This game was started without me! :(
However, Digger did not had the time to continue, so I took control over the Japanese empire.

I took over in turn 61. Japanese looked like this..

6 cities, 1 riot, 12 gold (-1 gpt), the capital on a wonder, researching literature in 10.

Uh oh..
Japan knows how to write but lacks warrior code. Only the other baseline techs are known.

A few more cities and a lot more workers are needed.
There is also some work to be done on the diplo front.
A trade agreement was made with Arghis of France: Literature for Iron Working.
Als a deal with Matrix the Celt was made: Literature for Philosophy and Warrior code.
Akots of Sumeria had no interest :( but we did sign a worthless 20 turns non aggression pact.

Well.. lets get this started!

40 turns have been played and a lot happened.

The entire island has been settled and also an island city has been founded. It is founded on top of Ivory and a harbor has been whipped to connect it.
Soon another island will be colonized to grab another lux.
I am also trading my Incense to Arghis for Dyes, so I have 4 lux online now :)

Literature has been researched and traded. Sumeria still had no interest despite him being scientific. However, one turn after sending it to Arghis Akots got it. hmm.. sounds like a partnership.

After Literature research was set on Mapmaking, followed by Horseback riding.
When HBR was almost finished, Akots and Arghis revolted to Republic. Yikes! I do not have Code of Laws yet!

Matrix was contacted and we talked about a research partnership.
He agreed :)
I traded him HBR for Mysticism and he gave me Code of Laws for free.
I started researching on Republic while he would research Poly and Math.
We would swap those techs.
This is great news of course.

Add two curragh to that list.
The regular warriors will be disbanded when I revolt to Republic in 6 turns.

Kyoto will not build the Great Lib as Akots is building it longer in a bigger city under republic.
I will probably switch to Colossus.

I have no plans for attacking anyone soon.
I wait for Samurai to conquer the world unless I get attacked of course.

Good and bad news!

The good news is that Japan revolted and is now a republic :D
Other good news is that I got back into the tech race.

The demographics are not so bad either.

Matrix (Celts) is the number 1 in territory, but Akots (Sumeria) is probably the number 1 in all the other stats.
It is strange that I am second in population as both Akots and Matrix are agricultural.... no complains here :)

Akots has build the Colossus and the Mausoleum.
That is the bad new.
Also bad news is that I am now weak compared to Akots and Arghis.
So.. I am thinking of building the last wonder in the list below..

A welcome boost to my income and my production.
The increase in production is very much needed as the evil Sumerians, lead by the coward Akots, landed troops on Japanese soil WITHOUT declaring war!

Now I have to declare war while Akots is attacking my land. Akots can profit from war happiness in the mean time while I will suffer from war weariness in the long run.
I wonder why Akots has choses to profit from a broken feature (exploit?) in the game.

A lot has happend since the invasion of Sumeria.

I killed the 2 invaders at Kagoshima, but the 2 units on the mountaintop were very lucky to beat the 2 defenders I could move into the city - Akots used his enkidu to attack, and won.. the lucky @%$#$%

Shimonoseki was razed unfortunately, but it was soon replaced.

Akots also captured two workers by landing on top of them, but all invading forces were eliminated by my horses and ancient cav.
One AC was lost during that time :(

The Japanese army, boosted by the golden age, was growing quickly. However Sumeria, also boosted by the golden age, could profit from a tech advantage.
Several turns ago a group of Knights were landed on my silk island!

Knights! And I do not have Monotheism yet..
My 2 spears fortified on hills behind walls can handle a punch, but 5 knights is just too much.
I killed one knight but Sapporo was lost.

In the mean time I researched Feudalism and traded it to Matrix for Engineering. Engineering is usefull to cross rivers, but I'd rather traded for Monotheism.
Horse versus Knight is not so good, but MDI versus knight is a lot better, so I focused on building those.
I have enough horses for now.

Akots really wants to take me out before I get Samurai.
Understandable, but I think that will become quite difficult.
His invasion fleet though is approaching my coast..

That has the potential of dropping 12 knights on my land.

I don't think that will happen as I can block the landing spots while my galleys move in for the kill.

Average to Akots, strong to Arghis and Matrix.

This might be a diversion though.. he could be heading for my Ivory island.
I'll try to intercept as many galleys as possible.

This minimap shows the current situation.
Matrix has colonized a lot of the islands and also captured a city from Arghis. They are at peace now.
Matrix though threatened to attack Akots if he does not give him a city.. this is a very interesting situation. You can read about that in the open thread.

My golden age is about to end and I have one turn left on Monotheism.
Chivalry is next, but without the GA that will take some time, especially with the gold I have to pay on unit upkeep.
Merging my workers back into the cities is the way to go I think.
