This game got off to a great start.

I met my annoying neighbours, the Celts, and promtly killed a new city of theirs IIRC (wsa a while back).

Well, they came after me like crazy:

but they are incredibly dumb:

needless to say, I took the deal:

grrrrr, I had a great deal selling contacts around, am level in tech except for Maths in Carthage and ahead against the Celts and jack - but I got sneak attacked by Babylon. They lucked out in combat but I held my ground. A serious setback in expansion though.

The Ottomans built the Pyramids already and we're only at turn 47 !

Lt. Killer M

the Ottomans build a LOT of stuff these days :(

I am very tempted to give up: I have yet to win a SINGLE combat in defence where I have a smaller than 50% chance, and I tend to lose almost all defensive figts. On the other hand, I win my fair share of attacks - but not more than that! I haven't won a SINGLE attack with a smaller than 50% chance, while I lose a fair amount of vet-Swordman-attacks-fortified-reg-spear-in-the-open.

Last turn, a Gallic Sword killed my elite Spear on hill in walled town. Then, another Gallic Sword kileld a vet Spear in the same conditions. Counterattacking with an Archer, I not only failed to kill the exposed 3 HP Sword, but also promoted him - noe he is still at 3 HP.

Lt. Killer M

this turn was slightly better: the gallic Sword goes to 1 HP - but instead of retreating he kills my Spear. a Warrior (on hill, walled), defends against an archer - as booth were reg it was a bigger than 50% chance but I still am surprised.

This after the Celts have for the SECOND time broken a 20 turn deal: last time it was an ALLIANCE, this time it was a peace only.

Lt. Killer M

I lucked out big time here: the three combats that I really needed to win I won.

I have my town back, i ot two techs, and jack agreed to trade for one of them...

Lt. Killer M

Decision time! Entremont has the Great Library that I need.

The first time I break a 20 turn peace, but the Celts sneaked me twice!

The Med Inf redlines my sword, buit then has the good manners to die. The stack moves in.....
I lose 1 Sword by counterattack only.

Carthage meanwhile finishes Leos IIRC.

the counterattack failed!

1 sword died in Entremont, but no other attacks agains the city took place. Also, another sword was killed but a Longbowman died attacking a third AND promoted him to elite!!!!

Lt. Killer M
21-05-2003, 11:38
touchy times - killed a few Med Inf, lost a few swords - Entremont is still mine.... but how long?

ERIKK

...cut off his iron to the north...

Lt. Killer M
21-05-2003, 12:11
YES!!!!!

I cut the road connecting Richborough to the rest (I didn#t want to place a hurt Sword on the iron as there might be a unit coming from there, whihc indeed happened) I also killed all units next to Entremont, the Archer from Richborough - Celts are fucked.

Nothing came forth - the are out of healthy troops atm!

Lt. Killer M
21-05-2003, 12:13
OK, if Entre flips I will need to cut the iron properly - but until then the Clets have a HUGE problem......

I left Entre empty, all in all 4 Med Inf are on their way in (roaded nively to Lugu). Also, a vet Pike is on the way.

I start winning more combats - the RNG gives back what it took atm.

Lt. Killer M

a lot of things have happened: Greece got samped out by Rome, The Celts and Babs fought in my lands, then Carthage invaded me. Tough luck....... for them

I allied with jack (giving him iron) and now Carthage gets chewed to pieces...... as both the Celts and Babs are my allies, too.......

jack merchant
27-05-2003, 14:49
Lacking Astronomy, the alliance vs Carthage did have the unfortunate effect of killing my trade routes and destroying my reputation. Now I'll really have to do some warring !

I didn't sign peace, of course.

Lt. Killer M
27-05-2003, 19:35
Hadrametum razed, jack was also on a killing spree, the twelve units that he sent for me eliminated - I know why Hannibal asked for peace. I also declined.

Taking Oea was costly - three Knights died. I will keep it a turn to reduce the road bouns - then we will see..........
here is what is left of Carthage - in the industrial age, but getting a bad make-over by jack and me!

this game moves so fast I find no time to post on it...

Ok, where are we: Carthage got peace from both of us and is irrelevant now. Riflemen will allow them to live for a while though.

I attacked the Celts again, took the Great Library, but missed getting Nationalsim and Mil Trad. :(

Babylon is far far ahead in culture, Rome in power. Jack is looking after Rome now....

We have formulated a plan what to do about babylon, shoudl it come to that.

Lt. Killer M
28-05-2003, 18:56
teh Clets are no more.

and jack has a problem: I stole Steam Power, exchanged it for Mil Trad and got rid of the Clets with Cav.

Now, I am going for jacks hide:

Nice going Killer. This is a sure win!

Killer may have me on the run but twe are at least giving him as good as we've got. He captured Shanghai but I've retaken it, killing 11 cavs in the counterattack. I also signed in the Babs against Killer and they killed 8 of Killer's muskets losing only 4 units, attacking with knights and longbows.

I had to abandon Aydin though before the Otto's took it.

Killer! You took Shanghai instead of razing it! [eek]

Wow, I hope you play like that in my game! :D

he probably needed Shanghai for healing...

anarres
29-05-2003, 18:15
jack's forces were always going to retake it, it should have been raised.

Maybe Killer thought he could heal in it first and then abandon it, but I fail to see the point in that, since the chance of losing it was great.

Lt. Killer M
30-05-2003, 08:38
anarres: it was a screwup, same turn I alos exposed units needlessly, forgetting that Longbowmen have only 1 move...... I was too lazy to ask jack for a replay, esecially as this might create the image that I had had combat to wrong.....

The Chinese government, after the failure of the high casualties incurred in the operation to push back the French at Chengdu (for obscure reasons codenamed Wacht am Rhein) and the capture of its capital saw no option but to surrender. Its president, Jack Merchant, managed to escape and left a note on his desk saying: "I'll be back"
