I have been noticing quite sudden changes in dr. A's ranking. from 4000'ish to 32.000 ish and back.
Very curious what's happening. Care to explain this secret????

Noticed that as well. Weird.
thats easy.. he trains all his attack soldiers to spy/sentry.
This way he drops in ranking and becomes less of a target.
the next day the new recruits can be trained to attack soldiers if needed.
Well, that doesnt really explain a 30k drop in places for me. I've been around the 7,5K mark with a small attack force and only 50 BPM. On top of that my DA was neglectable. Dr. A must have around 30/35K covert operatives and those should keep him pretty high ranked I'd say.
With a strike action rank of 128,000 it's pretty easy to get to rank 30,000 averaged over 4 ranks. ;)

when I've used up all my attack turns I train down the attack men (and all untrained men) to sentry and my SA goes to 0, ~ ranking #128,000
this sends my overall rank into the 32,000's
Its a good tactic because more often than not it seems I get to keep my money when I'm away :D
If I stay at a high rank then I will usually lose my gold when there is over 4mil in the treasury.
you need a high sentry to make it work, very few people looking at >30k rank targets have enough spy to see my gold. I do get probed now and again (x1 attacks) but my DA is enough to hold off the 30k-ers. Conviniently, although though I accumalate untrained men overnight the ranking calculation isnt updated until you spend in the armoury/training screens or are attacked.
This morning I had accrued >10 mil in my treasury [coool] Useful indeed!

heh, not true - but I have been at anarres house recently and he's watched me watering the orcs. Hopefully he will be joining the Maurauders for the next age [charge]
nb- the problem with watering someone else's orcs is having multiple ip's accessing the account daily.
At our ranks I suspect the admins dont care much anyway, but at the higher ranks (top 100? - definitely, top 1000? - maybe) the admins actively monitor ips/accounts for naughtiness.

Bull. I check from two accounts daily, at home and at work. What would arouse suspicion is logins from different IP's within several minutes. There's no such check, see the "jerry account".

well like I said they don't monitor people at our ranks (or jerry's) judging by the many seemingly multiple accounts.
They definitely do monitor some accounts though, you can find a bunch of posts re: accounts being banned for cheating in the KoC forum. Mainly high rankers too I think.
Often they admit to banking their officers money, which is probably true a lot of the time - but is also what they would say when they are using multiple accounts too I guess.
But maybe the admins only watch for ip's accessing more than one account anyway, that would make more sense in fact.

Couldn't you also assign your attack soldier to defense and back for free? Or does this keep your ranking higher? I assume all new recruits become attackers the way you're doing it. I would think I'd need to improve my sentry rating before I do this.

Its a good tactic, but I have not used it yet.
I have been attacked only once in the last 2 weeks, and that was out of retaliation.

What I do is if I am going to use my attack turns is wait for enough untrained men to accumulate then train them to attack men. I train the rest to sentry to give me a smaller army (reduces risk of casaulties as well as give more targets). Most new recruits just get trained straight to spy/sentry though.
It's not a free deal though, untraining attack/defence men is free - but you cant switch from attack to defense (or vice versa) without retraining them, 2000 gold per man. The 3-400,000 is well worth it if I keep my gold overnight, but I save up turns to use all at once for efficiency ;)
It also occurs to me that the next time I want to do a big upgrade (cheapest is now 20mil... [:O]) I will make sure my rank is as low as possible as well as doing it in rank update, perfect!!
As far as using the tactic with lower stats, I wouldnt be surprised if it was still effective. It's all relative, if you decrease your SA to 0 then you will drop lower than 32k in rank overall, whether its worth it or not depends on the spy rating of hunters searching where you drop to (compared to your sentry) and how much you save that was getting robbed (compared to how many attack men you have to retrain when you attack).
If your getting robbed for a decent amount often then I'd try it for a while and see if you hold your gold better.

But in fact I am probably done with building DA for the moment, so maybe you will... but only for the time-being, mwuhahahahahaha!! ;)
It's only happened when I'm not able to look at it over the weekend. 1.5 mill this past weekend. However, when I get to this in the morning my gold is now running close to 2 mill. I would attack me if I saw that. I think I'm going to start using that strategy. Training down would cost maybe 3 hours of gold. Well worth it.

Currently I have 105 BPM's and 65 wargs (which in turn equal something like 15 bpm's). If for the meagre sum of retraining 120 or so soldiers spare me a single steal it's already worth it.

No attacks, hurray. Anyway, I should click more since all I got now are the 160 fresh recruits.
I did not train my attack soldiers to spy/sentry, but did not get attacked last night.
So I had 2,2M this morning... trained my new recruits to spy/sentry, whacked a guy with 3,5M in store and bought 5 BPM.
Now I can beat drAli's defense ;)

It seems to work pretty well. Some moments ago I had 3M in cash (since last night), but I didn't get attacked or even reconned!
Doesnt really work for me as my overnight orc growth end me up right back around 7k lvl.
Did the 100M upgrade to 640 orc/day this afternoon, so that kinda makes this tactic less usefull.

I usually gain around 6-800 men overnight, but it dosent shoot me up the ranks.
Your overall rank should only get recalculated when you are either attacked or when you spend money in the armoury/training screens, otherwise you can have the untrained men adn it dosent affect your rank.

I read it somewhere. I think it was something like aug-oct...
I dropped in ranking too - like all of you guys...
But it was because I sold near all my BPM's and IS's for a DrawBridge fortification and BlackPowder siege tech. ;)
Also, I gor robbed last night for 2.1 mil. (Forgot to spend my money yesterday. That was after I sold the IS's...)

new age is due sometime in mid-to-late july. but its whenever the admins decide.
the ranking server is broken (although only for some maybe?). I am stuck on 12k rank whatever my SA is for the moment.
I spent some turns this morning and did a little attack rush :D

Bought myself a Drawbridge when I got enough then spent the rest on weapons. Next time I save a few I'll do the UP+320, then probly Black Powder, then its the real pricey stuff.
TBG pretty much all goes to training down + hooks/dogs.
