View Full Version : 16+ PBEM (Matrix/Killer) - Spoiler
This will be the discussion thread of Killer and myself. :) Others may feel free to read and post themselves of course, as long as they're not in the game. [tongue]
Killer, we gotta decide on two things: our name and our civ-choices.
My personal preference is:
1. Celts
2. Iroquois
3. Sumeria
I'm afraid micromanaging would be your task; I practically don't micromanage. Cunningness and diplomacy is my better half. [evil]
Got an idea for names?
How about: title="Killer" and name="Matrix"? Killer Matrix.
Otherwise I wouldn't know. We don't have much in common, like snooker or music... http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif

Those are all agri-civs are'nt they, i think you may only choose 2 agro civs in your list of 5.
EDIT: opps, meant to say 2 agri civs.
Only five out of five? [blink]
I gave the above info to Rik.
Fourth and fifth choices were Egypt and Babylon.
Rik Meleet
23-06-2005, 19:16
The rules are that only the first 2 slots can contain Agri civs. Agri civs in slots 3,4 & 5 are ignored.
I missed that rule.
In that case I'll PM to you:
1. Celts
2. Iroquois
3. Egypt
4. Babylon
5. Japan
I'm still in doubt about the title and name of our leader. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/undecided.gif As well as the name of our civ; it would be more fun if we had something else besides "the Egyptians"... [rolleyes]
I got it! [yeah]
The people: Killers
The country: Matrix
Adjective: Killer
Leader: Ruler Shagrath

[worship]
(Shagrath is the singer of Dimmu Borgir.)

Dimmu Borgir are from Norway (incase any lurkers are wondering)

24-06-2005, 11:48
I hate to be picky, but, it is very hard to tell who's thread is who's for any lurker who has subscribed to all the teams threads. Perhaps you can add a team name to the spoiler title?
EDIT: [goodjob]
So we are Egypt. Too bad Kemal got Sumeria.
I was thinking about city names. The first one should be "Dimmu Borgir", if you ask me. It means "Gates to hell" in old Norwegian. ;)
Unless of course Killer objects.

I am fine with everything, and I'll even try to micromanage [lol]
Sweeet! :D
Don't worry, I'll try to micromanage as well. ;)
Second city will be: Minas Morgul ("City of the Dead")
How will we decide who plays the save? I it goes like "first come, first goes" I will probably be playing every turn, since I have an e-mail notificator, which checks my e-mail every five minutes, and I'm also usually at home and available to play.
I wouldn't really mind, if you'd give me some clear suggestions (advises [mischief]); as long as the decision making is something we do together.

...I think the point of this game was first come, first serve (that's the real translation [:p]), but I guess Killer could play some too, or just you play the save and forward a copy to him to look at and make suggestions for the next save, just throwing ideas out.

The worker will irrigate the wheat where it's standing on next turn, ok?
We have Pottery in 10 turns. :)
Lt. Killer M
10-07-2005, 19:00
pity I didn't see this rearlier - I would have argued hard for roading first - but no matter, we will irrigate, then road....
obviously, I'd prefer a road to wines and cow next :D
The worker is building a road now. After that indeed a road to the wines (through BG)!
Next save will have to be played by you, Killer! I'm in Brussels from wednesday till friday and then straight on to you. ;)

turn 7 is in.
obviously, the warrior goes to the hill south (nothing but forest and boooring forest) and the worker crosses the river to the BG (road, road on to wine). Pottery in 4, warrior in 2 - must think about build order now!

Killer:
Matrix wanted me to step in and update the name of the leader when you got the save. You seem to have the save now, so I assume Matrix doesn't want it to be played yet.
Please hold until I can update it.

well, pressing 'r' and 'arrow down' is the obvious....
science down two notches, gives +1 but pottery still in 3. Also shaves a turn off the warrior compared to a BG pick by governor.
shift prod to river forest as growth still in one and wheat will be picked. I do not trust the gov to pick a river tile.....

Matrix, now we need to decide a few things: do we go left or right with the warrior, or do we go straight down? I am tempted to keep running, but OTOH going in a circle around our capital to know the land would also seem smart.
I'd go east. At least let us find a good spot for our second city; then we can explore further and "find more friends".
Lt. Killer M
31-07-2005, 10:43
well, so far I see our second city NW, so we can share the cow. Maybe even take the gold hill for it :) Then #3 goes SE on the river....
Yea, you're right.
I moved the warrior south. :) But it didn't find anything spectaculair.
We're at 30% tax/60% sci/10% lux with Pottery due in two turns.
Warrior due south again. Now we see marsh in the south.
Dimmu Borgir built a warrior and lux is back to 0%. If DB would continue on the forest the settler would be done in 8 turns and DB would grow in 9. So we'll use the just roaded grassland.
The worker has moved to the wine.
Lt. Killer M
03-08-2005, 13:23
yes, I wanted to use the forest just for one turn, IIRC, not permanently.
Things will change once we have the wine and cow in range.
Second city thoughts: I really favor that gold hill! It gives commerce, access to cow and wines (so we can share these two around) and is on the river. Also, it is close to DB - by roading the cow, forest N of river and the tile between the new town and DB we can shuffle troops both ways in 1 turn each.
Should we go for a granary via a chop NOW? I think so..... we can chop and mine both plain-forests for no prod loss (depending on what kind of game we expect; I'd favor two 4-turn worker factories, if I can work the MMing of the tiles out).
I agree on the second city. :)
I prefer having a second city before building a granary, so that we use the gold on the hill sooner and have another production going. But then again, you probably know it better than I do. http://www.straland.com/images/smilies/modest.gif Your call.
Oh, and where do we go to with the southern warrior?
Lt. Killer M
03-08-2005, 13:50
lemme do *some* thinking on teh granary/settler thingy. We CAN after all chop ;) which speeds the granary up a lot.
southern warrior - I'd say we keep pushing south!
Lt. Killer M
03-08-2005, 14:32
you were correct, I was wrong: we get settler No2 at the same turn, but save about 4 turns on writing if we settle first. I underestimated the gold.
Sadly, the sharing of cow/wine will be minimal though - our capital will need them almost all the time
Lt. Killer M
04-08-2005, 13:13
turn is in again. Weird, I *now*, today, get the turn Matrix played YESTERDAY!
Oi, that's not good. [sad] I hope it's not consistent.
Lt. Killer M
04-08-2005, 13:24
semms so - last turn I also thought it was new, as it JUST arrived, when you had already played.
Another turn came in and I played.
We have Pottery! Next thing to be researched I thought best: The Wheel.
I sent the savegame to Rik Meleet and asked him if he could do the necessary changes with the Civ3MultiTool: changing "Matrix" into "Shagrath" and "Egypt" into "Matrix". He'll then send with the turn tracker if all is well. :)
Rik Meleet
06-08-2005, 23:11
Done.
Except "Egypt" is not in the game. It was renamed orginally to "killers".
Lt. Killer M
07-08-2005, 10:40
hm, wheel - I garee this may be a good choice. But we should have discussed it, before playing.
I agree we should have discussed it, but then not when the turn is in, but the turn before. After all, the idea of this game is that it progresses fast, because there are more people available for play.
Next time one of us plays he should say what next needs to be discussed for the next turn. :)
Lt. Killer M
07-08-2005, 22:21
exactly my thinking ;) - and I am to blame here - I SHOULD have listen it with the other things I brought up :(
Woh, I should've asked what to researched next, since I knew Pottery was due.
Anyway, no harm done, so no problem.
Lt. Killer M
08-08-2005, 11:19
well, turn 11 is in - I expect that's the turn you already played?
It seems the turn tracker sends with a delay to me :(
Yes, I have. I played it Saturday even!
You know, I do have an advantage as the Turn Tracker is on straland.com and therefore sends the e-mail to itself. But 36 hours is a long delay. Perhaps you should think of using another e-mail address...
Lt. Killer M
08-08-2005, 13:10

it arrived very late on Sat evening.

I am now very certain that I want to settle the gold hil,, btw - it is coastal and has a fish to boot! We can share cow and wines to and fro as we need, too.
Asdie fromm that - why are we not using the cow?????? I'd say worker goes north 1 tile, chops forest and road, then goes to irrigate the cow.
I'm not at home. Could you play it?
I don't know why we're not using the cow. Your worker plan sounds ok.
Lt. Killer M
12-08-2005, 13:05
will do
Lt. Killer M
18-08-2005, 10:14
aargh, again I accidently opened the Stuttgart spoiler... but no worries, I never read anything important ....
turn is in, I would like ot scout out that ivory/fish island :) (warrior east to the coast)
also, irrigate to the wines is too slow IMO. thus worker goes north to cut that forest and speed our settler.

I played it and moved along the coast. Another fish. [rolleyes]
I changed production to granary and set the worker to chop. Next turn Dimmu Borgir will grow, but with the warrior there lux can stay at 0%.

20-08-2005, 14:53
hehe, yes, that's fitting!
btw, why granary? we agreed on settler first, aided by the chop, IIRC, then more chopping for the granary!
Yes, we did. I believe the granary will be done quite quickly, but I'll have to check why exactly I did it. In any case, it can be changed next turn as the settler won't be done until the turn after the next. :)
Lt. Killer M
22-08-2005, 10:22
well, I made a trial file and playtested it - we are better off in research and get the third settler at roughly the same time IIRC if we build a settler now.
Then we build a settler now.
I'm sorry, I should to the made agreements.

Who has the save?
Nous l'avons. I was away this weekend, but will play now.
The worker is done chopping. What should it do now? I can provide a screenshot from here (at my parents).
Dimmu Borgir will grow in six turns and then the granary is done too.
And the warrior keeps seeing fishes. [rolleyes]

03-09-2005, 13:25
You are the first to complain there are too many fish on a map... It is Darkness' fishtank you are seeing currently. ;)
I don't complain. As long as it becomes ours. :D
But what do you mean with Darkness' fishtank? Was it an idea of him you copied?
Rik Meleet
03-09-2005, 18:18
No, I didn't copy an idea from Darkness. I was referring to this thread: (no spoiler, so save to look at) http://www.civ3duelzone.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2457

Matix, have you played 17a yet? I am back and can play....
looking at it atm: I'd switch the town to faster growth, as we'd have to delay growth to the the granary first - not good. Thus, use the BG on river for growth in 4, granary in 6, +1 science --> wheel in 7 instead of 8.
Road in place, then walk on to cow, road and irrigate.
I'd also keep walking around the water - I want to know if we can get to the ivory w/o boats!
Roger.
But I've played 17 already.....
Lt. Killer M
13-09-2005, 10:11

they want to know what to research, so we do not do duplicate work (wheel).
