Beam and I put some time in it but then it slacked off. When we get a creative urge again.

IIRC Beam advised to wait till some of the civs are in the Middle Ages as to overcome the problems associated with recognising the leaderhead-change when civs reach a new age.

I just PM'ed Kemal and he seemed very surprised that they still have the turn. Looks like it might be a good idea to message the teams after 24 hours or so to see what's going on.

BTW, even though I realize that some people can't play one weekends, it is kinda unacceptable that we loose 2 out of 7 days. I recommend those teams who don't have a "weekend player" get one.

Looks like we have to start skipping turns now... :(

I noticed we have had the save in our possession for quite some time now, apologies for not responding sooner.

Speaking on behalf of the whole Bhd of Nod team, we'd like to formally withdraw from this game, other people can either take over our civ, or Rik could skip us entirely or retire us from the game.
We unfortunately can no longer promise and guarantee the swiftness of play required to keep this one going smoothly.

Keeping such a game running while you're not prepared to invest in it as much as should is not the way to continue, and to respect the wishes of those that do wish to continue this game, removing us from the roster might be the best method of speeding up the game. While sending and playing saves now is still a small matter, once diplo gets going, having an inactive team present will only do the game harm, and will be an unwanted and unfair element.

Keeping this in mind, our team quitting now is probably in the best interest of all involved, especially since it is known that not all are infected with the civ4-virus, and might want to keep playing this one.

The Bhd of Nod team.

Matrix

You're probably as active as Killer and I are. I don't know what's best: back out or play passively. I guess we'd better back out as well.

But this is just a major bummer for the rest of you, especially Markstar. It was such a good idea... http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif

Kemal
05-12-2005, 20:48
I think the idea is still very strong, but the material we are working with is obsolete, imho. And I'm very sorry about this, but I can't change my feelings on that. Which is why we'd like to opt out, to prevent massive harrassment and an uneven playing field because of an inactive, demotivated team.

Playing a turn every once a week (that was about the average rate) is hardly that time consuming.. it's just that I believe it is no fun for all parties involved if it goes that way.

Whomp
05-12-2005, 20:49
I'd think the same concept with Civ4 would make for a mighty fun game. Is it feasible to have an epic 16 team game in Civ4?

romeothemonk

We need more people with civ 4 first.

There are new CDZ-ers who could replace drop-outs. I come to think of Tubby and Mistfit. They aren't part of teams yet. The game doesn't have to crashland nor continue with less than 8 teams.

Lt. Killer M
07-12-2005, 14:26
sorry, I have had and I will have a very busy time - especially at work! And I can't find time to play at home (sucks!). but i will keep going in all PBEMs, even if I am slacking now.

Markstar
07-12-2005, 19:56
Too sad, really. And I do believe this could have worked. :(

But I must admit, my interest has been dropping lately as well, cIV was a major disappointment for me, plus I have exams constantly so I'm really busy with RL stuff. Plus, I liked the Stuttgart start much more. [:p]

But in the spirit of the game teams with members who want to drop out should make a (combined) post and maybe try to find some replacements.

To complete my clarification about those dying Civ3 games, I'm retiring from this one as well. It's not as if the game was still alive anyway, right ? Thanks to Markstar, a great idea, but to difficult to continue, and maybe too late in the Civ3 era... I feel free to read spoilers now, right ?
